What is the Salvun cap about? It’s 50 USD so I am curious what differentiates it from the novelties.

Stop partnering with Candykeys. Not because of liability issues but because of their greediness.

Why would you say that? What is that for bias thing to say? Exactly this is the type of comments we do not like to see, it only creates separation and unnecessary taking of sides, What else shows that we are greedy?

Many are asking how this cost is calculated:

Take the cost of a deskmat, we can not write it down what it is but you can guess. This is not a NK or DM set, so the manufacturing pricing is kinder to us, a lot kinder.
A deskmat weighs at around 1kg, if not more, it is a big one. From weighing the older desk-mats, it is clear. 1KG from Asia on average costs 8-11 EUR, we are not in America, they are also high volume products and not "sleekly packed"

Price of Deskmat + 9 EUR

We have import fees, we import using DHL and TNT, so they will correctly place the Deskmat under a HS Code of Rubber. We can not do anything about it, Shirts from TKC land under the same style fee, so do plastic pellets that we import for our own plastic injection molding. This ranges from experience to be around a 15% tax, that we do not get back, as it is a so to say import "fine" on rubber. AKA, we are looking at a further price increase of (Deskmat + 9 EUR * 1,15) - Not to mention that we ignore the 25 EUR import set fee, and then there SOMETIMES is a financing fee for the import depending on the courier, which is 2.5%

Keyboards, Switches, Electronics do not fall under this import fee.

You are stuck at that price, now you have a 19% tax on sales, which USA does not have (they also have half the shipping price (woo economy!) and they have no import fees (love China)), so lets say 30 EUR sales price is 30/1,19=25,00 EUR
You have free shipping to all common EU countries above 50,00 EUR, so that is easily -10 EUR for our half, while the nice guys you mentioned have shipping costs for countries.
AND we are also not counting in 1-3% Credit Card + PayPal fees in that price, forget designer fees, any profits for anyone here with such price sadly.

Does this put the price into perspective?
GMK Apollo Base pricing is priced so that its non-profit (legal amount before the commerce authorities knock on our door for underpricing) until a much higher quantity, so there is also no designer profit there, and we are working on those for free unless we hit a certain MOQ.

Other products that people might think as being expensive are: RAMA Keys (full under Aluminium in Import), KBDFans Kits, NK Deskmats (Manufacturing Price is 3x as high) and possibly some other small things.

If you want to take this up further then please e-mail personally at support@candykeys.com as GH is really hard to follow at times.
Thanks
David

I was just talking about the deskmats because they are way, way higher than at any other EU proxy.
So in the end it's a German customs thing again, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Will the 2.00 blank keycap work on a 2U left-shift key with stabilizers? Also, if not, is it possible to include that in this order? I just placed an order for a ton of keycaps, but if there's no 2U shift, I'll definitely be pulling out.

Awesome numbers everyone! Thanks for the support so far, means the world. Group buy for US at least will conclude at midnight tonight PST, so get those orders in whilst you can. The EU will follow suit and should conclude tomorrow morning. Most other vendors should follow suit.
Thanks :)

Any timeline on when you will get color samples?

Currently, it's a very awkward situation. I had the color samples shipped to GMK around 3 months ago directly from me. Subsequently, due to COVID, they were placed on sea freight 1 month later. Upon learning of this I decided the best option would be to order a second set of samples to ensure fast delivery. These were shipped Pantone US to a US address via 'MyUS', a parcel forwarding company. From this, they send it over to Germany via DHL directly. Last week I received an email directly from them notifying me that the parcel was lost in their headquarters in the US and they are currently looking to resolve this situation. I may end up ordering a 3rd batch of samples very soon if I don't hear back from them!
I am doing everything I can, but due to shipping, COVID, and downright luck, the samples are yet to arrive.
But, I am confident we will be able to approve colors quickly to ensure the sets ship when GMK first said they would. Sorry for the confusion of this, if anyone has questions about anything, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to keep as transparent as possible.
On another note, the deskmats are finishing production today and will be sent to all vendors subsequently. Most should ship in around 1 month from now if everything goes to plan!

Don't feel pressured to deliver on time, I'm sure most would prefer a well matched set over one that arrived earlier, plus we all understand delays were inevitable with COVID-19. Thanks for the update / transparency.

Hi, I will work to release a version that will be available for personal use e.g. Wallpapers. I just want to minimize the risk of stealing and people reproducing the mats.

Any updates on the RAMA keys?

They have been produced and shipped to vendors as far as I know. I know DeskHero has gotten theirs, but as for the other vendors, I'd keep updated on their socials!

Deskmats are shipped separately only if you ordered them separately (so thus paying for shipping for them individually)

Hey there!
Yes, there are some updates. So far RAMA's and deskmats have all been produced and shipped, some still waiting to get to vendors. As for the caps themselves, its been fairly slow-moving and nothing really to update. I know GMK is still matching up colors as the problems with shipping resulted in this being delayed, so samples should arrive shortly. I'll keep you all posted when I hear what's happening.
As for the question regarding deskmats, as LightningXI stated, Deskmats are shipped separately only if you ordered them separately. However I know some vendors will wait until the caps come to ship your deskmat.
Thanks for the support.

R1 color samples have arrived from GMK!

My initial thoughts after I've had some time to look and think is that the mod and accent color are pretty spot on (Cool Gray 2C and 4140C).
As for the Alpha color, GMK sent two as they were custom colors they did in the past which came fairly close to the color (431C), I feel like they don't come very close to matching up with the color sample I did send in. It definitely is missing that blue-ish hue, and I'll let them know this.

Thank you all for your patience and support, it's been very tough with all these COVID hiccups in the process.
I'll keep you updated when I have anything new.

Stay safe!

The actual buy is long over, but once the sets are produced and sent to the customers the vendors will list extras which you could buy then. But there will only be a limited amount available so you need to be fast if you dont want to pay aftermarket prices.

Octix,

Would you ever think about running this same set in KAT profile sometime after this ships out? The colors look like they could translate well into PBD, and KAT is where it's AT.

I did grab this set when it ran, but am finding myself much preferring KAT to GMK lately.

Really disappointed with GMK Apollo.  I should have payed more attention to the modifier lengths and what keeb I was planning for it.
I assumed that it would have more than 2 1.25u Novelty keys, but I was wrong.
I am also disappointed with the quality.  The legends are very crisp, but the manufacturing marks on the back and underside of the keys are really rough.  I have $30 Chinese key caps that do a better job.

Not every key is this bad, only some, but for $200, I feel like they should not have a saw tooth edge.

Every key has this manufacturing defect.  Most key sets I have also have a similar bump, but they are on the bottom, not the back.  I have a prime_e, and I use 2 keys flipped backwards (backspace and space bar), so I have these defects staring at me.  If it was a less pricey set I would not mind, but for the price (and the almost 2 year wait) I was expecting more.

Sorry to hear about the quality of yours.  I checked my sets and some of the caps do have burr on the inside but I was able to rub or remove it with my nail.  They are well enough made but poorly finished, most likely due to GMK time pressures.  They need to watch their quality and I agree that some of my so called 'cheap' caps like Infinikey are very well made and finished, they are also properly packaged.

Irrespective of the caps, your build looks superb BTW, +1 for the KeyCult as well.

Those aren't manufacturing defects.
They are spruemarks from the molds and they are completely normal for doubleshot keycap sets.
And there's no way to get rid of them since the doubleshot manufacturing process requires them.

The reason that they are on the bottom of some cheaper sets is because those are usually dyesub PBT.
On dyesub caps the location of the mold sprue doesn't matter. For doubleshot it does.

And honestly:
A rough underside of the keycap is not a quality indicator.
Nobody is going to look under his keycaps...

I wouldn't call this a defect - Cherry and GMK have always produced keycaps like this, from original Cherry doubleshots, early GMK sets, to modern sets.  The doubleshotting process that GMK uses looks slightly different than Chinese manufactures that use a larger inner piece to fit into the surrounding keycap.  The plastic piece used for the font on GMK is smaller and inner walls aren't as separated.  I guess that doesn't matter since GMK has more consistent legends than any Chinese keycap set I've seen.

The underside of my car looks rough. Its not as nice as the top.
Also, I like to drive in reverse but am limited to only one gear that drives in that direction. I'm very disappointed.

Not every key is this bad, only some, but for $200, I feel like they should not have a saw tooth edge.

Show Image

Every key has this manufacturing defect.  Most key sets I have also have a similar bump, but they are on the bottom, not the back.  I have a prime_e, and I use 2 keys flipped backwards (backspace and space bar), so I have these defects staring at me.  If it was a less pricey set I would not mind, but for the price (and the almost 2 year wait) I was expecting more.

Apollo extras for US customers will go live: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 @ 11AM PDT via. Mekibo

You can purchase multiple kits, but only 1 of each. e.g: 1 novelty, 1 base

Good luck all!

I got a response from Candykeys for those waiting on ortho kits. They told me they were only sent a very limited number of ortho sets, and they are aware kits are missing from orders. They're working to resolve the issue now.
waiting for ortho kit yet...

Received my set and it looks great. I'd attach a pick of them on my Rukia r2, but... maybe holding your breath for that isn't the best option.  :))

Too scared to order from Candy Keys, so probably will have to skip this one :(

Should have listened to my gut feeling, lmao. So bad.

@octix I assume you working hard to find a solution for the people who ordered 40s kits that seem to be missing?

Any updates? I’m still waiting for my 40s kit unfortunately. I might as well ask for a refund as it doesn't fill me with confidence this will be solved. I'm still waiting 6 months after GB has shipped, lol.
Am I the only one who ordered 40s kit from Candy Keys?
