Love the pics, never thought about getting the FK before but this updated 2014 model looks the goods. Only problem it looks a little narrow in width but still worth a purchase.
The last pic of your mouse on a Shell Mouse pad, very swish 8) .
Nice review!
I still use my EC1, and if it breaks or something I will definitely get another Zowie mouse.
Really nice pics!
Where did you manage to get the 2014 version?

Found a little place in Australia that emailed me and said they were getting them in stock. I think there is one on eBay, too. Seems like it will be awhile before they trickle out to most vendors.
Also, little update: haven't been using it as extensively due to putting together a new system, but the single most annoying thing about the mouse has become the absorbent matte surface. Seriously, it's difficult to keep an even finish. I do notice the occasional cramp as well when stretching my hands, but nothing to complain about :D
While the mouse is reasonably long in lenght, the main thing I did not like about it (If I had to say one bad thing about it) is how low the mouse is.

My feeling exactly. They should of copied the WMO and made it slightly larger to accommodate more people, then they would have THE perfect mouse ever developed :thumb: .
My impression of the FK (and mouses like that) is that it's made for midgets.
Well this is most disappointing... the surface of the mouse has begun peeling in several spots after only a few weeks of use.
In a couple of places on the body of the mouse near the back there are ~1mm flaps of surface that have started to peel, while at the very back lip of the mouse a small line has peeled off.
The coating issue is something that Zowie has acknowledged and you should be able to get a hassle free RMA. You still have pay for one way shipping though.

If the FK's are known for this issue (now that they are becoming more widely available) I'm still concerned I'll just get another with the same issue. Isn't it a flaw in the materials used, or do you think it was just a bad batch?
I'm a left-handed player, but with default button-position (left and right click not switched).
- Can I enable all 4 side-buttons, or just the left/right pair?
- If I enable the right side buttons, are the mouse buttons switched (left = right...)?
With Zowie AM/FK this was a huge problem, maybe there are some changes in the 2014 model?
Would be thankful for a reply!

Only the side buttons on one side can be enabled at a time, depending on whether you have left or right hand set.
Are the left and right mouse button also switched after turning the mouse to lefthand mode (right sidebuttons enabled) ? So right-click = left-click?I'm a left-handed player, but with default button-position (left and right click not switched).

Yes, it switches to the right side buttons and switches LMB and RMB.
Looks like a 1.1 with upgraded internals. Meh.
Thank you man :)

Just received this mouse a couple of days ago. Is anyone else getting squeaks on the LMB? It's annoying lol
Everything is else perfect.
RMA arrived today (Zowie were out of new stock for a long time until a few days ago). Will update in the coming weeks if I notice the same peeling issue.
From what they told me they are aware of a small percentage of the first batch of units having this issue. Fingers crossed I won't experience the same thing again.
I've had mine for a month now and haven't had any peeling issues, hopefully your new one won't either.
Is the FK '14 label on the original box a sticker? I didn't have one on mine, but it is definitely the 2014 version. Does your new one say FK '14?
I've been using one for about 6mo now. What exactly does the "2014" edition change?
The 2014 update includes a new IR LED [sensor], 24-step scrollwheel, and all-black base, while keeping the attractive yellow scrollwheel and logo.
Hey Coreda, what camera/setup are you using for the pictures? Love the look.

Glad you like them. Nothing fancy, a Canon 300D, and sheets of white paper. Sunlight from a window was filtered through a diffuser for the lighting and Photoshop was then used to adjust the curves and color for consistency.
For comparison the photos from the review (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=55271.0) of the Poker board were photographed with a bit more light, so I could lower the ISO for clearer results.

ALWAYS get another Zowie, they're worth the money. Besides it's good to change around the rodents once and awhile so the hand never gets use to one input device.
Just want to throw in another data point - I bought this mouse on Feb 20th (according to Amazon) and the surface under the right button has started to flake. Sent a support request to Zowie and we'll see what happens.
It's a shame because I like this mouse even more than the MX518 it replaced which I already thought was pretty great.
Thanks for the detailed review!
I am tempted to buy one now :)

They recently made (http://www.zowiegear.com/index.php?i=news&p=57) an official acknowledgment of the issue, and recommended returning models that have the issue to the place of purchase if possible. I know of one user who hadn't had success contacting Zowie through their RMA process, so it may be another option if there's no response.
I have a tiny flap now on the back of my new Zowie FK after a couple weeks of use, so I'm beginning to expect the peeling is inherent to the type of coating Zowie used. After the cost involved with the whole process I was hoping it may have been different, but I've just had to accept it. Most matte surface mice apparently share similar coatings, but it did come as a surprise to several how fickle the coating on the FK can be
It's a great mouse otherwise, and I'll continue to check back in case anything major happens, but I'm not too concerned.
Nice review!
Have you had any problems with this mouse?
Zowie never responded to my RMA request I submitted online. Amazon gave me a refund after I contacted them even though I was outside the return window and did not have any of the original packing so...hurray Amazon customer service.
Just wanted to pop in to say that this mouse has been fantastic for me in the last year in UT2004! No wheel squeeking to speak of here. The shame is lovely and goes great with my black Artisan ZERO pad. From what I've read optimal tracking is at the highest dpi on this mouse and that is what I use. Cheers!

I ordered another one because I like the mouse so much, but if it happens again I'm probably going to try the Deathadder 2013 even though I dislike backlighting.

Another update - my new Zowie FK has begun to flake after 1.5 months. I'm keeping it this time because functionally it's still the best mouse I've ever used, but I will probably look for alternatives to Zowie for my next mouse.

After return 2 FK 2014s I've been using the FK1. So far so good, but too early to tell...
Also the long (looooong) delayed Ninox Aurora mouse is finally shipping. Elrick made a thread about it a few weeks ago but a mod must have deleted the thread for whatever reason. Looking forward to the reviews.
Has anyone here gotten the latest model which is the FK1?
Slightly larger (casing) by 1 to 2mm (can you believe that) yet very little info about it's performance other than the usual Sales speech by paid off 'review-sites'.
Would be nice to see some info relating to the previous model and if it is indeed 'better' than was released earlier, I suspect it won't be unless you're a rabid Zowie-lover in which anything connected to that company should be brilliant (in their eyes only).
Although they still make the only traditional WMO1.1 style of casing (FK1) for the addicts out there.
Double post. Sorry guys!
But here's a comparison with the G400, and how I grip it.

"New mice" released by Zowie, the FK2...
Basically, it's just the same FK'14 :rolleyes:MoreShow Image(http://zowiegear.com/pr_image/vs1.jpg)Show Image(http://www.zowiegear.com/pr_image/FK2_PR003.jpg)Show Image(http://zowiegear.com/pr_image/vs2.jpg)Show Image(http://www.zowiegear.com/pr_image/FK2_PR004.jpg)
Is there are thread anywhere on the Zowie FK 2014 vs the Razer Imperator?
l've been using the FK2 for a few weeks and it's seriously good for CS:GO. Received an FK1 earlier this week as a spare but have not unboxed. It seems the everything about the FK1 is the same but the slightly bigger size... :D
I was a bit unfamiliar with the small size of the FK2 coming from the DA Chroma. Didn't really like having to do cloud settings for a mouse, hence decided to go for the driverless FK series. I must say the FKs should adopt the DA Chroma's uncoated rough surface. The rubbery touch is susceptible to peel and the flaky scroll wheel is kinda meh... Everything else is as good as it gets! :thumb:
Amazing high quality pictures! WOW. You should seriously review the Taiwanese Intellimouse 3.0 knock-offs. They are simply amazing (if you know where to look)!!
So after a measly two years and after a good 60% of the coating had peeled off (which happened much earlier) it seems the FK '14 is getting senile and sporadically clicking when no buttons have been touched. May have to do with recently dusting it but nonetheless can't say great things about its longevity compared to some mice, or the Huano switches that I began to find too stiff after prolonged use.
I'll either take it apart and see if anything fixes the problem or find a decent replacement. Suggestions welcome.Amazing high quality pictures! WOW. You should seriously review the Taiwanese Intellimouse 3.0 knock-offs. They are simply amazing (if you know where to look)!!
Thanks :) About the Intellimouse knocks, are you saying they're comparable/better than the real thing?
Care to post a pic? Been using two avior 7000's for a year now, one at work one at home. Nothing peeled off yet fortunately.

Sure, took this shot earlier. Excuse the lighting/IQ, it was later in the day so the levels were brightened.

Are the Aviors known for similar issues?
Absolutely not. I have 3. My GF, one for me, and one at the office. NEVER seen that. My Avior 7000's are still perfectly fine. No sign of obvious wear or tear. The only thing I see is some oil/grease where I click or have my thumb, but you can easily clean that. Scrollwheel is also still as new. All of them are 1 year in now.

May have to look more into the Mionix range, as for whatever reason I didn't pay them much attention when looking for a mouse previously. Found this useful comparison thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=61840.0) on GH between the two mice, and if the shape is similar it might be a worthwhile option.
I do like the relative simplicity and ambidextrous design of the Zowie compared to most gaming mice, which was another factor in my original choice. Looks like the Avior can be used with either hand thankfully.
What initially lead me to look into gaming-specific mice was actually just to find a decent mouse without angle snapping, prediction, etc. Remarkably even among gaming mice it can still be an issue, as I found out when I first bought a SteelSeries Kinzu only to discover it had the 'feature' of angle-snapping.
