[Design collecting/brainstorming/IC] Stickers !!
« on: Tue, 19 June 2012, 13:55:09 »
Hi,

What are your thoughts about running a GB to get some custom stickers made ?
Those stickers can then be used to decorate your laptop/keyboard, or anything else that comes into your mind ! ( CM storm user are probably interested :P)

But first, we need designs and ideas ! Of course the theme will be keyboards/mechkeyboards/geekhack !

I'll list some of my ideas, in the hope it will create some sort of brainstorming and we end up with some totally awesome idea/design !

- Obligatory Geekhack logo, and maybe a Geekhack member sort of thing !
- some set with the major brands? (but there are probably some copyright issues on those) and of course some derivates like « official filco fanboy » or other variants !
- « Clicky keyboards fan »
- Some sort of « Cherry MX blue user »/ « Buckling spring user » / etc… you get the idea.
- « Owned by a badass keyboard addict ! »

Let's see if this community is able to come up with something awesome !

In the end, the logos created could still be used as signature/avatar/wallpaper/whatever, if they don't make it to a sticker !

Some ideas that just popped into my mind:

Imitating the tobacco warning labels: « Mechanical keyboards are extremely addicting and can be hazardous for your wallet »

« I'm a mechanical keyboard, ask my owner if you want to try me ! » logo to spread the holy message !

Some sort of pejorative sticker intended to be ninjasticked on other (non-mechanical) keyboards ! Or maybe anti-gamer message?

Are we talking keyboard stickers, bumper stickers and/or nail stickers?
I wouldn't mind a sticker or twenty for my keyboards.

keyboard sized? rknize was thinking maybe those vinyl stickons that are removable? my original thought was that we should make something that can cover all the ugly  company logos on *ahem* some of the newer cherry boards

Stickers that will fit on the outside frame of a keyboard. Stickers that will fit poker and Filco and choc mini etc. Just like I've seen someone use the small ish cherry sticker from some Korean group buy.
Can't be bothered to find the image while in my phone, but will find it when I get to a computer.

Edit: Like this (picture stolen from keiserreich over at dt)

Sticker robot makes great quality stickers. But they are pricey.

Since it's a kawa idea, I disagree with it!!!

I would be down for some small stickers for keyboard body/spacebar like the Cherry ones also. Just do the typewriter text logo and call it good.

Is there something simpler we can use?  I'd like to do something like the Cherry badge, so we can stick it in front of the keyboard or between the home and arrow cluster.

hash sent me some cool logos a while ago. let me dig some of them up..

sticker robot has MOQ of 250 for rectangulars, but for small 1.5x1.5-ish sizes is pretty reasonably, maybe 80$ for a batch?

I looked into this awhile ago and it is definitely doable and should be done. There are even places that will make stickers out of metal which are quite cool.

here are a couple of options for an initial order. you'll recognize these as variations on the logo we use for the wiki, courtesy hashbaz :D

1102-0

1103-1

i'm partial to trying #1 initially as it can go almost anywhere and it should be super cheap to print even with stickerrobot

ok it looks like i can get 500 copies of the first image made at about a 1"x2" size for 90$ on stickerrobot. this is printed on clear vinyl so the image background will be transparent. that should fit pretty much every spot on a keyboard case i can think of putting a sticker on.

hash can generate this image at 600dpi (or whatever the highest res they'll take is) with any color combination we want. here are the ones he's already generated.

I like the old geekhack logo we used on the backspaces.  Any interest in using that logo on a chrome finished sticker? (I.e. like the cherry sticker)

Something like this would be sweet, imo it would look awkward having "fake" caps on a board full of em.

I'm not a huge fan of this^^, personally.  Nor of the wavy version that was printed on Backspaces a while back.

For my keyboards a Cherry logo or subdued GH logo would be awesome.  For things other than keyboards, I like the Cherry font mockups I gave mkawa and/or
MMB's banner.

Yeah, someone will need to clean it up.  I legit just cut out the letters from hash's Cherry font images and slapped em together lol.  I figured when we do the final design, stickerrobot will allow us to choose any color finishing anyway...

I was hoping for stickers similar to the chrome finished 'Cherry' ones posted earlier.  I want to place them above the arrow cluster or in front where the Filco badge normally would be.  So whether that's a sticker or a xfer decal, I have no idea =)

It is a transfer decal (also known as applique)... like dealerships put on the back of cars or people put on windows.
