[Tai-Hao] New Double Shot Molding Keycaps in PBT
« on: Thu, 18 December 2014, 19:53:28 »
Update Add-on Keys:

Here I choose two of Datacomp's Keyboard to try Big Shaped-L Enter

For Datacomp, The long stem of Enter Key will go down and pass through PCB.

1. Zowie Celeritas /w Miami

2. SteelSeries 7G /w Red&Black

Update my received order:

I am lazy to try all of colors, choose black/yellow to take pictures.
Installed with KBP v60

Compare to other 60%

Update full set pictures,
notice: add-on keys are depend on demand, not standard products.

Key caps box:

Key caps frame:

1. Yellow/Black

2. Orange/Black

3. Red/Black

4. Miami

Hi Geekers,

Tai-Hao is developing many new products recently.
I just received these samples last night, They provide me FOUR solutions in Bi-Color sets.

1. Red/Black

2. Yellow/Black

3. Orange/Black

4. Likely Miami

Current information:
*. OEM profile
*. Thin molding

I will take pictures later to compare with below PBT keycaps I have on my hand and update in this OP :)
1. Vortex thin
2. Vortex thick
3. Keycool
4. Leopold
5. Noppoo
6. Cherry
7. SP

Interesting. They're not thick, but they might be fine even for a board I care about.

Tai Hao are generally reasonable keycaps, especially for the money.  Remember that they have been producing keycaps for a long time, so they've pretty much works out all the kinks.

The legends are also very consistent, which does greatly improve the look of a keycap set.

The price of these will be interesting.  Hopefully it will be in a similar range to the existing ABS sets.

Any reason you're doing Toxic Lite, Nostalgia, and Miami instead of something original?  Don't get me wrong, I love affordable Tai Hao sets, but we should strive to be doing something original instead of a remake of someone's sets.

Interesting looks stuff. I'm not too bothered about material to be honest, I do like them to be thick though and not a found of OEM profile, perhaps in the future Tai Hao would look to have a Cherry/DCS profile or SA/tall profile, which I don't think would be happening soon or ever.

PBT douleshot with Cherry profile would be fantastic, and IMO they would be better keycaps than SP ones. You can expect that Tai-hao will finally add novlties to their product. I don't care about whether it is wyse or Helvetica on my keybds, I only care whether it is cherry font or not.

awesome, I'm totally down with them cloning some of the popular sets.
If the miami comes out, I'd deff buy.

Spending $100 for a abs set, no thanks, but if I can get a copy set for $20-30, I'm in.

I'm still waiting on my ollivette set from one of the GB's on here though. Should be in early next year.

If you've ever looked at how a lot of these Asian companies produce products (especially Chinese companies) you'll notice that they start out making clones, copies, or budget versions of existing products then slowly branch out.

If you can release something that is successful in the broader market, then you can start developing your own niche products. The example sets are pretty niche outside of the enthusiast market (I love my miami key cap set, but there isn't a huge demand for them outside of GH, Reddit, etc) so making an entirely new set would require a lot of advertising/convincing on their part which they probably don't want to do.

Tai Hao is old and established, not new and are already large and succesful, finally breaking into the niche market with retailers like Newegg.

Given that we have done GBs with them in colors we requested, I don't doubt that these colors were requested instead of doing novel colors.  Even if they weren't, the push should be for novel ideas and we should be working with the manufacturer to realize the concept.

I would like to see new schemes, not rehashed.

Just for confirmation: The profile is Cherry like? Because Vortex DS PBTs are OEM profile, now a full set of the Vortex is at $20 usd at Massdrop, thus these caps should be even cheaper.

Another big round of applause for Tai Hao, in making value sets so inexpensively. I think in the long run competition from Tai Hao will bring down prices for everyone.

I do not use an standard ANSI nor ISO layout, thus, the main drawback from these sets is there is no alternative keys, like 1.75u 3rd row control, 1.5u 2nd row back space, 1.75u right shift, and so. I suppose their low cost prevent to produce any short runs for such special keys.

For those who can't read Chinese: Generally the texture of Tai-Hao caps is much smother than other caps listed above except Cherry/GMK caps.

We can be, I'd just like to see innovation instead of taking the work of others without talking to them first.  Did they talk to Daniel, Bunny, or Lysol/Ivan before they did Miami, GH Nostalgia, and Toxic redux?  If they did, fine, if not, come on, take a chance and do something original.  There are literally hundreds or thousands of combinations they could do, ones I know people would love to see.

Update full set pictures in OP.

Yeah the orange set looks good. Do you know if they will make Olivetti this way?

Very nice. Light years better than the Vortex PBT doubleshots. Will definitely pick up a couple sets -- I have been pleased with Tai Hao's ABS keycaps -- looking forward to these.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

Is anyone else not able to see the new pictures added to the OP?

When I first looked on my phone I could see them?  Now they are not even showing up in Firefox.

This is why Chrome is saying it can't display them

I hope they will also produce PBT sets with Alps/Matias-mount stems.

Hmm.  Yeah I'm always signed in to my Google account.  I wonder if it's something on GH's end?

This is what I'm seeing:

I have tried 4 different browsers.

You can shared link folder images, right?

These images are in same folder.

The strange point is that CommonCurt said he can view pictures on his phone previously.
But I didn't change anything on my google drive setting.

Probably language issue.
