This is the GB for the KIRA EXS by thesiscamper, group buy will be done via monokei.us

Yeap as thesiscamper mentioned, it can be any of the colours available. As of now if you want the aluminium one just put it down as an additional part, if you do get into the buy during the order check process I can switch this out probably.

In high end customs it's pretty common to get an extra PCB and plate so you can have two completely different configurations that are easily changeable when the board uses a top mount (plate screwed to the top part of the case rather than to the bottom) design.
In my opinion, plate material variation is meant to provide a choice of feeling beyond what you choose for switches.
- Polycarbonate is a durable, flexible plastic, feels sorta soft but similar to aluminum.
- Aluminum is a flexible, durable metal. Most common of plate materials.
- Brass is strong, rigid, and in my opinion provides the best sound. It retains some of the thock of aluminum albeit with a slightly more muted sound. When I say muted, I mean in the sense that a musical instrument can be muted; you still hear the instrument but with a slightly different sound profile. Brass is by far my favorite plate material.

You should be able to have them changed/confirmed later, as long as the order hasn't been submitted to the factory. Further changes after this will get confusing for everyone, especially the factory.
Sorry if I missed it somewhere but what firmware does the PCB run?
The prototypes are running ps2avrgb, but the PCB designer is currently trying QMK out. If it doesn't work out, we go back to ps2avr.

Been following thesiscamper's work since the first mention of Kira 96, stayed out of many other 96 key GBs to wait for Kira, then watched thesiscamper introduce other Kira concepts like EX S with a little more space between num/arrow keys and fell in love with the concept, waiting to hop into a GB. Seems like I didn't make the cut :(, but congrats to those who did. Enjoy guys.

I had that question too. It's full silver. I think I'm going dark grey top/silver bottom. I can't really decide on the bottom honestly. Maybe Dark Grey/Black. That dark grey looks exactly what I was hoping for.

Dang. That kind of makes me wonder about the dark grey and silver again then. Is there a color code or anything? Glad I didn't submit my order yet. How dark do you think it will be? If its going to be lighter i'm going black for the bottom. If its darker i'm going silver. If it looks like the silver prototype where the top is slightly darker I'd do the black bottom.

I know it's going to change before I get it but I was thinking 67g zeals and either carbon or honeywell keycaps. Im curious abput those kalih box violets that are coming out soon.
I ended up just adding a second plate to my order since I already got the pcb and it's relatively cheap. So I guess I need switches for 2 boards.

So the manu got back to us with a defect, pics first.

An explanation:
These burns were spotted while anodizing, and according to the manufacturer it is a consequence of a slightly thinner bottom part than expected. All these marks will not be visible once the brass weight is dropped in, and all other parts are in tip top condition.
We're sorry about this defect but given the small amount of units and the complexity of reworking (which may cause more problems to other parts) we've decided to proceed, once again I would like to reiterate that these are not visible once you've assembled, and all other surfaces are pretty much good to go.
We're also looking to receive the PCBs within the next 2 weeks, no ETA on the kits yet. I will post more updates once I receive them.

I've received and tested all the PCBs, I have 13 that are faulty but I've contacted a local guy who will fix them (some SMD leds not firing) so we should be good to go soon on that front.
I've just paid for shipping for the boards from China to Singapore, once I receive/QC them you will receive your shipping invoices within the next 2 weeks.

flawless, little dusty but easy to clean up. Test everything so far and they all work. Will build mine w/o the diffuser since it's flimsy :thumb:

The back LED on the PCBs has a different color.
And the Stepped CapsLock LED does not turn on. Both PCBs are the same.
And there are other small problems.

Edit: after doing a thorough inspection on the rest of the parts, I found some small defects on the aluminum plate (nothing big, a wavy looking cut and a small chip on one of the holes). There were also some small pits in the anodization but those are only visible on the inside.
Also, there were another set of screws included in the bag, some of the included screws for the main body were different lengths. Am I supposed to use the screws in the bag that are identical?

Try changing the LED colours using bootmapper, and yes the screws included in the bag are recommended.

I tried different colors but there were still 3 LEDs that were different from the rest.
I have seen this happen before when there isn't enough juice getting to the SMDs. See if maybe a pad is loose or something?

I spent 2 days testing all these functions on all the PCBs and it worked on mine. Please check if you're using a USB hub or not, if you are please connect it directly to the computer.

Got mine yesterday morning and put it together. This is my first custom board and its awesome, I love the weight and typing on it is so excellent! Forgive me if this is a stupid question but how can I customize the keys, can I use QMK? What layout should I pick from the dropdown? TIA!
It's ps2avrgb, so you'll have to use bootmapper client. There are people working on qmk compatibility I think, buy I'm not very familiar with the project.

Yep current plan is for Type C, and I have reached an agreement with a vendor to handle the PCB design and a new board that uses it. Also note that a new Type C connector will look weird in the cutout, since the cutout isn't that pretty to begin with.

Yes since this time I'm working more closely with the PCB designer. I wasn't talking directly with the original PCB designer so there were gaps in communication.

I don't think it will be called EXS R2 (I think it will be called Yark), but the PCB will be compatible with EXS R1.
