Don't know if your intentions were this but as a heads up if you are making people tweet this it will only be visible for you and gain no social traction.

If you start a tweet with an @USER only that user or people tracking that users notifications will see the tweet.

You are better off making the users whom you want to enter the giveaway do one of the following things;
A. Retweet a tweet you send out (favourite it optional for you to tag on as a requirement)
Gives you chance to word it how you want and any users that retweet it will make all their followers see the tweet thus gaining you traction.
B. Make entrants tweet out a specific sentence mentioning any accounts needed (hashtag optional for you to tag on as a requirement)
Risks in users miss copy pasting but still will go out to all their followers and gain traction.

Lastly you could still do what you are currently doing but make the users start their tweet with a fullstop, those tweets that are going out by the people entering will still show up to you but also to all their followers.

For the Twitter unaware: The first word in your Tweet determines which of your followers a tweet is visible to. In most cases, anyone who follows you will see your tweet on their feed right away. BUT, if  your tweet starts with another user's Twitter username (for example: @ctrlaltio), then only people who follow both you and the user you tweeted at will see the message in their feed. For example:

"This is a tweet".

If I send this and you follow me, you'll see this on your Twitter homepage right now.

"@ctrlaltio. This is a tweet"

If I send this and you follow me, but you do not follow @ctrlaltio, then you will not see this tweet on your Twitter homepage as it's, essentially, considered a more focused or, almost, private conversation. If you follow @ctrlaltio and me, you will see it though.

So, to get around this, the first word/character in your tweet just needs to not be a user's username. The convention there is to make that first character simply a dot. So this:

".@ctrlaltio. This is a tweet"

Will be seen by all of my followers on their Twitter homepage right away, regardless of whether or not they follow @ctrlaltio. This is called dot-mentioning. It's the best way to direct a comment at someone, but also make it publicly available. It's quite useful in marketing. Consider: "@lays, your chips are great!" Almost no one follows the @lays brand. No one is going to see this. ".@lays, your chips are great!" Now people following the Tweeter will see the tweet and you have effectively marketed/promoted on Twitter.

Looks like there are some new folks to Twitter here, so I thought I'd share some rather commonly used tactics for marketing and promotion. Maybe even Bunz found it useful !

Well it's pretty true, do you disagree? In my experience, LinkedIn leads to recruiters, who have jobs you don't want that always come with ridiculous constraints. Twitter builds real connections and proves you're a good developer. Then, when you need a job, you ask your connections for openings and they get you in, and there's no recruiter BS to deal with. And you get to talk to cool people in the process, and not recruiters.

I don't see how using twitter proves you're a good developer. I know lots of good devs that aren't on twitter.

Just signing up for Twitter certainly doesn't prove you're a good dev. But Twitter is one of the best tools to use to prove you're a good dev. Go to a meetup, get followers, then tweet out your OSS contributions and blog posts. Real developers will read that, and remember you. You do this on LI... only recruiters will read that. No one wants that.

StackOverflow Careers is also amazing. My main point is: Twitter can be much more valuable than LI in getting you a new job if you're a software developer. I haven't gotten a single reasonable offer or conversation out of LI, Twitter is the exact opposite. Everyone on LI wants me to do JSF jobs when I've never written a line of Java (and my profile says so), so that ****'s useless. Everyone on Twitter knows I do Python and PHP, if they have a position they'll reach out to me, or I'll hit them. Basically, the Twitter audience is more developers and the LI audience is more recruiters and business guys. Go after your audience if you want to make a name for yourself. Maybe the UK's different, iunno. Maybe NYC's unique (our dev community is very active).
