As others have said, wiping with a damp cloth is enough most of the time. For very minor residue I use Windex Multisurface, which contains a dilute lactic acid that removes food residue. When that is not enough, I will take all of the keys off and clean in warm soapy water. At the same time I take the opportunity to clean under the keycaps.

When I learned to type, I only used the left SHIFT key. I wonder if I'm the only weirdo that does that? I bet if you considered a 1.75u shift key that you would find more options.

Whether a switch is rated for 10 million, 20 million, or 50 million actuations I really don't care. I guess most switches nowadays are "cheap Chinese," but I most often use Khail, Gateron, or Cherry. I RARELY have to replace a switch, and in fact it is more common for me to have to repair a solder joint instead than the switch. If you are having issues with key chattering, I wonder if it's more of a problem with the firmware/controller in the keyboard than it is the switches themselves.
Years ago I had an issue with a KBParadise V60, and I had so many of the switches chattering. Sure I messed with the debounce interval, but ultimately it was a problem with the board itself instead of the actual switches. I think they were Cherry switches, Cherry or Gateron.

« Last post by jcoffin1981 on Sat, 21 June 2025, 21:54:05 »I definitely recommend a dedicated soldering station I've used the Weller WES51 for years and I think this is a better option than similar Chinese clones. It is powerful and uses a standard compatible with many pencils and tips. To be honest though I rarely use it now. Most of the newer boards I get are Hot Swap, and really just because they had the features I want. It is nice however not to have to de-solder a whole board if you want to change switches.

« Last post by jcoffin1981 on Sat, 21 June 2025, 21:43:12 »Can I ask what your aversion to 65% is? They are nearly identical, but include arrow keys and PGUP and PGDN keys. I don't actually use arrow keys, but on reprogrammable boards I will in another layer map arrow keys to I J K L. I also agree with using CAPSLOCK as Fn key, and IMO this is the only place for Fn key. If the board I want is only available in 65%, then I will buy that board.
