Slightly factory lubed? Anyone care to elaborate? I guess this is not its main selling point, but there are not many factory lubed switches around. That would make it even smoother than stock Gateron linears.. not? Shouldn't that make it quite special in itself, like Tealios with the sound of retooled Cherrys, but with a price point below Cherrys? Missing something?

And second, any disadvantage if I still wanted to lube it with something else?

I want to know about this too. Is this simply Gateron Yellows with a different housing?
I've used Gateron Yellows before and I didn't enjoy how stiff the switch felt. I enjoyed using he Tealios though. Is this switch somewhere in between?

Almost all switches are slightly factory lubed. Typically on the legs of the stem.

As mgsickler mentioned, most switches are lubed - but we specifically asked for the same amount as Gateron Yellows - which is very slight (and inconsistent in Gat yellows...) This will still allow for lubing of your own, right on top of it without having to remove it - it's that slight.

The sound signature will be similar to cherry nylon housings, if not identical. I can't recall which exact nylon composition cherry uses, but these will be Nylon 66 - which should produce that deep clack sound signature that black housings are known for.

Thanks for both answers. That was new to me, and it eases my bad conscious of using (right now) and always having been satisfied with "unlubed" Tealios.. I guess the rumor of Tealios being stock lubed (a little) was then true after all..

Weekly numbers update! Soon only one week to go.

Mykeyboard: 13k
KBDFans: 7,2k
Novelkeys: 20k

Over double MOQ sold, and I suspect that sales will pick back up towards the end of the GB (as per usual in GBs!).

Hype!

The housing is the same as the new retooled cherry blacks, right? I'm just wondering if it will also reduce the typical gateron wobble?

Sorry, but I can't confirm either. I do not know what exact nylon composition cherry uses, but these switches will be nylon 66. As for wobble, I can't tell without samples I'm afraid.

Perhaps about the wobble too - I know running a GB based on color is different from fixing and tweaking the housing mold, but I’m just hoping.

Hello Everyone,

The GB purchase period has concluded, with the following numbers:
KBDFans: 19150 sold
Mykeyboard.eu: 18090 sold
NovelKeys: 35000 sold

Grand total 72240. This number is insane, I was thinking we would struggle to even reach MOQ of 20k.

We now move on to purchasing the switches and production, I will keep you up to date as always with any update!

It's the power of the memes. I predict an onslaught of blue frankenswitches in the time to come. ;)

Also, Gat Yellow smoothness, Gateron nylon housings... there's a lot of interesting things going on with this switch. Really looking forward to it.

I have also asked for Gateron to show me samples of the plastic before massproduction, to make sure it is according to the pantones. It won't be perfect as I can't inspect in person, but yeah - better than hoping in the blind. :D

Is this using the same magic spring as gat yellow? Or just similar in bottom out?

While in contact with Gateron, I only specified gold plated spring with the desired bottom out weight - so I do not know if it's the same as a Gateron yellow or not I'm afraid.

Most springs are measured at bottom out, and cN will equal what you understand as "g".
Gram is not a correct term of measuring force, it is a weight - centinewton is a more correct term when speaking about force. :)

I'm no spring expert, but do gateron yellows not have some special property where they're perfectly linear and everything else is a bit exponential (or the other way around, I don't remember specifics beyond the fact it's unique)

Hmm, I am not aware of such a feature - but I do know people hunt for Gateron yellow springs and harvest them for their linears. Maybe someone with a bit more details can fill us in!

Update:
The 25th (tomorrow) Gateron will ship me sample switches using DHL Express, so let's hope I get them fast. I asked for some photos, but this might be better. I will make sure to give some thorough feedback here once I get them.

Payment is underway, to my understanding no vendor has paid yet but Gateron has their information for invoicing and vendors are in touch with Gateron. I will let you know whenever any development happens on that end.

It's more the slope of the force curve.

So it has a higher preload with lower spring coefficient. I can see how that would feel "more linear" to some people.

Ok, so Gateron send me images of the samples they were about to send me, and unfortunately I didn't like it.

It could be a bedroom condition type of thing, but it doesn't seem to match pantones, and also, it's plate mount.

It could be poor photos, but it seems too extreme in the colors (too bright).

Gateron offered to make new samples, but it'll take a week. I rather delay with a week and have this one limited production run done right, than rush it and disappoint everyone (mostly ourselves in the Swedish community).

Sorry, and let's hope the new samples are on point!

Completely agreed, those look like Little Tykes switches, way too saturated. Waiting patiently for new samples.

I don't want a Necro on our hands, I will be sending sample switches to two Swedes that have access to the whole Pantone catalogues for both to double (literally) check the colors. One of them has access to good photography equipment too, I will be sure to update.

Photos are by gateron, not in my posession yet. They were set to ship today, but I rejected it based on photos. Gateron has acknowledged that they're too bright and saturated, and will tone them down and make them darker in accordance to pantones. Also, they will make them PCB mount.

  • That's what I call, a Sunday.

Why do I want a Run of Gateron "Fisher-Price" Switches now?....lol

I don't want a Necro on our hands, I will be sending sample switches to two Swedes that have access to the whole Pantone catalogues for both to double (literally) check the colors. One of them has access to good photography equipment too, I will be sure to update.
The colors are off, but how does the feel compare to what you were expecting?

Photos are by gateron, not in my posession yet. They were set to ship today, but I rejected it based on photos. Gateron has acknowledged that they're too bright and saturated, and will tone them down and make them darker in accordance to pantones. Also, they will make them PCB mount.
Ah thanks for the clarification
