Laser cut keycaps in wood and acrylic!
« on: Sat, 24 September 2016, 12:43:35 »
So my girlfried came up with the idea of cutting out keycaps using a lasercutter. I tried it out today, and wanted to share the results so far!
This is definitely something I'd like to follow up on, although I haven't got much time during the next couple of months.

How do you ensure the stems are centered?
Quoting me causes a posting error that you need to ignore.

As of right now, I simply ain't. This was just a couple quick prototypes to see if it could be done. Now that I know it works, I might add a couple details to the sketches to raster some guidelines.

Do you have instructions? I can't tell from your pictures what you did. Is the stem glued to the flat top, or is there a notch in the top of the cap?

Oh, holy crap.. I haven't been on here in ages, I'm so sorry.

If it is still relevant: I simple cut a small piece of wood 4mm thick, 3mm wide, 4mm long (I think it was), with the cross for mx stems in the middle. I then glued that to a piece of acrylic that was cut in the approximate shape of a "normal" keycap.
