It's a really good idea. I only found out car makers were doing cooled seats a couple of months ago when I was looking at the new Jaguar. It's a really good idea, especially in hot places (der).

Any ideas how they work?
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Depends on the system.  Most I've seen basically duct air from the air con into a diffuser in a seat with perforated leather.

Ah, ok. I guess it's a lot easier to cool that way rather than actually pumping coolant  through the pipes like a fridge, seeing as I'm pretty sure you can't get thin pads that cool when you run electricity through them like heated ones do.

Since there is no VENT to watch, might as well make a proper car thread post haha.

Ist - 1989 Chevy S-10, color rust and gray, 5spd 4 cylinder, no pics

2nd - 1987 Honda Accord 5spd

Show Image

3rd - 1990 Acura Integra (with 199k miles lol) 5spd 1.8l, it came with those wheels, I loved them at the time.

Show Image

4th - 1992 Acura Integra GSR 1.7L Vtec  - Rare car, I loved it, regretted selling it for years.

Show Image

5th - 1996 Honda Accord V6 - No pics, soulless car. Kind of a bad time in my life as it was.

6th - 2003 GMC Sierra 5.8L
, purchased new and drove to AK where I drove it for three years. Rock solid the whole time, as long as I plugged it in at night.

Show Image

7th - 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX TR
- Purchased new in AK drove back to the states. Plethora of mods and a pro-tune. Should have just kept this.

Show Image

Show Image

8th  - 2006 Subaru Impreza STI (same color as WRX) purchased used with 27k miles, moved most of the parts from the WRX to the STI, then added more. I'm a ****ing idiot for selling this car.

Show Image

9th - 1995 Acura Integra 4door GSR - Purchased with 145k miles, bought as a daily, should have just daily driven the STI instead of this. Sold after a year and a half, just too old and tinny feeling.

Show Image

10th - 2005 Saab 9-2x Linear 5spd (Saabaru). Purchased with 40k. Put 30k on this then sold it. OK car, slow but solid.

Show Image

Show Image

11th - 2008 Acura TL-S 6spd. Purchased with 23k. Had for a year and a half and sold. I'll never buy another bigger car again, this thing was just too big and too heavy, understeered anytime I wanted to have fun. Transmission was very jerky. Great to look at though.

Show Image

12th - 2014 Mitsubishi Evolution GSR 5spd - Purchased new Feb 2014 (yes it has 2008 tails, I prefer the red over the black). Love this car, very solid feeling and very capable. Loud over 75mph on the highway though. Doing full suspension, Ohlin coilovers this spring. Has sways, swift springs, plus some other goodies. Keeping engine stock for now, honestly it feels fast enough for me. Just got a new trunk recently, haven't done a proper shoot with it.

13th - Hopefully a Tesla Model 3?   Something electric and powerful for sure, .

You had a 2006 STI with that low of miles!!!? Oh man.. That's my dream car. Someone a block from me has a white one and I seriously drool everytime. Awesome photos. Nice WRX too!

Family had an OG one they resold to a collector, now they are more expensive than working car and you have to restore them.

In term of old school french car , original DS would be my dream:

no clue how expensive they are currently though

This is seriously car of the year for me, maybe even my all-time favorite car build ever: http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/02/perfecting-perfection-advance-honda-nsx/

The NSX is one of the greatest sports cars ever made. Though I think I would prefer a road legal one lool

The STI had more miles when I sold it.
I love trying new cars. If you didn't have to pay sales taxes on used cars in my stupid state Id get a different used car every year or so just to try different platforms.

Thanks :) The other style I'm looking at are a basketweave (optional on later years of the same car) and indeed cleaning...is not so great on these types of wheels. I love the look of the turbines but I think if I selectively paint sections of the other set they might just look better.

This is where the turbines are living right now:

Honest question: why is this car cool?  Is it because it's classy and sophisticated?  It's a stark contrast to the zippy race cars everyone else is posting, so I'm just curious.  I'm sure it's a great car, I'm just not sure why.  :P  Educate me please!

It's fun to drive cars at their limit.
The lower the limit, the easier it is to do so.
You could drive that car to its limits all over the place if you wanted and probably not go to jail.
That and it can haul most anything you want, and don't have to worry about people screwing with it when you park it somewhere crowded. It's probably hugely liberating and oddly fun to drive. It also looks to be in great shape especially considering the age and location. Most new cars feel souless, I bet that doesn't at all.

Psybin definitely got a few points right.

Performance and handling are overrated (and subjective). Let's not talk about efficiency, though.

These cars have an attitude. Some people don't read it right and think they're going to get around me off the line at a traffic light...but thanks to a moderate rear axle (final drive) ratio that's actually pretty rare. It's not a fast car, but it's impressive off the line.

My cars turn heads, whether they're 16 or 86, and I've had compliments from people driving all sorts of cars in all age groups. There's just a sort of presence that other cars don't have (soul?). Then, satisfying my compulsive need to take things apart, they're simple to work on and parts are cheap.

And before someone calls me out for being an old man...I'm 25. The black one is 11 months younger than me.

One of my funnest road trips was from the coast of the Carolinas to Nashville, TN and back in a 91 crown victoria police interceptor.  As stated before, it wasnt crazy fast, but it's a boat and will get on down the highway and help up pretty good in the mountains.

I think it's cool because you don't get anything like it on the UK roads. It's like a completely different class of car that you can't get here. Saloon cars are one thing, but these are just something else.

Ideally I want black, but these are silver ones that are under £100 right now...

I offered the guy £120 to take the auction down, but he said he had been offered £200 and wanted a deposit first. I don't trust him seeing as he has zero feedback, so I said I wasn't comfortable. Hopefully they don't go over £150 and I can grab them. I will just have no tires for them or my other ones hah!

I have been getting into detailing recently. However I haven't cleaned my car in weeks because I've been waiting to get some buckets in. Hopefully they come in today so I can clean my car.

Should have the keys to this baby at the end of next week. (Japanese paperwork takes a long time to do.....)

So i'm kind of friends with the guy at the deal and this was his friends old car that he traded in so he could get a Silvia, he told me that it was taken good care of and had the oil changed every 3k km since he had a good hookup with the dealer (the manager definitely knew him too) The clutch was changed in the last 20k and i think the T-belt too but i'm going to have to confirm that.

As far as i saw, it has:
-Twin turbo, yum
-Power windows, locks, folding mirrors, seats
-Coilovers
-Blitz BOV
-some branded aluminum piping
-elecronic boost controller
-turbo timer
-carbon fiber wing (meh, might take it off)
-some kind of after market sway bars.
-front strut bar
-Alpine headunit
-STI gauge cluster
-STI pedals
-Short throw shifter w/ some aftermarket knob that i'm not fond of.
-HID headlights (with a proper cutoff)

I hope i find more goodies once i actually get it, they're also letting me check it out on the lift when i go to pick it up next week since i asked if i could.

I hear that donuts and burnouts are impossible to do, could you please test this theory?

What do you do for work?
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Well...the current slicks on the wheels are dead so there would be no harm in fully sending them off...However I am not sure we could while the other people are about.

We should be taking it out testing at Donington Park Tuesday if wall goes well. It needs a little bit of TLC, some new rose joints here and there, droplinks and a couple of other bits, but in all its a solid bit of kit!

I work for a company called Britcar, we run multiple endurance race championships in the UK and are the people behind the 24hr race at Silverstone. This car is for our fun and as a test vehicle as my boss is planning on running an all V8 championship next season.

That seems like a really really cool job, how did you get into it?
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I went to uni, studied motorsport engineering, ended up doing a work placement at Britcar then ended up doing 3 full seasons with them helping out at the events. Finished my uni course and got employed by them, "event management" isn't exactly what I wanted to end up doing. However it is in the right industry and now it looks like I am finally getting to play with race cars

That sounds really awesome. I was offered a job at a motorsports charity but they wanted me to do like a year of training first, which I really couldn't afford to do. I really regret not doing it now. It would have been awesome.

So, geeky hackers of cars, what's the most invasive "surgery" you've performed so far?

Prepare yourself for the highest quality workmanship you're about to see.

so i've actually done a lot to that car but one of the first things was new lowering springs and struts which i painted up a bit. turned out that you couldn't see any of it once installed anyways so......yeah.

Not long after that i did an engine swap from a NA 1.6 to a Turbo'd 1.8 running 10psi.
This is how i test drove it before hooking everything up.

And this is how i had it "temporarily" setup till i bought/installed an FMIC......it stayed like this for the next 2-3 years till i sold the car. XD

Replacing the bearings in my brother's Golf's gearbox. Insides of gearboxes are not meant to see the light of day all that often and they make sure of it by making it pretty hard to do.

Or helping a friend fit their twin carb engine from an Austin Apache (South Africa only model) to a Mini bodyshell.

Or maybe porting / flowing my Mini's head with a drill and some grinding bits (took a while)?

I still want to make the mounts and manifolds to fit an Arnott supercharger (designed as a charge filler for 4liter Jaguar engines) that I have laying around. ;) Should bring the power up to around 150bhp or more. Quite fun in a car that weighs less than 600kg and looks so.... innocent.

I have got my hands deeper into the oily bits on my motorbikes (replacing pistons and rings, crank bearings, etc), so I have no fear of doing the same on a "mobile cage" engine.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Full pack lift on a Challenger 2 :D

Or a fuel bag replacement on a Scimitar. Doesn't really count though :P

Used to build 1200+BHP Nissan Skylines for drag racing in the HKS Street legal series.

Helped on another places 1600bhp Supra for the same series.

Bits and bobs to all of my own vehicles, going to have to do the gearbox on my zed shortly...not a job I am looking forward to
