GLWGB! My only doubt is whether to buy the text novelties kit with the Red Samurai base kit or with the Blue Samurai kit. ;D

Drop also still selling RedSamurai 1 in TKL kit, so those TKL guys prob gonna get their novels too.

Maybe we're past this point, but is there any chance of a 3rd 1u R4 novelty on the red kit, like the blue kit? I'm team red but this won't cover layouts with 3 1u mods like the NK65.

To everybody: My design calls for two 2.25u or two 2.75u convex space bars and I'd like them both to be red. I imagine a lot of people buying the base kit won't wind up using those shorter space bars. Anybody interested in selling me their surplus short space bars? (this is make-or-break for me joining this GB)

The Base kit image in this OP marks these two as convex. I'm not sure why Drop's kit images have no markings, but I can't imagine these markings being wrong. Especially since Drop owns Geekhack.

Drop always has extras, but they won't be till after the GB is over and everything has shipped and most likely until they have one of their RE-cap events. I wouldn't expect that until next year sometime.

I'm realizing I want to thank you for making a set that has Super, Hyper, *and* Fn keys in the base set. In the custom layout I'm building, Super and Hyper are mapped to GUI and Menu, and Fn is activating a QMK layer. I'm really surprised that more designers don't accomodate this use case. It's pretty much standard on laptop keyboards and can be useful on desktop keyboards, too.

Drop's post on their site says the same thing that you do, that Red Samurai is now expected to ship in November. However, I got an email from Drop yesterday that says:
"The new estimated ship date for GMK Red Samurai is February 2021"
Do you have any clarity on this? My guess is that someone at Drop screwed up and sent an email with the Blue Samurai date to people with Red Samurai orders, but I'd like to check that guess with someone in the know.

There have been two GMK Red Samurai group buys. Separately, "semi-production" sets have been on sale since June 2020. The shipping answer depends on whether you bought kits from the second GB, or from the "semi-production" set.

Drop's "semi-production" version of GMK Red Suns has a variety of full-keyboard kits. It was running during the second GB - causing some confusion - and is currently labeled to end October 30. This thread is specifically for the second GB that ran in late June, though. If that's shipping Feb 2021, as you say, then the update that RedSuns made to the initial post is incorrect -- it says "November 2020" but it should say "February 2021", same as for Blue Samurai.

We've recently been informed by our keycap partner, GMK, that the ship dates on all keycap sets have been pushed back due to manufacturing delays that they are experiencing. They've communicated the following estimated ship dates* to us:
GMK White on Black - October 2020
GMK Red Samurai - November 2020
GMK Belafonte - December 2020
GMK Hennessey - December 2020
GMK Godspeed - January 2021
GMK Kaiju - January 2021
GMK Blue Samurai - February 2021
GMK Custom Red Samurai - February 2021
GMK Laser - February 2021
We're obviously very disappointed to hear this news and GMK has assured us that they are doing everything that they can to "catch up" on their schedule. As one of GMK's largest keycap distributors, we have guaranteed manufacturing slots so these delays are less severe for us versus other vendors running group buys. Please note that the above shipping estimates are based on scheduled production capacity, and may be further adjusted based on designer approvals (for example: color matching a specific set could introduce further delays, which would cause the schedule to shift).
GMK will have a community member active in this discussion thread if you have any questions. In the meantime we'll be working on updating all of our users and relevant product runs. We understand this news is disappointing and remind you that as with all of our keycap pre-orders, you can get a refund if you no longer wish to wait.

I know about that post on Drop. It didn't used to list "Red Samurai" and "Custom Red Samurai" separately -- they actually edited it after I asked about the discrepancy between what the post originally said and what an email I got from them said. I understand that that is what Drop is saying. I'm asking RedSuns if he knows differently, since he's saying something different than what Drop is saying -- and if not, I'm asking him to edit his post so that anyone else checking this thread will see correct information about the ETA of the 2nd GB.

Presumably there will then be shipping time before Drop receives them, processing time before Drop ships orders out, and shipping time before they reach customers.

They ARE the Drop ones, in-fact, and it's only for their own boards (Ctrl, Alt, Preonic/Planck etc...). Drop also sells through Amazon.
Which does mean Amazon occasionally have some Drop products in versions the Drop website itself is out of stock.

Quick update on GMK Red & GMK Blue Samurai-- according to our vendor, they’ll be ready to ship to our warehouse around May 10th, which puts us at a ship date around late May to all of you. If anything changes here, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Yeah, production has been moved back to July now. These will be the last sets I purchase from Drop and quite honestly, I am starting to regret having bought into additional GMK GBs as I am starting to believe that this kind of bull**** will continue, regardless of the vendor.

Welp, that was too good to be true. They emailed again today.
We just received a revised production timeline update from GMK and, unfortunately, we’re now expecting to receive and ship to all of you in July. We’re so sorry for the additional delay here.

Since Drop's outreach team has proven to be worthless at communicating the reasons behind the repeated delays, would either RedSuns or GMK Andy be able to speak as to what's going on? I get this isn't quite on GMK Dracula's level or some other GBs that have gone on forever, but it's starting to seem that it's headed that way and it would be nice to get some kind of concrete answer on the continuous delays.
Edit: Nevermind - Kevin w/ Drop made it clear after I posted this that those were waiting's best bet was to cancel their order. I summarily did after reading that.
RedSuns, I dig your stuff and will happily purchase it anywhere else other than Drop, should you decide to go through a different vendor in the future.
