Ghost in the Shell SAC is pretty cool.
Hellsing is a good short anime.
Elfin lied was brilliant if you can see past the explicit content.

I am currently on the end of Soul Eater which has been an alright series.

I've watched hundreds of anime series in the past few years, but not recently.  I stopped about 4-5 years ago because there really just wasn't anything to watch anymore....

Series (plus my awesome commentary)
  • Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (KGNE): Drama love story.  What more could you ask for?
  • Shingetsu Tsukihime:  Think, anime version of Twilight, but not as lame.
  • Onegai Sensei:  Nice boobs, alien love story.  It's good.
  • BECK (manga too):  Music rock band anime, awesome.
  • Honey & Clover I & II:  Slice of life, hipster anime.
  • Cowboy Bebop / Samurai Champloo:  Same producers, both awesome story lines.  Field of Mary Jane sets on fire!
  • Code Geass I & II:  Amazing, amazing story.
  • Full Metal Panic series:  Super high quality animation, and nice boobs.
  • Mushishi:  Stories of life, get lifted and watch this...lots of lessons to be learned
  • Love Hina:  One of my original favorites
  • Full Moon wo Saga****e:  Singing drama, really nuts
OAV
  • Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal:  The Original Gangsta
  • FLCL:  Goofy, silly, and overall fun stuff
Movie (huge Miyazaki fan)

  • Princess Mononoke:  epic story
  • My neighbor Totoro:  must watch classic
  • Spirited Away:  my first anime movie, blown away
  • Ghost in the Shell:  super amazing quality
  • Grave of the Fireflies:  really really sad bro.
  • 5CM:  probably the best drawn landscapes I've ever seen in anime
  • Ah! My Goddess:  no homo
  • Akira:  classic
Soundtrack
  • Initial D (all stages)
  • Bleach: uverworld is nice
  • Samurai Champloo:  good catch naranja

Ghost in the Shell series soundtracks are very good too.

I'm on and off Anime.  I've been back into it a bit the past few years since I got Netflix/Roku.  Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

  • Robotech/Macross - saw the former on TV as a kid and the latter many years later when Harmony Gold released the remastered DVDs.  Pretty much how I got into anime, but it's very '80s by todays standards.  For other "children of the 80s," hidden on a shelf in my shop lurks Jetfire.  :D
  • Bubblegum Crisis - liked both the original and the reboot
  • Serial Experiments Lain - pretty cool in it's day
  • Ghost in the Shell - the movies and SAC series.  Saw 2.0 too.
  • Ah! My Goddess - I have no idea why I liked this, but I kind of did.  Maybe it was just the fan service.  Pretty cheesy, but funny.
  • Coyboy Bebop - got blown away by this.  Was the reason of a former anime rekindling.
  • Full Metal Alchemist - the orig was great.  I can't figure out Brotherhood.  Seems like the same thing but modernized.
  • Angel Beats - I was surprised by this one, too.  Strange, but quite good.  Some of the comedy had me laughing harder than any other anime I can think of.
  • Mushishi - a little slow, but interesting in a Spirited Away kind of way
  • Bleach - started watching this out of boredom and got hooked.  Watched the whole thing and the movies (whew).
  • Darker then Black - this was going places.  Hope it continues.

Other Movies...mainly obvious ones:
  • Princess Mononoke
  • Spirited Away
  • Akira

I've started a bunch of other ones but didn't get into them.

Code Geass is too dark imo.

I believe too it's better written, but his darkness just makes it less enjoyable for me.

i've watched a lot of mostly everything, it's better to list what i don't watch which is mostly magical girl/fan service ecchi types.

current best recommended anime to watch is

accel world. You can catch it on hulu (actually hulu has the anime faster than sub groups every friday) it's a 26 eps series, i think it's up to 16? now (fiance and i are waiting till it finishes, since it's so good, we're tired of waiting week to week)

another good anime recommendation from last season is "another" a great suspense anime. Really anime has been very few slim pickings for a few years/seasons take these 2 recommendations. (you can still catch another on hulu)

guess it depends on what you want from an anime, i want/like a great story characters, while this can be had from ecchi/fan service sometimes it just leans in that direction so much something has to suffer. I guess in a way i'm stigmatizing and classifying it "bleh i won't watch it, it's gonna deterrioate" into crap sooner or later. Doesn't help that fiance' is tired of it also. It'd be different if the ecchi/fan service worked well with the series and it was good story wise/character wise but usually i just see the animes lean way too much into it that it overshadows any hope of a good story. (which is fine, just something i'm not looking for)

Can't really input much on anime more than anyone above, its been years since I've cared for watching a series versus reading the manga. Although loved the animation styling of Bakemonogatari. Still haven't seen it's sequel, but someday.
Gotta say, out of anything related to all this, manwha is where it's at. Shame that some of the best series aren't animated. Maybe someday, and I'll get back into the anime scene.

I'd like to think Ghibli themed caps would bring some interest. My neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Ponyo, etc etc.

You know what would be sweet? Goku doing a kamekameha across the spacebar. Him on one side, and Vegeta on the other or something. Saw something like that on deskthority with street fighter characters. But it may have just been shopped on the keys.

I've watched the following recently which I can highly recommend:

Clannad
Toradora
Noein
Steins;Gate
Genshiken

I, myself, have watched a ton of anime (and still do) over the years. A lot of the new stuff is pretty bad, but there are usually one or two good anime in a season with maybe 1 really outstanding anime every year or two that's a must watch. Steins;Gate was really awesome and I highly recommend it - the first episode can be confusing, but there's a reason for that and it all makes sense at the end (get the OVA as well to have a nice wrap up to the story).

Also, Genshiken is awesome too. It takes the otaku culture and makes it into an anime, rather successfully, which is both interesting and hilarious at the same time. I really love the cosplay parts in it too!

I've seen quite a lot. can't name them all. If you dun mind Shonen Jump style animes (like Bleach, Naruto, One Piece),

I would say, One Piece is the BEST anime out there now.
It's really really long. more than 500 episodes. but great story, great characters, and great anime to time kill especially during holidays lol.
Fairy Tail is also good too.

These are some of animes that i really enjoyed watching:

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)
One Piece
Fair Tail
Onegai Teacher & Onegai Twins
Durarara
Code Gears
Eureka Seven
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Azumanga Daioh
Hellsing
FLCL (this is sooooooooooooo random)
Oran High school Host Club

can't think of any now...

I was never much of an Anima fan. The old Looney Tunes are my favorite cartoons out there.
