Hey geekhack
this is Polar Nights. The set was inspired by the Iceberg vim theme (https://github.com/cocopon/iceberg.vim).

Design
This set is probably going to be ran through infinikey, as they are the only manufacturer that I know that can do reverse dye sub with dark legends.

Main kit
The base kit covers most popular layouts (60%, HHKB, 75%, 65%, TKL).

Kit design
Kits will be added based on IC form responses.

This seems like a small base kit for Infinikey, considering how big previous sets have been.

Considering these were barely over $100 (katakana was $95, sanctuary was $120), is there any reason to limit compatibility?

This is really pretty. I’m usually not into darker sets, but I might have to go for this one

+1 for bigger "all in one kit". If not, please add  a icon+text mod kit and add a "b" to the spacebar kit

I literally wouldn't tell this, GMK Nord and GMK Firefly apart. All of them look nice-ish though, just not for me.

I dislike making huge main kits like those. Most people won't use half the kit, so why should they pay for it? I'd much rather have a base kit and 2 other kits than a huge base kit.

treading into violet tendencies territory with the lack of contrast on the alpha legend color/alpha key color

From what I've gathered, the reason that Infinikey kits are structured this way is due to an extraordinarily large MOQ, which makes child kits infeasible. (Child kits apparently have a MOQ of 300 minimum)

If you want a kit structure like this, you should consider other manufacturers.

I mean you are comparing 2 color sets to a 5 color set. That's doing to drive price pretty quickly.

This is true, but when child kits for Infinikey have a MOQ of 300, is that really a viable alternative?

Not sure how to feel about the super low contrast. But Iceberg is a nice color scheme, so good luck.

I'll reach out to my infinikey contact about it.

Not digging the low contrast alphas
or the mods
pretty much the whole set, especially with other sets that look the same being in IC right now

I really like the colors in this set, more colorful pbt sets is always gonna get my interest  :thumb:

One suggestion I might have is, instead of using black text on the majority of keys, why not make those keys blanks instead? Those keys are very tough to read anyway, so the final product would still look pretty similar to what you have now.

Other benefits to doing that would be:

1. Lower costs (I'd assume)
2. Mostly solve the compatibility issue that others have mentioned (though I'd still add numpad keys at the very least)

Just a suggestion! I'll be keeping an eye on this set as it progresses  :D

from what I've seen, the aurora borealis has some very washed out pinkish tones and the set kind of resembles an aurora with saturation and contrast turned up. That's where the name came from.

It looks fine. It's missing the green that is in the theme, that would make it pop more.

No Numpad? No thank you. Design looks good. Low contrast is fine since the theme is nights after all.

Much as I like those two Vim/iTerm themes I also like your Nord design and this. However, having had a black HHKB I found low contrast alpha’s are only really great in pictures!

I’m looking to buy a keycap set, especially one sympathetic to Vim but at present this would come third to Nord, then Doubleshot. I might put it before Doubleshot if there were more legible alphas
