Hi guys! As CA66 is also having an IC, we would like to bring you our first TKL design to TKL lovers which we already held a GB in TW and CN. Doppio.
199183-0199185-1

Doppio is Italian, which shares the same meaning of "Double" in English. Refers to the top dual layers visual effect we want to perform.
We tried to make Doppio simple, but look exquisite with neat lines and rounded corners. No brass weight or anything else which is luxury.

We came up with this design first on March: https://www.instagram.com/p/BgEFFRMBCDI
And then our first prototype was out in a month later: https://www.flickr.com/photos/149475414@N03/albums/72157667528136238
199187-2199189-3199191-4

This version with name plate was made for modding with a stock membrane wireless keyboard.
Now we give it some changes, to make it a wire version.

Here are some renders:
199193-5199195-6199197-7199199-8
199201-9199203-10199205-11199207-12
199209-13199211-14199213-15199215-16

We put indicators in and made a trick of them, according to the concept "layer by layer".
And removed the name plate, engraved the Doppio name above arrow keys.

Case Features:
  • 6063 aluminum
  • Top housing (WK & WKL)
  • Bottom firm plate (PC bot plate would be an option for RGB underglows. Will make it thicker than alu one for visible from bottom)
  • Switch plate (brass plate option prob)
Color Options:
  • Case colors: dark grey, white, grey blue, dark red, rose gold, army green
  • Switch plate colors: black, silver, red, blue, gold
PCB Features:
  • White pcb, gold pads
  • South facing led orientation
  • USB C interface
  • QMK firmware
  • WKL 7u layout (would add ISO in if needed)
  • RGB underglow
  • indicators between ESC and F1
Price:
  • 245USD for all colors
  • (other parts options to be decided)
We already have a schedule to make some (probably 20) for first round. If someone is interested in it, shipping would be quite fast as it's only anodizing left.
Price won't be too high since we were not aiming on that but try to make it more affordable. But still need some time to make a conclusion.

Color options are still holding (CA66 colors can be references). Just want to show this one to you guys first to have some feedbacks. ;)
But we really hope that we can bring white color to Doppio by using electrophoresis, here's a sample of it:
199217-17

As always, feel free to ask anything! :thumb:
Thanks.

2018.7.5 updates some renders without logo and moves it to bot plate.
199377-18199379-19199391-20199381-21

2018.7.6 Polycarbonate bot plate renders update, for the RGB underglow.
It would be 2mm thicker than alu plate for capable of seeing the RGB effects.
199475-22199477-23

2018.7.7 Put in ISO layout. WK and WKL version renders both been remade.
199567-24199569-25

2018.7.27 White color pics updated, by electrophoresis. The case was a failed CA66 case.
200676-26200678-27200680-28

2018.8.2 New renders are up. You will be able to see all case colors and plate colors. Brass plate and PC bot plate are also available.
201248-29201250-30201252-31201254-32201256-33201258-34201260-35201262-36

2018.8.11 Sample pics of white color updated. Shot by factory and a mobile phone.

Looks dopeo

The elevated front face reminds me of the F&T 1916, which is also being IC'd atm.

Thanks. I've check it and it also looks nice.
We might came up with this idea a bit quicker, but no bothers. ;)

Probably around 240USD, then piles up with additional parts options if you need them.  :D

Looks interesting! Is the logo on the top right mandatory, or can we get the print screen / scroll lock / pause keys there instead?

I'm curious why you chose 6063 AL vs the more common 6061?

EDIT: More common for machining purposes, to clarify.

I like the price and the angle and the design. I'd also vote for win keys and the upper right key cluster rather than a logo.

Probably not. We prefer to come up with a new design if we want to bring wireless up again. ;)

Wow, very nice price. What's the angle on the board?

It's pretty similar to a Leopold FC750R without those two raisers open, which is a comfortable and stressless angle imo when I type on it.

Wire version does not have that logo plate. It's back to normal with 3keys. ;)

We'll see how many people is discussing it then add that option. :D

6063 performs better when anodizing. I had the same doubt as you when discussing with the factory. :p

Yeah no logo will be there. It'll be look like those new renders. :thumb:

that actually looks promising. I may be inclined to purchase just a pcb if ever it is offered.

Kind of hard. If you are talking about Kailh hotswappable socket, it doesn't support multi-layouts.
We might come up with a no blockers version so that makes it even more not possible.

Thanks for liking the design. :thumb:

Soldering is easy, I only started this year and I made no mistakes on my first board. The harder part for me honestly still is still PCB programming. If it doesn't have an easy GUI interface like for KBDfans boards/DZ60 etc, I can't really figure out flashing a custom map on QMK. Most of the tutorials out there are ridiculously obtuse.

Topclack had a special where they sat for like a 2 hour live stream and learned how to use QMK from (if I remember correctly one of the devs??). I found it useful, as with a lot of other 1-2 hour tutorials. Worth your time if you want to sit and watch!

It's pretty easy, you can always get some cheap parts for practicing. :thumb:

Most people need those 3 keys according to feedbacks. So we put them back.

Yeah, the silver would be similar to CA66's. If you want it whiter you can just pick up a white one. :thumb:

I'm not a big fan of logos above the arrow cluster, but I understand your desire to advertise your product. If you must keep it there then you must, but I would definitely prefer to have a clean area above the keycap cluster.

Consider me interested. I look forward to how this IC turns out.

Thanks for the understanding. We actually put a lot effort into modifying the logo and it's shape and size.
We are pretty happy of how it looks at the moment.
The engraving depth would be 0.25mm to 0.03mm which won't be not that obvious to see. ;)

Switch top opening plate is not stable imo. I did like it before until I found my switches crooked when soldering. :(

Will think about it.
The logo font was designed to match the concept dual layer as you can see.
It would be look similar to our numpad which also shares the same engraving depth. Not so deep:

Expected to see you here. :D

Matrix is one of our keyboard design idols, and I buy their keebs myself.
We like how Abel looks with it's top housing covering to the bottom, and that's the only inspiration. No other things included.
It'll be an honor for ourself to come up with some same concepts with them. (our designer like how exquisite rounded shape shows than squared shaped.)

We'll come up with other unique design in the future. Thanks for comment. :thumb:

The new render is nice! Though if you want to put the logo in the top piece its fine, just mind the sizing and spacing, and of course its font. Because the previous rendition of the logo on the top too big and spacing is off, gave away the clean look

looks great! gives the logo plenty of room to shine, and keeps the top nice and clean.

Love your comment so much! :-*

The new render is nice! Though if you want to put the logo in the top piece its fine, just mind the sizing and spacing, and of course its font. Because the previous rendition of the logo on the top too big and spacing is off, gave away the clean look

That's the old version for a GB in TW. We remove it for this upcoming one. :thumb:

+1 to  the new render. I don't mind logos but I like the top to be generally pretty clean.

6063 performs better when anodizing. I had the same doubt as you when discussing with the factory. :p

Interesting! Today I learnt!
Current Projects:
- SouthPad -- Left-handed Numpad
- Full Split (Currently on hold)

Polycarbonate bot plate renders update. It would be 2mm thicker than alu one, for the RGB underglow.
