I don't remember but the PCB allows for both PCB mounting or case mounting right?
Works for pcb mounting, so if you find a plate then you can use plate mounted switches

As far as I know, they both work

It might have been a stupid question as it is the first DIY build I am considering doing. I wondered if there is a difference in PCB when you intend to mount whether on a plate or on the PCB. Like there is for the switches. I guess there are 2 kinds of stabs whether you mount them on PCB or on a plate, aren't there?

It's my first complete build I'm doing myself so I came across all the same questions when buying my parts a few months ago in preparation.

But yes, you buy the specific type stabs for how you are going to build. PCB mount stabs or plate mounted

If your pcb supports pcb mounting, then you can do both since you can always toss a plate on top.

A plate mounted only pcb will not have the holes for the legs of a pcb mount switch to fit in to settle down on to the plate

Anyone is free to correct me or explain it better if you can haha

Thanks for your explanation.

My question was more about if we could use pcb mount stabs onto a plate? For example, you can transform a PCB mounted switch to a plate mount switch just by cutting the little legs of your switches. I wonder if there is something similar for stabs or just have to order the right stabs at first.

Btw do you have an address where I could get some plate mounted stabs?

It depends a lot on the plate you are using, for example some support PCB mounted stabs, this is the case for a lot korean boards. PCB mounted stabs are only from Cherry.
Other plates support plate mounted stabs in this case you have 2 types, Costar and Cherry, some plates can take both other not, depends on the cutout. You can not make a plate mount Cherry stab out of a PCB one.

Costar stabs can be bought from mechanicalkeyboards , Cherry are harder to find, I think mouser has them but you have to buy a lot of them. There was also a GB ran by Ivan.

Last time someone asked the question he said there were ~20 PCB left.

I'm curious about people's planned configurations. What color schemes will you use for keycaps, smd LEDs, switch LEDs, etc.?

Anyone have any neat ideas or special plans to share?

The PCB has only the controller parts soldered, you need to solder diodes (it supports both DIP/thru hole and SMD diodes) and resistors for LED's (SMD).
Maybe something has changed with this batch but this is how it was initially.

I'm pretty sure there are no extra cases ( I completely regret not buying  one and forgot to place an order anyway)

The PCBs have the controllers pre soldered but that's it. You solder the diodes and resistors

I believe you can order directly from GON to have these pre-soldered to your liking.

Edit: DanielT beat me to it.

Alright I was asking for the case just in case something has changed because I'd be interested to get one.

Considering the diodes and resistors, I heard they are a ***** to solder. As it would be my first time soldering it got me worried a bit. If you can deal with Gon to get them soldered that's cool as well.

If you take your time with soldering, it's not too difficult, but the resistors for the bottom/side LEDs are VERY small, which will be troublesome

I would recommend asking/waiting for a reply from Bunny to see if there is a pre-soldered option or any solution to avoid the SMD soldering

If you use DIP diodes the job is simple, don't need advanced soldering skills, only a decent soldering iron for example this one is really good for the price http://www.antex.co.uk/soldering/standard-soldering-irons/xs25/ and it's not some piece of crap made on some ship.
For SMD that's another thing, you need some experience and a decent soldering station. I was able to solder with my Antex iron a few resistors but it's a pain.

But I would highly recommend to get one PCB, the quality is better than anything I have ever seen, and for starters you can solder only diodes and when you have the time do also the resistors.

Fair enough, thanks.

IIRC, the diodes are for the switches to work and resistance are for the LED?

Yep, diodes are for the switches. You need resistors only if you want LED's. [CTRL]ALT store has also the diodes (DIP) so you can order everything in one place.

If I was able to do it you can do it, I have zero soldering skills. Practice before on some scrap PCB with some wires and stuff like that and you will get the hang of it. For SMD is another story, for that you need more practice.

here is the progress

firstly gon says he is very sorry for the delay, its been a very busy time for him

the pcbs are finished and we even have a few more extras
the cases have finished being machined, and in his words, just need "blaster finish/anodizing" which they are undergoing now and he says he can have everything shipped by the end of this month

ill get pictures of them before they ship and put those up as soon as i have them

thats between you and zentaa, but its not problem if you sort it with him

as for the case, there will be one extra, but ill wait until they are all on hand before doing anything with that

if you really wanted to guarantee a case, i could speak to gon and find out how feasible it is to add more to the order at this stage

hey guys

a bit of a mirror for the post above, but this time i have actually had a long chat with gon myself

here is the progress

firstly gon says he is very sorry for the delay, its been a very busy time for him

the pcbs are finished and we even have a few more extras
the cases have finished being machined, and in his words, just need "blaster finish/anodizing" which they are undergoing now and he says he can have everything shipped by the end of this month

ill get pictures of them before they ship and put those up as soon as i have them
Thanks for the update Bunny.

As there are few extra PCBs, would there be some more cases as well? Would it be possible to take over Zentaaa's PCB only order too? Thanks.

thats between you and zentaa, but its not problem if you sort it with him

as for the case, there will be one extra, but ill wait until they are all on hand before doing anything with that

Yes!
If a case is possible, I'd be interested :D (not commuted, but interested)

Also, if it is possible to do it and ship separately (to not delay the current order) that sounds like a good idea if it would take too long

I've never taken anyone's order previously so I don't know the best way to proceed. I thought that I would pay him over and then I show you the transaction receipt so you could change the delivery address for his order to be shipped to me. Does it sound like a reasonable way to do it? Or shall I just wait for him to receive the goods and then sell it to me?

Concerning the case that'd be wonderful if you could ask him. However I don't want to burden you, if you can't/don't have the time for it that's ok. I believe you are already really busy with all the gb going on atm. As asdfjkl36 stated that'd be best if we don't delay the gb as we are late but if there is a way to do it without delaying and still be in the current shipment that'd be awesome indeed.  :thumb:

Thank you again Bunny and sorry for the troubles all of this may cause.

He can change the shipping address through his account on [CTRL]ALT. Then once the order is shipped it will just go to you instead of him.

No offense to Zentaaa, but if that's the case it also means that he could do it again at any time once I paid him to still get delivered at his place. I don't say he's a bad guy, I just don't know him. It would be safer for me to just order one of the extra Bunny talked about.

A little off topic but what is up with the ctlalt.io store?

Mostly curious about the jd40's but the "we are remodelling" is obviously bogus.
