I'm sitting in front of carbon right now, but holy **** Hack'd by Geaks looks awesome!

So some Alps keyboards have defective space bars too?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Haha, well thank you.  :)  I suppose it could always be more "potato", but this was very rushed, had poor lighting, no tripod, and high ISO.  And the editing was meh.  Hence the critical comment on my part.  But ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ oh well, you're always your worst critic, right?  :P

I was totally overwhelmed by Alps as well.  The only way I managed to do it was to just dive in and build a board.  I mean, this isn't really my first Alps board (AEKII), but it's the first that I got to pick everything - except I didn't, hehe :P  Because I just picked from a list of options from Blue's group buy and went from there.  :D

So some Alps keyboards have defective space bars too?

I have far more money invested in photography gear than I do in keyboards and I'm pretty sure I've only posted iPhone pics, so I have no room to criticize.  :))

I think that's what I'm going to have to do if I decide the urge to try one can't be avoided. For now I'm just going to keep my distance and pretend they don't exist.

I have been depending on natural lighting for most of my photos.

Looking good! Those lambda caps look like they were made for the Hack'd set  :).

A speedlite makes indoor lighting about 100x easier. I just set mine on TTL mode and point it at the ceiling to bounce the flash. I dunno how I ever got by without one.

Your photos are one of the best, so don't sweat it. I don't think anyone can beat your recent keyboard collection photo. That was an awesome shot.

Yup, those lambda keys were definitely a perfect match for Hack'd. The orange color code for both are the same.
Also I have done what you have mentioned and I still find the lighting to be harsh. I guess it's due to my small room and low ceiling...

Hmmm.... I'm not really sure what to recommend as I've never had that problem with mine. Maybe try sticking a coffee filter over the end of the flash to diffuse it even more? That's the best idea I've got.  :(

Especially love those Green photos, dood.

Really like the dim neutral lighting ~ really brings out the texture.

Me toooooo.  Not enough green customs around here; I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  And apparently DCS feels pretty good on Zealios, so that's a plus too.  xD

Thanks Vesper!  :)

And in case anyone is curious (mentioning because I think it's funny how our sense of time is skewed in this hobby), this build has been in the works for technically 3 years.  :))  I purchased the CCnG caps and green USB cable in spring of 2013 with the intent of building *something* green, then settled on the GON HHKB in summer 2014 (so realistically the "build" portion started then), received the board a few months later, and only now got around to building it.  -_-

Hoff, your alps build better be HHKB layout!

It's a regular ANSI WKL layout.  :-[  I can't remember if I chose that for cap compatibility or to keep it simple for my first Alps build.  Part of me wishes I chose HHKB, but ah well.  :D

Great shot, photek.  :thumb:  Is puush better than imgur with respect to compression?  Any reason you uploaded there vs flickr as well?

I was totally overwhelmed by Alps as well.  The only way I managed to do it was to just dive in and build a board.  I mean, this isn't really my first Alps board (AEKII), but it's the first that I got to pick everything - except I didn't, hehe :P  Because I just picked from a list of options from Blue's group buy and went from there.  :D

mfw I bring all the Alps to Keycon to show Hoff then he forgets what I showed him :(

Is there a thread that guides newbies and gives tips on how to take good images of keyboards?

This is what happens when you bring twenty Alps board to show me.  Yes.  Yes it is.  It's called being overwhelmed, CPT, as I said before.  >:D

Thanks though  <3

We've had a couple threads that I can think of (one for post-processing in particular that I recall), but I can't remember the titles well enough to effectively search for them.  I keep finding this thread in my attempts.  :))  I'll link you if I find them.
