Love the koyu! I'd have to grab a 2nd job to keep up with these releases.  Hopefully the stabs work out cause I'll be getting some of those.  Also, if a TKL is in the works I should probably start saving now  :))

Sorry if it's been asked before

My body (or bank account) is ready.

Just wondering, do we have to use transparent switches in order for the LED's to shine through?

Most definitely. Switches like regular Cherries only have tiny holes for the LED leads to go through. I doubt you’d get a significant amount of light through those. You’ll either want a fully transparent switch or an opaque bottom that has an SMD cutout with a transparent top.

Ah I see, so that limits my switch options quite a bit. It's kind of a shame since most switches with transparent housings tend to sound a bit worse.

I've used regular, non-transparent switches in a backlit RGB board in the past and no light comes through.

This may have been addressed already, but what's the deal with the Box Royals? I've been seeing a lot of discussions surrounding the tolerance levels of the box stems, cracking/stretching key caps, etc. It doesn't look like they've managed to fix the issues yet. I am going to be putting my most prized key caps on the M60 so if there's any chance at all that these switches are going to cause any damage whatsoever, I'll find new switches to put on it.

Which leads me to my next question.. I know it's largely personal preference, but what are considered to be the "best" switches these days? I'm considering Zealios/Zilents but am also thinking maybe about the normal Cherry MX Brown RGB's. Thoughts?

I never thought about this.. What clicky switches exist with transparent bottoms? I heard the box switch issue still hasn't been fixed either.

Off the top of my head, you could most likely find or make the following RGB clicky switches in my order of preference:
Kailh heavy pale blue
Kailh pro light green
aristotle stem in a clear housing (could use aliaz, zeal, otemu ice) would put these higher up but I hate having to add plastic wrap to the stems to keep the keycaps from falling off
Cherry blue
Kailh speed gold
Gateron blue
Kailh blue

Cherry RGB version of most of their switches:
http://www.epathbuy.com/product/cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

You would probably have to do a spring swap in the blue if you wanted greens (putting a heavier spring in the blue housing)

Gateron smd bottoms that would let a lot of light through:

Non-box Kailh switches that are RGB compatible:

Thank you for the reply. I was looking at the RGB compatible Kailh switches but was not sure if they would work as the bottom housing is still opaque. Am i misunderstanding? the LED is near the bottom of the switch. Or does diffusion only happen in the tops and not the bottoms?

Also, Kailh with the pro stems have no report of cracked stems right?

The bottom of the switch has what is basically a window (where the LED would be below) that allows the light to travel up/through. Not every switch has this but the ones pixelpusher listed do. You can see this in the pictures of the switch.  :thumb:

Hey! The BOX Royals we are supplying are with the new adjusted stem :) We received an entire batch of the old stem design that we had to replace.

As for best switch, absolutely right that it's largely personal but my current favourite is Aliaz Silent Tactiles, been using them for the past few months and loving it!

The new adjusted stems (with the revised/smaller nubs), while better, are reportedly still problematic. I'm not sure how many people have issues vs how many do not, but the latest round of "fixed" stems are  supposedly causing stress fractures in some keycaps, which over time could crack completely, or at the very least, cause the keycaps to not fit other stems correctly anymore. There was a decent amount of drama in various MD drop discussions that seems to have died down recently.

This is the discussion on GH I just finished reading through as well.

Something definitely to be wary of, I haven't personally had any issues on my end.

Definitely check the Aliaz out! There's something about them I really like  ;D

---

ALSO! As we'll be shipping in a few weeks, could everyone please check that the shipping address they have used is correct? And, if you haven't included a phone number in your order, please reply to your order confirmation email with the one! DHL Express requires a phone number, so it would be best to include it! I didn't realise at the time that I had not made it compulsory at checkout :( But yes, please reply direct to order confirmation, both for adding a phone number and changing your address (this is important as it'll be added to our ticketing system!) If there's no need for any changes and everything is correct, no need to reply to the confirmation email. EDIT: You will have to log in and check on your account to see if the phone number is there or not on the order, it is not included in the order confirmation email, please check before sending a support email!

Past that, thank you all for your patience! We'll let everyone know the shipping schedules once we get the stock in so we can plan accordingly. At this stage, there's not too much to update on as we wait for the freight-shipment to come in, we'll spend some time clearing the warehouse and making space for the pallets for arrival. Everything else is ready to go on our end, with the PCB's all tested and programmed! We'll have to spend a day or so packing the internal weights/extra back weights once they arrive also.

Cheers!

Hi Rama,

I just replied to the confirmation mail, sent my phone number, but I got a reply email with the title "RAMA WORKS user activation"
url is: https://ramaworks.freshdesk.com/register/(hash_here)

I am confused, because I already have a user account.
Or should I create one on https://ramaworks.freshdesk.com too?

I'm not sure how many people have issues vs how many do not, but the latest round of "fixed" stems are  supposedly causing stress fractures in some keycaps, which over time could crack completely, or at the very least, cause the keycaps to not fit other stems correctly anymore. There was a decent amount of drama in various MD drop discussions that seems to have died down recently.

This is the discussion on GH I just finished reading through as well.

I saw those Aliaz switches the other day, they look neat! I'll have to check them out. Thank you!!

Hey ! Definitely don't need to sign up for that one, that's just our support ticketing system, for some reason it automatically sends out invites. I should try and find a way to remove the need for signing up to that!

Phone number sent :o

This is the first board I've ever bought that I've had a keyset sitting unopened waiting for it to get here (GMK Camping, going to look SO hot with the sage!)
I've been whittling down my cache of cheap 60%'s, right now I've only got an AEK64 and a nice KBDfans 5* build I can't seem to let myself sell, so I'm super pumped to get another 60% back in the rotation!

Hey everyone!

The container will be docking on the 1st of November according to Port Schedules (big boats are slow!), there will be some time (about a week) for it to be cleared through customs and freighted to our warehouse. From there we'll be packing every day to ensure that we can get them out as soon as possible. I'll keep everyone updated with further news as it happens :) For now, time to clear some racking space in the warehouse..  :))
