Inspiration
The Gentoo is a penguin themed, 65% keyboard that is a clear successor to my previously released board, The Adélie (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=105185.0). With The Adelie paying homage to my favorite types of boards, sub 60's, it excluded the number row. For some, this was a deal breaker and I can't say that I blame them.

I love the Blue (curious to see it side by side with the Adelie to see the difference).
Black/White is a classic but a bit boring to my taste, the green is a very nice shade but hard to match with many sets.
Hopefully we get one more color. Personally kinda hoping for a Plum/Purple. Or maybe a Pink or maroon/deep red would probably also look great.

This! It was one of my suggestions on IC Form also.
Give us the possibility of choosing the weight type for each color and also to buy as extra and I think more people will be pleased.

After binge watching Atypical last weekend, mentions of penguins are heartwarming. This looks excellent, GLWIC!
I love the design of Adelie but it was a 40%, now this one it's great! :thumb:
Loved the Adelie, can't do 40s, so count me in on the Gentoo! That green is extremely clean. Would love silver side pieces with the green, and perhaps black PVD side pieces with the white? Brass suits the blue alu, but not so much the other colors in my opinion.
I love the idea of black with white in concept but leads to a very harsh contrast that I think only plays well for those who want to full commit to the monochrome lifestyle.

I just built my Adelie last night and now you are already tempting me again? Wow. Well, I don't think I can justify another 65%, but an ISO Adelie sure would look terrific. The green is a great addition in any case, excellent look.

Always loved the Adelie. Definitely in!
I love my Adelie but this is the one thing (65% form factor) that would make it even better. Absolutely sold! The quality of the design/manufacturing is TOP NOTCH on the Adelie and I love the rounded nature of the case. I saw someone swap the side weights on a black Adelie to be gold instead of silver pvd.... that NEEDS to be an option.
Black and Gold does look nice in theory but makes for hard keyset matching IMO other than maybe that Pharaoh set coming up.. and GMK Lux
Gentoo can get in my belly - love the design! Adelie was just a bit small so this is perf!

Looks great. I’m a huge fan of my Adelie, and will join this for sure. I’d love to see the red/brass combo from Adelie on the Gentoo, even if it’s a bit different like the blue renders.

In the render that lays out the parts, I put two weights in that render just to have both sides of it up facing upward. I should add that under the image..
Or was it that you were referring to the weight appearing to be two different slabs stuck together?

Yes! I think my recent purchases with similar value from US vendors came out to be around $200 in total for shipping + tax + duties. Im glad we might get a canadian vendor. Really love this design

Great looking board, especially the green addition! Would love to see an off-white colourway, and perhaps PVD/polished weight options for all colourways. I actually think polished/PVD accents and weights work better with more keysets. For memory the best looking Adelie was yours in the creamy off-white and PVD brass, so would be cool to seeilumkb and MKEU have been added as the SEA and EU vendors respectively.

As for the red, we can't have it all. I thought, we have to keep the white and black, blue often does better than red, so red got nixed for green. Perhaps for a r2!

Exactly how I wished Adelie was! Def keeping up with this project - is there a discord for updates by chance?

The PCB is about done now. Vendors have been arranged. Hopefully to order protos of boards and PCBs for a GB that is sometime this year. Making no promises, these are just my wishes :)

+1, I would love to have the option to choose a PVD silver weight with a green or a navy board (like on the Adélie). Please make this a reality.

After some discussion, Deskhero will be our Canadian vendor. Additionally, weights will be offered as extras for the group buy. As for the amount of variability, that cannot be specified yet.

Also hoping this time around the final colors are closer to the renders. In Adelie both the navy and red turned out to be significantly less saturated than the renders, especially the red which turned out to be probably a good 3 shades lighter than the gorgeous deep red in the renders.

For this reason we try to use proto pictures for group buy photos. While they may not match the renders there shouldn't be any misleading about what you will get when you are participating in the groupbuy.

I was looking very specifically for black with SS weights and if I have to pay extra for one, it kind of makes me question whether I would want to go in for this.

Upas and I are working together to make this mix and match. I have some photos of the prototype I have now in hand and will have some pictures coming tonight!100% agree with Abec13.
Additionally, we are looking to make the default PCB hotswap!
I'm not sure if this is intentional but this will certainly alienate a lot of the international ISO users...it certainly will for me.
Unless and this is a big UNLESS, the default hotswap PCB includes support with multiple lay-out options.

Casting my voice along with CookieFlow's. Unless hot swap supports multiple layouts or there are multiple hotswap options available (which would seem to negate the point in making them the default), it's unnecessarily limiting.
I realise we're getting a bit close to the wire for these arguments to change anything at this point, but I thought I might as well add my voice to the chorus for whatever it's worth.

Sorry, that layout will not be available for this board. I am finding that that layout is irregular for the exploded 65+ style boards like this one but I may be wrong on that.

How would that even work? The total u on each side of the spacebar for the 7u layout is 3u on each side, whereas 1.5, 1, 1.5 would be 4u which would not work with this exploded layout. Even in the 6.25u layout it has 3.75u on the left and 3u on the right which wouldn't work with that layout of 1.5, 1, 1.5 mods.
Even if you removed one of the 1.5u mods on the right and put a 1u mod on the left, you'd still be left with .5u unaccounted for.
