How to reduce the metallic echo sound that my keyboard makes when it bottoms out? I've heard that putting a sound dampening foam underneath the pcb can help but do any of you have any experience with this?

Yes. Non-conductive mats or foam, like drawer/shelf-liner has been used for this.
