What did you do today?
« on: Wed, 10 July 2013, 06:41:32 »
As the title says...
Apart from your daily routine (showering, eating, working, whatever) what have you done?

I start:

After long time I decided to buy some music CDs again, but after listening through em I remembered why I stopped buying CDs back then. Half of the content was clipped and the majority of the other half had some other defects like pops, clicks or stream corruptions, there was even some weird short high frequency pulse in continuous pattern in one track which under closer inspection (checking the waveform) looked like some sort of audio watermarking. Well, long story short... As I really like the music and don't wanna see my money wasted, I spend today and yesterday manually fixing the waveforms  :))

So, what did you do today?

Took my niece to school, followed by the doctors with the girlfriend and daughter to get some bloods taken (girlfriend, not me) then went took the daughter to the park for a short while.

That's it thus far. Both gf and little one are now in bed for a bit then God knows what we'll do for the rest of the day.

Now I feel like a nap.

I woke up at 4:49 AM to my cat jumping on my chest.  I showered and dressed.  I did some Geekhackery and some job searching (like every day). The one non-standard thing I'll be doing is making a custom order cable today since the stuff came in to make it.

I got up 7 AM and cycled 50 km on my roadbike, got back , showered , took the metro to work and got there just past 9.30.

Talked to a group of colleagues about a field experiment we are planning for august, everyone liked my ideas. Win. Worked on an old paper the rest of the day, need to present it again at some point and had some things I still needed to change.

Went and met my girlfriend in the city and we ate at KFC * classy *
Then we went home and watched "Master chef Australia" which she loves for some reason, even though she does not cook.

Finally played 2 games of Dota2 Captain's mode with 4 friends and won both. I played Elder Titan in one and Night Stalker in the other. My girlfriend came in and asked me to proofread something, then got annoyed when I said I was in the middle of a game. Won the argument afterwards by saying that I am always willing to help, but it is unfair to demand that I drop whatever I am doing that very second, which she agreed with. Did my routine situps, pushups and bicep curls. Took a shower afterwards.

Then I went online and checked geekhack, which is now.

The rest of the day only includes cleaning the cat litter box and going to sleep. I might read some Hajime no ippo (manga) on my mobile phone in bed. I have trouble falling asleep. Oh damn 0:56 I need to get to bed.

Showed up to work at 7am. Put on my gas mask had to run some laps with it, that really sucks if you've never done it. Then got to my desk did a little bit of work and now I plan on doing nothing for the next 7 hours of work.

Absolutely nothing. I am trying to reverse my rhythm so that I can get a daily routine. I have been tired all the time, so the most strenous thing I have done have been to read. I have done about 250-300 pages in the past 24 hours.

I just made a large milk shake by putting in about 4 big scoops of Blue Bell strawberry ice cream and then milk.  I didn't use a blender, but I just mushed it all together with the spoon.  Darn it was so good, I'm tempted to be a pig and make another one--but I won't.

most original deed of the day: bought new wristwraps and a sleeveless shirt (more like a dress).
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I became the happiest person I know, and l completely was relieved of all depression for a while... I got back together with my ex and we watched movies all day and just like chilled and like awkwardly held my arm around her for all the movies and stuff... Legitimately smiled and had fun today, like, for the first time in a looooong time! :D

Pic for proof:  (Really low rez, sorry!)

Today I tried to wire up my SH-Gamepad, but soldering wires directly to the switch-pins didn't look that mechanically stable :/
So, I decided to desoldered all the wires and cut a bricked poker PCB into pieces the next days to sandwich it in between...

Another early gym day, then to work.

Brought in the MY-7000 board with the ultra-light switch mod and IvanIvanovich's purple modifier pack.  Also lubed the switches, which was a mistake; the remaining leaf spring barely lifts the stock keycap, adding silicone grease to it makes for some pretty sluggish keys.   :'(

I loaned it out to another manager, she wanted something not so clicky to use for notes while on conference calls.  Now I need to get her a MX Black board to try, the only one I have is ISO layout, and she hated the vertical Enter key.

And yes, I hurt.  A lot.

This week I started to code in .NET at work ... again. Damn it feels nice!

Long story short, I've been coding foxpro for like 2,5 years, then started doing .NET half my time and then had to go back full time foxpro because the foxpro team could not deliver without me. Was supposed to be temporary, lasted 2,5 years... never going back again!

We'll sales were low, but the products were well received.  I gave a lot of cards away to interested parties so we will see if any of them follow up.

It was a hard pitch - and I get it....but I was hoping I could flip a few more people.

There is still one more day tomorrow.
