switch holes size
« on: Wed, 05 July 2017, 19:26:06 »
I have a doubt about the size for the switches on the backplate.
Considering the simple square for MX only (called t:1 at swill kb), the side should be exactly 14.0mm?
I asking because I will request a plate from another manufacturer, but the guy said that the draws from the DXF file that I've send him had no measurements. I make the draw from swill and I'm basically relying on these free tools like KBE and so on to make it happen. I need some measures to use as reference.

BTW, I will only make it with another manufacturer because the dollar is too expansive for me right now (I'm from Brazil and the local currency has dropped dramatically in recent 2 years or so).

The data sheet says 14.0 ± 0.05 mm, with a corner radius of max 0.3 mm.

If your supplier is doing CNC routing and has a difficulty routing that small then you could let the router go outside the square a little bit.
If it is one small keyboard for yourself and it is a plate of aluminium (that you don't anodise) then it might not be too much work to sharpen the corners by hand with a needle file anyway.

Thank you, i will give him this information and see if it can be done. It will be made with "AISI Type 304 Stainless Steel" instead of Aluminum. The thickness should be 1.5mm if I've understood correctly what it needs to be done. Laser cut, not CNC.

If you need plate files made, feel free to drop a layout you want and I can put one together (only takes maximum 10 minutes).

It should be 14mm but swillkb often gives out 13.999 or 14.001 etc.

Regarding the corners, they can be 1mm and its still fine (the bigger, the easier to CNC; doesn't matter with laser).

304 is pretty standard.

Plates should be 1.5mm to allow the switches to clip in.

I think I'm good now, thank you though. I'm just concern if this guy can make a precision job.
No much I can do about it. All the other places I've found here so far only work with high volume products.

I'll probably buy the top layer as well. This one doesn't require the same thickness but I will still make with 1.5mm.
The plan is fill the gap with a 5mm Polycarbonate "ring", so above the backplate should be 6.5mm total plates.
From the schematics that I saw, this is the measure I need to avoid the "floating" design.

The bottom case should also be PC.
