last el-p stuff i got into was the cold vein beats, and even then i think cannox could have done a hell of a lot better. it's mostly the drums -- dude needs to chill on all the crazy electronica **** and lay down something in the pocket. cold vein was cool cause the MCs outshone the production but a lot of lesser MCs rap over el-p beats and it ends up sounding like something out of an anime trailer from the 90s...
i stopped watching that video as soon as i saw lil wayne.

Very much so.  I've been following since the first cd released and through the different iterations of a lot of the songs on Wish Upon a Blackstar (ex: Birthright and it's rather broad array of mixes/remixes).  It's like through the last 7 years, each flavor of the month in electronic music was slightly integrated.  But I honestly am in love with most of WUaB.

Seems like I've been on a Lacuna Coil and Nightwish kick lately.
Lots of good stuff in that genre. Sirenia has pretty much moved there, though their last 3 albums weren't that great. Epica seems good, though I've only listened to requiem for the indifferent. Nightwish (Even post tarja) is still excellent

Band - Album Name (Song Name)
Threshold - March of Progress (Don't Look Down)

---
Guys: Post the genres of music, not just a yt video. I don't have time to go look these all up on my computer with sound, and I'm afraid I might be missing out on some good stuff!

Oh really?  Johnny Cash does a Reznor song better than Reznor?  I think not.  It doesn't have the same eerie loneliness, or the dynamic rise at the end.

I want to go on record saying I disagree with both of you as, while being the same song, they aren't the same and as such shouldn't be judged against one another.  I'm not the only one to have this opinion either:

via Alt Press #184 Sept 2004
When Trent Reznor was asked if Cash could cover his song, Reznor said he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video.
“   I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. [I felt like] I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore... It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure

Drunkship of Lanterns by The Mars Volta. I really like this song, even though none of the lyrics make sense.

Otherwise I'm on a huge Pearl Jam kick. Yellow Ledbetter is a great song.

It's a good song.

I'm still going to make fun of it.  It's like someone heard a rough edit and went "Ok, it's a broken heart song, the kids today don't "get" that, so let's do something to make it more marketable.  I know!  Dubstep and samurais."

Which is what makes it the perfect song for someone like me!  Although I really couldn't give two ****s about the samurais... even though they do go along with this song quite nicely in the video.
