@Belfong best to box it up and make sure it is securely locked away in a safe ;-)

My SSK is my daily user and my only one. I'm selling up and becoming a four board household.

They have lasted this long, I'm sure they will be ok :).  have a few keys that are pretty smooth, while the rest are pretty textured but that is not a big deal to me.

Just use it!  Isn't that what you bought it for in the first place?

Well, I do have other keyboards too and I should use it, ha ha!

But yeah, something's wrong in my head.

I admit I bought mine just to have it. And to have fun restoring/screw modding it. Also, to use it, of course.

That's not bad for a 28 year old keyboard that might have had an interesting life!

Congratulations on your acquisition :)

I have boards with both.  The two-piece are slightly weightier and feel like they transmit less of the click back through the key (and your finger).  If I compare them side by side I prefer the two piece.

In a blind test I don't think the average user can tell the difference.

Yeah, if anything they are harder to clean. But you are less likely to lose a cap in travel.

I've thought about hot-gluing the 2-piece caps together to see if they get more of a 1-piece feel. I have a bunch of spares, I just haven't tried it yet...

I guess you could, but that defeats the purpose of the 2-piece caps.  I really honestly can't tell a difference between them.

I never understood the purpose anyway. The plate is curved, not the caps, so it's not like a profile thing. And both parts pop out easily, so it's not really any easier to change layouts.

Yeah a fantastic job. And yes the pressed down keys where stuck.

Yeah, mine was trashed too, before I sent it off to him. Broken spacebar stab, missing stabs and the ones that were there were stuck. Also absolutely filthy and every key had a gross scratchy feeling, a lot of the springs were kinda rusty.  :))

Better than new after I sent it to him! He's a wizard. I recommend him whenever I can. :thumb:

Yeah the TMK powered USB controller, so good I'll finally get to play with TMK.

And led only on the ESC position, maybe I should have took a caps lock one too...

Nice :)

It's the little things that really make the keyboard - red Esc, APL keytcaps, LEDs behind the scroll lock cluster ...

I didn't know this thread existed!  I joined the club a few months back when I scored this one NIB locally for only $20.  :thumb:

It's a 1397680 born on 3-10-1993 very similar to the one here.  I even have that same box, but the serial number on the box is one digit off from the keyboard:
http://www.clickykeyboards.com/index.cfm/fa/items.main/parentcat/9242/subcatid/0/id/175803

My sdl cable is a bit unique as I've never seen one like it before and it's almost white.  But it's either the original or was put with the keyboard, many, many years ago because the foam has indentations from the cable and the cable hasn't moved.

The pics are from when the seller sent me what he had.  You should have seen my jaw drop when I saw what he was wanting to get rid of.  Story behind it is that he helped a friend clean out a storage unit and the friend let him keep it for the help.  He didn't even know what it really was, just wanted to make some space in his place.  There's two rivet heads that fell out, but no biggie.  You wouldn't know they were missing by typing on it.  :thumb:

One question though.  I've noticed that some models have a scroll lock button that has no legend for num lock and others do.  Are there different part numbers for the space savers that have these subtle differences?  Is there a list somewhere of all the space saver model numbers?  I checked the model M wikipedia table and it didn't seem to differentiate.

$20?

I hate you :p

Mind you, I can't complain, what with having two of them :))

Just cost me a bit more, that's all.

$20 is a great price! I was happy to get a NIB for $150! I have not opened it yet... maybe never will!

I didn't know this thread existed!  I joined the club a few months back when I scored this one NIB locally for only $20.  :thumb:

What a grab! NIB too that's a ridiculous deal  :thumb:

Got some black blank caps from Unicomp and finally got a SSK to use them with.

They didn't have a blank black right shift though.... I thought I could just deal with a gray one but man is it bugging me  :'(
If someone has a blank black right shift to sell, you would be my hero!

I want to get the case black as well but I'm not very confident in my painting skills. Might have to practice on some of my regular Model Ms

Looks pretty good. I may need to try that. I have a set of the grey blanks that I need to post in this thread...

Get black fabric dye and do it yourself.   Very easy.

Looks good.  Painting isn't difficult either, just have to prep right, but I personally would not modify an SSK in a way that couldn't be easily reversed.

Ya the biggest thing stopping me from painting the case is the fact that it can't be reversed.... I might just have to save the paintjob for my next SSK  :p

$20?

I hate you :p

Mind you, I can't complain, what with having two of them :))

Just cost me a bit more, that's all.
I know!  I had just started reading up on these here on GH and the unbelievable prices they go for and then--wham!  I was too shocked to even move the first time I saw the pictures.  I had to check everything twice.  I take it as a gift from the gods for all the hard work I've put in this year.  Having two must be pretty awesome.

Such unbelievable luck, and I'm one of the most unlucky people I've ever met.  I wouldn't open yours either, although you're missing out on the fun of using it.  I still have yet to start using mine yet.  I'm going to have to get a numpad first.

I was so happy when I finally had it in my hands.  :thumb:  I couldn't believe it.

I'd look for an industrial case or full keyboard as those black keys would look awesome on it.  You could always spice up the black by using the colored shifts from a unicomp rgb ctrl/shift/alt set.

My plan was to use one at work and one at home.

But then someone complained about the one at work, so I had to desist.  And I'm only allowed to use the one at home on weekends so I don't wake everyone else up early in the mornings and late at night.
