(IC) MintNight keycaps (reverse midnight) (updated)
« on: Thu, 05 February 2015, 22:51:17 »
Introducing the MintNight Keycap set.  This set would include a full 10-key setup plus a 1 unit windows key and 2.25 unit shift key.  Colors would be VCO and GB.  Standard DCS profile.

All feedback welcome, positive and negative.  If there's anything you'd like to see added to this set please let me know.

I've basically got two options.  I can either try to run this through PMK and see if I get enough interest despite my sever lack in design skills (the mock-up aint that great) OR I can bank roll 50 sets of these from SP myself and offer the full sets to you guys for ~$85-$90 and that would include everything in the set.

What profile do you intend on using for the keys?

Looks like an inverted Midnight set.

Also, there's no color codes, so what colors will you be using?

Sorry standard cherry profile and from PMK's site VCO and GD for the colors.  Didn't see the midnight set, not bad looking.

PMK doesn't make cherry profile specifically, but their DCS is a close approximation so I guess that's the profile you want.

Thanks reading more into profiles DCS would be correct.  Looks like thats the standard for signature plastics anyways, yeah?

I think you could use a better mockup.
VCO is actually a bit more green and lighter.

Yeah, so almost exactly an inverted Midnight set.

Yeah design isn't my strong-point by anymeans.  I'll go back to the drawing board and re-update this with more information and hopefully a better looking representation of what I want.  I'm in the process of building a keyboard from scratch and it seems the only way to get keycaps I want for it is to try my hand at getting some made.

Updated the mock up with the proper colors and after seeing VCO with GD i changed to GB because the former was too light of a color to work with VCO.

reached out to SP to get pricing if I just order from them.  Not nearly as bad as some of the other companies I've spoke to.  BSP told me an MOQ of 100 sets and I'd pay over $100 a set.....crazy.  SP is much cheaper for far fewer sets.

I'm assuming you, sorry, new round these parts.

If it counts I had designed this keyset without seeing the midnight set, so I wasnt blatantly ripping anyone off (atleast knowingly)

Great minds think alike?

If you're designing a new set it's good to know what other sets have been done already. Here's a great resource to check some of them out: http://keypuller.com/
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

This seems nice, I really like the mint sets (Midnight, Varmilo's) and I think having it as the alpha color works nicely. Still waiting to see one that combines bright white with mint. :)

If done right it would look nice, but the bright colors combined might have a legend visibility issue.

Mint and white as base colors with very dark green legends wouldn't have any contrast issues and might still look pretty sweet.

Haha it's all good.  I just really like the mint and gray scheme.  I'd also love a set with light blue/white alphas with black/light blue modifiers.

Well the interest check is live on PMK.  Hopefully it hits 100 votes.  I'll buy a few kits for myself.
