G502 proteus core,  the only mouse,  the best mouse.  Also a m570 for when im feeling trackbally

Preach it brother! How is it getting used to a trackball from a normal mouse? I've been considering picking one up.

I tried the Naos 7000 and Castor side by side. Preferred the Castor due to being a bit smaller, lighter and more suited to lifting. The Castor is essentially a hybridization of certain aspects of the Castor and Avior.

I've seen a lot of praise for the Castor. I'm sure I'll pick one up at some point. The specs look great.

I need to try it as well but I'm afraid I don't like the shape. The Avior being a "intellimouse on steroids" IMHO is so awesome.

I tried the Naos 7000 and Castor side by side. Preferred the Castor due to being a bit smaller, lighter and more suited to lifting. The Castor is essentially a hybridization of certain aspects of the Castor and Avior.

The Naos has a much more pronounced finger rest for ring/pinky than the Castor, which is quite subtle in comparison.

Both have an excellent braided cable that is not stiff. Similar to removing the core from paracord. I find this a serious problem with most braided mice. Both mice share essentially the same sensor and hate the Artisan Raiden pads I recently got to replace my old Hien Kien's, but I anticipated this and also got Shidens which are fine.

I was able to find a Castor for around $40 but it got lost on it's way to me, which sucks because I just wanted a new mouse :(

Fixed my quote in my original post - that should have read that the Castor is a hybridization of the Avior and Naos  :p. The three lines all serve their purpose. To me the Castor is better for claw, fingertrip, and hybrid claw/fingertip grips, and decent at both low and high CPI. The Naos is better for palm grips and higher CPI as it's awkward to lift at lower CPI.

The Avior is just a great ambidex alternative to either, and it's size is in the middle of the other two.

I also like that they shifted the software for the Castor to be a simple .exe file without an installation. Easy to use and close, no need for software sitting active in the OS doing nothing. Roccat's software is appalling from the couple of mice that I have used, even though I found the Kone Pure Military a pretty decent mouse.

Tried the G502 for about a week. It's probably one of the best alternatives to the Mionix mice currently.

Pros:

-Superb sensor
-Great feel, suitable for many grip types and hand sizes

Cons:

-Stiff braided cable
-Restrictive/stiff rubberized cable guard
-Terrible mousewheel. Feels awkward to click and roll to the point of being cumbersome - greatly prefer the G402 / G602 mousewheel.

A logitech g600 mmo... and I don't even use all the buttons on it  :))

I just got it so I can try and write a program to map those buttons on it at some point.  ;D

Logitech G602 on my desktop, but I'm in search of a replacement because I want something that's wired and still comfortable enough for me to palm.

Logitech M570 for my Raspberry Pi.

Logitech G303 for my work MBP (we play LoL during lunch sometimes and for whatever reason my G602 lags in-game, so much that it's basically unusable).

I kinda like Logitech a little. Too bad they don't have a wired G602, then I'd be set for life.

zowie fk2 at the moment. i'll probably sell it soon, the shape just doesn't do it for me.

i'm waiting for new mouse feet to arrive, so that i can play around with a bunch of other mice. they all have absolutely terrible feet at the moment, and it makes them unusable for me :E

Did you ever pick up what the difference between a FK1 and a FK2 is? I can't understand the differences.

I'm just going to pick up another Rival tomorrow, and I'll use my new one at home and the old one with the slightly messed up scroll wheel at work.

I was playing some Dirty Bomb last night and I love how it handles and how grippy it is. If it were slightly larger it would be perfect. But for now, out of all the mice I own, I think it might be my favorite. I still love my G602, but I think i started to notice a tiny bit of lag last night. That could either be because the batteries are going to need to be replaced soon, or it could just be because I still don't entirely trust wireless so my brain is playing tricks on me. Either way, I don't really want to have to deal with it.

I have a few, my steelseries sensei cable started to crappy out, still works. My g602 is awesome, but it's fallen off my bed a few too many times and likes to double click.
Just replaced both with another Logitech: mx master. Too bad it's not called the topre master.

Currently, CoolerMaster Sentinel 3, simply the BEST mouse they have ever made  8) .

Perfect switches, nice surface finish on the casing and every setting you want can be kept on the mouse without needing any type of bloated, fat versions of Synapse installed at all.

Just be glad there is still a mouse manufacturer keeping it real, instead of another rubbish company releasing another "Gamer" style abortion, to the idiot newbs out there.

I've been exclusively on the Taipan for a while now, too. My hands are pretty big, so the length of the mouse serves me very well. It's also got just the right amount of buttons for my tastes, and while the Sensei feels the best in my hands, the Taipan is just the right combination of buttons and size for me.

Remember that their is NO such thing as a Razer or Logitech Factory situated within China, they ALL use specific manufacturers to make all their models.  Sometimes Logitech lucks out in picking the right factory and so will Razer but in the end, it comes down to specific design details that will either win new users or lose them.

Thus far for longevity, Logitech wins out right over Razer's current gear.  Maybe one day they (Razer) will actually make something that is worth keeping instead of dumping into Landfill sites around the globe  ;D .

I agree with you about Logitech. I have a little logitech trackman marble that went through a few paces without issue. My palm print is burned in to the mouse but it still works great

I currently have a ttesports black, which is pretty nice for the price, and a Steelseries Rival 300. The steelseries is nice, but it doesn't like linux (which is my on main machine now  :() and it's really temperamental about which usb port it plugs into. Anyone else encountered that?

just finished modding my Logitech G502.
new wheel, removed unnecessary parts adding weight on the inside, added new better feet to it, removed some of the sharp bad feet, de-braided the cable.

weighs a bit less now (just over 100g, I think 102 without cable?) and the wheel is actually useable. stock wheel is so harsh with its all metal build.

Considering it's just a mouse..

Prolly could file large chunks of plastic out of it, and it'd still be structurally sound to perform as a mouse..

Assuming you're the non-angry type gamer of course.

My mouse has removable weights that apparently weigh 4.5g. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it is noticeable. It all comes down to preference though, and if your are using a mouse like a CS pro, a lighter mouse will probably feel better as you whip it around the mouse mat.

It's like gaming switches..

If you focus all of your perceptions, and slowly try to feel out the difference between two objects..

Yes,  sure you can tell one switch is heavier, or one mice is heavier..

HOWEVER..  in PRACTICE,  whey you're typing out on 10fastfingers, or playing a game..  I find it hard to believe that 20 grams ontop of a mice will be within just-noticeable-difference range..

Same goes for SSDs... yea  currently all the Gen 6 stuff are objectively faster than gen 2..

But 9 times out of 10 during desktop use.. it's impossible to tell...

___ Why is that the case.. becauseeeeee  the RANDOM I/O is only about 5-10MB faster..

I just took all the weights out of my mouse, totalling ~20 grams at it was very noticeable. The best way to describe the feeling is just "kinda off". The main factor is that the weights are not central, so the COM moved forward in my hand. I'm not saying it affects me though, I can still use it fine and though I'm not gaming right now, I'm sure it would not affect my play in any noticeable fashion.
However, I'm not playing for Fnatic. If you play CS for a day job its probably more important to you what the mouse weight feels like. As with the SSDs example, in a normal desktop scenario there's no return on investment, but if you're running an important server then the improvement might be more relevant.

I must say the 98g number, or rather the focus on it, seems arbitrary. Its just a pattern that people have noticed, why aim for it if you don't know it will be more comfortable for you? If 100g feels sluggish, then sure, try shaving the 2g off and test again.

Can some people actually tell the difference between a 98g mouse and a 102g mouse, or is it just "gamer" bull**** like "gaming" switch types?

My mouse has removable weights that apparently weigh 4.5g. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it is noticeable. It all comes down to preference though, and if your are using a mouse like a CS pro, a lighter mouse will probably feel better as you whip it around the mouse mat.

I guess I just have this picture of a CS:GO pro being handed a mouse and exclaiming, "You dare give me a mouse that weighs 102g instead of 98g!?!  Inconceivable!"

I actually made all that up and have no idea about mice weights :)

I knew it..  you're all actually touchpad users...

I'm too invested now to believe that, so I'm just gonna disregard what you said  :p

Logitech g502, with mappings to make it a one-handed web browsing device. It's addicting.

just finished modding my Logitech G502.
new wheel, removed unnecessary parts adding weight on the inside, added new better feet to it, removed some of the sharp bad feet, de-braided the cable.

weighs a bit less now (just over 100g, I think 102 without cable?) and the wheel is actually useable. stock wheel is so harsh with its all metal build.

Considering it's just a mouse..

Prolly could file large chunks of plastic out of it, and it'd still be structurally sound to perform as a mouse..

Assuming you're the non-angry type gamer of course.

I have actually won tournaments with money and other fun prizes, so I'm practically pro! ;)

however, weight difference is around 20g from stock, so I'd say it's substantial. it's very easy to tell the difference.
static friction is greatly affected, but it's also important to have a good mousepad and good mouse feet for that.
just make it as good as you can without destroying anything, and all will be well!

static friction is one of the most important factors of being able to aim well in fast-paced games.

I used to use a lot lighter mice but I decided to go for something that would work better ergonomically.

^^ this.

Otherwise depending on which machine I'm using:

  • TrackPoint
  • Microsoft Sculpt Ergo: could be a bit bigger for my hands, and the drivers don't allow for similar bindings to my G502. I finally got around to writing a little AutoHotKey script which mostly replicates my G502 settings: tilt-wheel changes tabs, G7 (or that dreaded Windows key) closes the current tab, G6 (or CTRL+WinKey) opens a new one.
  • Whatever trackpad or mouse there is.

I have a Logitech G500s at work and a G502 at home. Being able to change the DPI levels with their software has been the draw for me. I'm betting it's a common feature these days, but I haven't put in any effort in checking since I'm pretty happy with them both.

So now I have a trackball, I would like to get some plug in buttons to go into the back. I'm thinking of programming a pair on one side and either a single or pair on the other side, but I am not sure what to programme them to do. I'm thinking Home and End buttons maybe, but the scroll wheel is so smooth, there isn't that much of a need for them really, but I do use them pretty often.

Has anybody else got programmable buttons? What do you use them for? What circuitry are you using? And how the hell do I programme one?

    Thanks :)

CST trackball nice  :) I understand that cherry mx can be used but other than that :-[  One day I'll buy an L-Trac to replace my trackman marble I guess

oooo, that looks really cool. I'm sure somebody quoted me and showed me Ripster's mods... I'm pretty sure you can use the techkeys OKB and TKB but they aren't on sale at the moment :(

True, I figured you have already read through that post. I assumed the switches would be wired directly to the audio jacks and the L-Trac software would handle the rest.
