Clear coat for Plastic?

Ive been painting plastics such as caps and cases but I've never used clear coat.
What does clear coat do and where can i buy some in canada

I've been painting keycaps and cases for a little while now and for cases a simple clear coat will work but for keycaps you will want to use a couple layers of spray on lacquer. Or, if you have the resources some 2K clear coat works really well and doesn't give you nearly as much shine as lacquer does.

I was making some custom cap for fun a little bit with waterslides. Mostly impossible to find language sets for some friends. Obviously that isn't so durable so I used some Vallejo matte acrylic varnish. It's made for miniatures for like tabletop games and stuff so it's fairly durable. You should be able to find it at places that sell game miniatures or model kits.
As far as I know it's still holding up after more than a year since they haven't asked about redoing. They liked this better than keytop stickers anyway as far as feel.

From what I've read in the past, the instructions for that always have you put a clear coat on to protect it.
