If you don't, you should be.  I gave you **** for your non-stepped, off-center stem capslock.  And tsangan and hashbaz are my buddies.  Your enemy's buddy is your enemy.

Stuff can be pretty slow from qtan, it will get there though.

Yeah, I know, I'm just anxious for it to come so I can finally remove all of the keycaps properly, give it a good clean and put my RGBY kit on, faux Esc key and my novelty keys :D

Just got word back from Melissa.  Turns out cycloverid and I are both right, ha!  The Esc key is not 0.018", but it's also probably slightly thicker than 0.015".

Turns out the 's' in the Esc key came out as a blob at 0.018" so they bumped it down, probably to 0.017" or 0.016".  I responded asking her if there's a way to be sure which cutter was actually used.  She also reiterated that at the small gradations of scale we're talking about, the cutting and molding process is not exact enough to map a 0.01X" cutter to a final key line width measuring 0.01X".

Whatever happened to these then.  Melissa's error or ours?
(Attachment Link) 44946 (Attachment Link) 44947

I mean, if the font's line width changes randomly how can we get Signature Plastics Key Round 10 to be perfect?

The Control keys in your picture are from the second round moogle set, which was 0.020".  That is clearly too thick, even given the variability of the cut/mold processes.  So I call that our error, though error isn't really the right word.  We've learned a lot about this process between moogle2 and RGBY.  Hopefully moogle3 will be as good as we can get with SP's process.

FWIW here is a scan of the photocopy I made.  It's pretty clear from this image that the final key's legend is both thicker and larger.

Is it just me or does the "s" look completely different?

Yeah it does.  I bet cycloverid tweaked it when he scaled the SVG larger after the prototype was done.

Talking about the matte finishing – I bet someone wrote about this before – I noticed it changes a lot from key to key. On my set, Esc and right shift seem to be the roughest, while control, alt and super seem to be much smoother. I'm not complaining about this, as it's hardly noticeable until you touch the keys, I just wonder why?

Hmm, I just realized ESC is rough, too. For me, both (ansi) shifts are rougher than the modifiers. are you ISO?

I really like the rougher keys.

I definitely tweaked the final ESC SVG a bit, including possibly scaling the legends up in size (it's all a little hazy to me now).

To me, the thicknesses look basically the same when inverting the black legends:

Um, yeah.  Turns out you were right all along.  Melissa told me today that they ended up going with the 0.015" cutter rather than 0.016" like she thought before.  Annoying that she didn't tell me this earlier.  I think I will ask for the Enter prototype for moogle3 in 0.016".

I'm betting that the closest to cherry will be .016" or .017".

The bummer, though, is that if we go for fatter legends on the new moogle keys, the RGBY Ctrl/Alt/Shift legends will look different. :-|

Yes but if the new keys finally nail cherry thickness they won't have to be redone for moogle 4. The RGBY keys would be the only ones that would have to be redone for moogle 4.

this is a problem that seems like it should be addressed when/if it actually bugs someone

The legend thicknesses have already been bugging people. There are probably a few hundred posts about it...

But in the meantime moogle3 is sullied with inconsistent legends. :(

Yes, ISO left shift is not as rough as the right one. And I also prefere the rougher keys, I think they will take longer to wear out.

My guess is that ISO left shift is the same mold as the 1.25x modifier keys.  The roughness might be varied by row?

Maybe so, but still doesn't make much sense to me. Aren't there several matte options available from SP?
