I'm assuming when you say "centered" you mean vertically centered. MANY of the OG IBM mech keyboards (including the Model M) had vertically centered shift mods. If there's some top aligned shift mod utopia out there, it was never a very big one.

What are the spacebar sizes in the Unusual Kit? GMK Future Funk is running now with 1.25C spacebars. I'm hoping that's what I'm seeing in the pic for this kit, but can't tell for sure since the sizes aren't specified there.

Not much, but we finally got the renders from GMK. I've given GMK some feedback already as there's a few legends that look off to me.

After we've given feedback to GMK we got a new render where the issues are resolved:

And we finally received the samples! They look spot on. I've checked them against the RAL decks that I used while designing this set and tried to capture it as good as possible below.
Will send the samples to Ryan this week so he can double check everything too and then either decide to ask for new samples or just approve them straight away ;D

No real updates, but I don't want to go completely silent.
Samples are on it's way to Project Keyboard to have them tested.
I'm also well aware of the GMK issues lately, so I'll make sure to address this to GMK before production starts.
Probably not coming as a surprise, but due to COVID it won't be likely that this GB will start shipping in Q4.
Hopefully we can approve the samples soon and then I'll be able to give a better estimation of when shipping will start.

We've had our samples tested against the RAL cards by Nebulant (thank you). Based on the results we decided to approve the Cream (RAL 9001) and ask for a R2 of the Wine Red (RAL 3005).

Yeah to me they looked pretty spot on too, but after discussing it and seeing the tests I decided to go for another round.
At this point buying a keyset means waiting a year - less if you're lucky. Not a knock on this GB just a general statement of how I approach these anymore, I'd rather everyone be happy with how it looks than wait 3 months less and get something subpar. Especially with this set since it's easy to just end up with red and white rather than the deeper red and cream colors that got me to buy a set.I feel you! I'm in the same boat for other GBs. But like you said, I would rather wait and get the quality I expect than accept something subpar.

For a while, it was the raw material dyes and colors not arriving on time which limited color matching. Unclear what the rate limiting step is now.

It seems like I was misunderstanding the test results a bit.
Nebulant just explained it to me:
"In CIELab color, L* is lightness. It's a 3 dimensional color space, L* is like the Z axis representing lightness. a* and b* are the color components, the further they are from origin, the more saturated a color is."
This doesn't change anything. The test results still confirm that R2 sample is more accurate.
Even though the differences are minor, I just want to make sure the colours of the set match the RAL colours as much as possible.

Bare in mind it looks different in different lighting/screens/pictures etc. But I've compared the set to the approved samples, and it's spot on. Very happy with how this came out and I'm looking forward to everyone receiving their sets!

This will never rerun. At least according to designer.
As no one has a right on colors, you could, in theory (and if GMK agrees) do your own version of this.
(DCS Superweld not being named Hyperfuse for that reason is my guess)
Also I am saying this as some vendor and known designer told me “I don’t own colors” ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
But ofc you would anger all Perestroika owners, koen and a lot of other people. I personally wouldn’t do it, despite Perestroika being one of my favorite sets.
However, IF this reruns, I am buying frfr on god. Make it happen, Koen or whoever has big balls and no chills. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Re-running sets is a double edged tiger, and I'm not fond of either option to be honest. That being said if this does rerun I will be on that this like nobody's business.
Koen told me once on Insta that he'll never rerun it. I guess it's up to someone else to do it. As it was well observed some comments before, nobody owns the colors, so... Since my demand to reran the set on Istagram I finally got my set for 500 or so dollars and I do not regret it a single second. BUT YEAH, SOMEONE OUT THERE, PLEASE MAKE A SET WITH SAME COLORS AND LET KOEN GUIDE YOU ON THIS JOURNEY. AMEN. hahaha

yes I very well know, this is why I posted that. kindly asking for reconsideration is still community feedback, I hope we're still allowed to leave some even if it clashes with ICs going out of fashion and the increasing rounds of planned bought-out GMK preorders no one asked for.
and yes, I know things can be rerun under permission but I don't have enough social connections at the moment to feasibly make it happen.

With this post, I hope to explain my decision to discontinue GMK Perestroika, and why it will never run again.
Perestroika, the backbone idea behind the set, initially aimed to celebrate reform and openness by combining English and Cyrillic characters. I hoped its symbolism would empower its users with the possibility of progression and unleash new veins of thought.
However, current political turmoil and conflicts involving Russia leave no room for the message I intended for GMK Perestroika. The devastating war in Ukraine could not take us further away from these sentiments and I believe, in these desperate times, its running is insensitive and could be hurtful to many.
I want to respect our community, and my actions must align with our values. This is why, GMK Perestroika will be discontinued completely.
As part of this decision, I will not allow others to run the set using my design. It will always connect to its origin and original designer.
I also want to apologise first for any upset its running may have caused, and secondly for any disappointment in its discontinuation. I ask for your understanding of this decision. Your support throughout this journey has been invaluable, and I'm grateful for all of it.
