Inspired by the XT and 1800 layouts the UK78 is a 60%+Numpad fully programmable keyboard.

I phrased that poorly. That is what I meant, but I want want to be able to see what the current count is as it gets closed.

I wondered about that. It's a very attractive layout for me and I would imagine for many people who's interested boards like the zz96, RS96 etc - but more compact without the Function row. Could be because it's from an unknown maker, and pricing is comparable to that of kustoms like that of TX or Ducks. Spec'ed out a board to my liking with shipping, totaled $480.

I'm curious for these as well. With the full base being so expensive I could see myself forgoing the base and feet options. Especially if the acrylic can be base layer and screw into the case without the need of feet or full bottom.

Renders have been added to the post, rubber bumpons will be included so the anodising won't be scratched.

Wow this layout will look fantastic with accent arrow keys.I believe that 8weeks is a realistic timeframe for me to receive the parts, QC them and prepare them for shipping. In regards to the PCB the issues found during prototyping were identified and fixed, I received the final PCB design that will be ordered in the GB today and so I am currently soldering and programming the board.
Only questions I have are -- please understand as it's a completely new design and a new GB -- what the level of confidence is to deliver it without much delay. In the IC thread I can still see the PCB tests are not checked so would like to know if we have fixed any issue found in the sample.

Unless we get 50 people buying the full base, I can't see how that is in any way the best economic option. The base alone is $215. Then you still need to top case and a pcb. I'd love a full base, but definitely can't justify spending an extra $130 for it over the cost of the angled feet.

Good to know, I'm looking at getting my first GMK set so I'll stick with 1.8mm!

I was having a hard time deciding between the two. I adore the Fjell, but chose the 1800. I think the extended style of the board complimented the flat edges more than the uniform Fjell style. But, they're both stunning.

They work fine with GMK caps, although they make rub up against them slightly.

As per current orders, the 1800 case is just two shy of making MOQ. If two more don't appear before the intended deadline would it be feasible to extend the ordering period for a few days to lets us who prefer the 1800 try and get a few more folks to buy that case variant?

No harm in ordering the Full Base if you want, it helps bring the MOQ closer, I am currently seeing if I can have the Full base produced at 15 rather than 20.

Plates and diffuser are made in the UK but the pcb and case are made in Shenzen and the diffuser is clear so you can see the PCB when not using the full base.

Is there an image of the default alps plate, I may have be misunderstanding the stabilizer situation. It's tricky to get keycaps for alps that are compatible with cherry pcb stabs, no? (aside from some modern taihao/granite sets, that is)
The universal alps plate is for more modern alps sets that use cherry stabs. It isn't possible to produce a universal alps plate with alps stabs due to the position of them conflicting with switch holes.

2. Will the invoice include shipping cost or there will be separate invoice for delivery after batch will be on hands?
Invoices will go out once the plate manufacturer has gotten back to me, I don't want to over/undercharge people since there were more orders than MOQ.
1. There is no benefit to invoice in USD as it needs to be converted into GBP for the majority of the manufacturers so paypal currency conversion would still happen
2. There will be a separate invoice for shipping once I have verified that the order is correct.

As much as I would love to say yes, I don't want to delay production of the cases while I sort out custom colours, your best bet would be to change your colour to silver and have it anodised at a local company.

It sucks, but you don't need to go out of your way by getting loans or anything to float the money - delays are pretty much expected anyway
I currently can get production of everything except the case and feet started now. PCBs have a lead time of 3 weeks so I would like to start manufacture of those asap.

at least you got the TLK one, I only got a 65% as originally was going to be for a subatomic but meh might get a longer one next time and see if i can sell my 65% one

Cases have been milled and are going on to anodising and sandblasting, manufacturer sent through a photo showing the sample case to show how the colour matching is and the logo engraving. The colour for the sample is Pantone 5265C and came out slightly too dark so the colours will be made lighter to get closer to the intended colour.

Only one maybe two stab positions will need tape, I have my test pcb with screw in stabs without issues.

Good News: First of all the cases are in the anodisation phase of manufacture and I am expecting to receive them in around 1 week customs and shipping dependant. I have also received all the Acrylic backpieces and Switchplates
Not so Good News: Unfortunately due to a manufacture part error with 2/3rds of the PCBs there will be a short break in sending out those boards affected ~ 1 week. The shipping order will be determined by the order in which I receive payment of shipping. To make it as fair as possible I will let everyone know the process for paying for shipping at 19:00 BST Tomorrow so everyone has a chance to see this post. You casn generade CAD with excessive edge padding (like 10mm), then edit it in the CAD editor to fit the cuts in the case or just cut it as is and the use dremel or other tool to fit (I'd recommend editing in the CAD SW though)
Of course, getting files from Roz is the easiest way.
I will have a github repo that has all the files needed to make plates or acrylic back pieces, it will also have QMK hex files of the standard ANSI and ISO layouts to help people who don't wish to create their own layout.

I have been told by the case manufacturer that they will be sending the order out by 23rd with 3-5days shipping expected transit time, so I hope to have them all arrive by early next week.
The PCBs with the incorrect components are also expected to arrive around the same time meaning that the delay between the two shipments will be ~1week while I program the pcbs and QC.

Does it affect overall performance of the PCB? If the PCB is functional in all other ways, I'd get it without RGB nonetheless.
It affected the reset switch working correctly, plus it hasn't affected the shipping time as it has been sorted before the cases arrived.

So PCBs with error are unusable as PCBs, unfortunatelly. But at least it can be used as a material for backplate. Anyway, if you don't need them, I could use one or two for my projects. I understand that I ask for more than ordered, but it's totally up to you.

Hey, If you are doing 2x 1.5 with the arrow cluster, you need to change the firmware to have the FN closest to the arrow cluster and alt gr next to the space bar, other wise it come up as alt and ctrl.

I'm unfamiliar with this firmware editor, would it be possible to set 4,5,6,8 to an arrow cluser when numlock is off? Obviously 4,6,8 would be left, right, up but I'm wondering if I can easily have 5 as down with the numlock toggle

Might be better to have the numlock be a layer toggle rather than an actual numlock

This last one, I'm not sure if it's a bit of a design flaw or if it has literally been bent during shipping - but when the base sits in the top half, the sides are flush as they should be but it bows out towards the middle, so the whole thing rocks. I can squeeze it in to be flush as it should be, but without holes to screw through nothing keeps it together. Hard to get a picture of it

I just want to say there seemed to be enough packaging, this must have taken a heavy hit. The only thing that would have prevented some damage is if each piece was individually wrapped, but my KBD75 managed to make it from China in a similar style (basically pre-assembled, then packaged) safley. Same with TX boards IIRC, so I don't blame Rozakiin

This last one, I'm not sure if it's a bit of a design flaw or if it has literally been bent during shipping - but when the base sits in the top half, the sides are flush as they should be but it bows out towards the middle, so the whole thing rocks. I can squeeze it in to be flush as it should be, but without holes to screw through nothing keeps it together. When you receive your parcel if there is no visible damage to the packaging write "not checked" next to your signature, if there is damage write "damaged in transit". This will help your case if any claims need to be addressed.

First of all, thanks for the fast GB. Can't wait to make this board as it will be my new main work board. My RS68 is awesome, but I do miss the numpad sometimes...
When it comes to packaging, the my package was quite flat, but as it had no surface damage there wasn't any real issue. But you may want to consider something to structurally enforce the packages for the rest of the shipments.
Concerning the keyboard, my PCB came with a badly aligned USB connector. It does seems like it's mostly cosmetic (the contact isn't loose or anything, and the LEDs all light up (red) when I plug it into the computer). I also tried to make sure that a cable will fit through the usb slot in the case, even with the misaligned connector, which seems to be the case. So this is mostly a heads up what to look at if/when inspecting the boards. (Not saying I wouldn't accept a replacement, just that I probably can live without one =P).

I found one screw, but another one is still missing (probably lying on the floor somewhere in my messy apartment...). If possible I would recommend you to either make sure that the screws are screwed in tight, or if you want to keep them loosly tightened because easy removal put a piece of tape over each one.

So, got my UK78 today (they actually tried to deliver it yesterday, but I was busy all day so I picked it up at the post office today). 3 day delivery to Sweden from the UK, not bad.

I agree that the boxes have not been holding up as well as I had thought so I will address this issue with the remaining orders. As for the screws the dimensions are M2 5mm for the plate and M2 8mm for the Base.

I only had a brief opportunity to check everything out. As others have said, I'd recommend taping over the plate screws to prevent them from coming loose during shipping. I believe this is what caused a couple scratches on the inside of the top case and the acrylic piece. The scratches were very minor and not visible when assembled, just letting you know for future shipments. Everything else is flawless.
Overall, extremely satisfied and cannot wait to build it this weekend. The board is beautiful! Will report back with some pictures. Thanks, Roz :D

I'll be posting pictures and more thoughts once I get it assembled and some caps arrive to show it off with.
Now to rummage through the cupboard and find my 67g Zealios...

What does compatibility with the Holtite sockets entail? The pin hole diameter on the board? Amount of clearance under the board for the length of the socket? Would there be a specific model Holtite that the UK78 would work with? I'm curious because I'm considering these myself in case my taste in switches changes later.

Assembly went well, there were some hitches when flashing QMK onto the board but managed to get it working properly in the end. It seems when you use `make uk78-keymap` and `dfu-programmer` separately the PCB gets bugged and you need to replug it a few times for it to reappear in the OS. I used `make uk78-keymap-dfu` (a few times) and it worked fine then.
Now I've run into an issue regarding typing languages: when on US ANSI my RGui works as it should, but when I switch to ISO Nordic (fi_FI) RGui disappears. Packaging is solid. The duct tape was a nice touch haha. Package wasn't abused and was well taken care of.
The board is beautiful.

Feet were all manufactured in silver unless you specifically requested a different color. It wasn't immediately apparent that this was the case, but it was stated shortly after the GB ended and he said to PM him if you wanted to change it.

Just to be transparent with everyone, the "Extra" is actually my personal kit that I can no longer afford to keep rather than traditional extra stock from cancelled orders or group buy funds. I understand your justified annoyance at me posting to mechmarket, I did have the intention to trade if something interesting came up but nothing did.
My intention is to sell the kit once I have the final orders sent off and all costs for this GB totalled (couple of weeks).

That's certainly not what I heard/saw, but I don't think it really matters. It's only one case, so even if you do intend to sell it, chances are slim that I'll get my hands on it. Unfortunately I won't continue to actively chase this case around, but I will definitely create some mechmarket posts over the next couple weeks if anyone is interested in letting theirs go. I've got a few things for trade, like a purple Klippe case and a Northern Lights Fugu, but would prefer to buy for paypal $$$. :)

I recommend reading through https://docs.qmk.fm/ The two things to edit your layout are, to know how to compile the firmware and edit the keymap(mostly editing text in keymap.c)

So this is the first board I've bought that doesn't have a configurator for dummies. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get started on programming the board.
I found the github page and the instructions on how to setup the build environment but I'm kind of lost after that. I'm sure someone has written a tutorial or similar that I can follow.

In Step 2, as an alternative you can also install Linux Subsystem for Windows https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/ (https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/) instead of msys2. Then run util/wsl_install.sh to install all of your dependencies. It attempts to install dfu-programmer automatically as well, which might let you skip running the .exe in Step 3.
As you stated in Step 4, running "make" in the root folder is important. I kept trying to run it in the uk78 folder and banged my head against the wall because it wasn't working haha.
Just a few extra thoughts from my failures. I've yet to try flashing, so I'll definitely be following your instructions for that. Thanks again for the guide!

Could this be related to the bootmagic firmware setup which was fixed earlier in the QMK repo, Rozakiin? I'm flashing the fixed version right now, hoping it fixes this issue aswell.
EDIT: reflashing the fixed firmware did not fix my missing RGui when changing typing languages. Will reflash with RGui replaced with LGui for the sake of just getting this fixed. Will monitor whether the reflash fixed my docking triggered bootloading mode issues.

Alright so this is my first experience with this, so please bear with me. I made it past steps 1 and 2 with no problem, but I have a few (probably really stupid) questions about step 3.
I installed DFU programmer and attempted to run the .exe file, but all that happens is a quick flash of a window opening before immediately closing again. Here are my questions:
- Is DFU programmer meant to be saved in a specific location? I currently just have it saved in a folder labeled DFU in my C: drive
- The window that launches when running dfu-programmer.exe is meant to stay open, correct? What is causing it to crash upon launching?
- With my layout (1.25u, 1.25u, 1.25u, space, 1.5u, 1.5u) and the defualt keymap I do not have access to FN / Mo(1), just ALT and CTRL. How would I go about refreshing Device Manager with my UK78 in this situation? (sorry, it's been a long week and my stupidity is showing)

Probably doesn't have to be stored in a specific directory, not sure its needed after initial run either. I believe the executable is just a quick driver/library install so it does close itself pretty quickly, not crashing!
I have the same layout, and my right control 1.5u was Fn by default, you should be able to use that right modifier key + R to get into bootloader, or there is a physical button on the back of the PCB. Just nice to have a soft reset button mapped out so you don't have to disassemble the case to reset.

Stab wire is definitely fully in. I actually replaced the Cherry stabs for the Enter key with Zeal stabs, and have the same issue still. I fully desoldered and resoldered with no change. What's weird is that Rozakiin himself uses the ISO layout and doesn't seem to have this issue? The only difference I can see is that I'm using PBT instead of ABS keycaps, but they should be the same thickness (1.5mm).

I had some similar issues with Zeal stabs, now only using GMK screw-ins
I was using GMK screw-ins when the issue started. I replaced that stab with a Zeal screw-in. My last full build used all Zeal screw-ins and had no issues whatsoever. I suspect this is entirely related to the plate design and that there are no issues with the stabs themselves.

Ok. it looks like for some reason I've lost RGB at all.
It worked initially prior soldering, but after I've soldered in-switch leds (which are VERY dim after installation, although they are actually very bright when connected to USB directly) the RGB is just gone.
There're some other strange things like backlight level almost not working on that LED or toggle LED working when they're set to minimum level.
Of course I've tried to flash default FW with no luck.

Now a bit about RGB. I've turned it off accidentally (set brightness to minimum level) cause actual keymap binding and that shown in keymap.c as an illustration differs. Whatever, I've identified the keys to tune RGB and set it on. But again, for some reason, it took quite some time for keyboard to initialize (3-4 seconds) and it hanged after playing with RGB settings after some time. The only solution was to unplug it and plug back again.
After another unplug the PCB seems dead: Flip doesn't recognize chip, no new devices in device manager after KB is plugged in, no initial flash of all LEDs after KB is plugged in. I can only guess that I've burned the chip with that LEDs. Well, now I've got an expensive brick.
I can give a reason for the LEDs appearing to turn off with the RGB, this is due to the amount of current supplied by the USB, there isn't enough current to drive the LEDs and RGB at once so the LEDs get very dim. Could also be the reason why the LEDs were brighter when attached to an adaptor.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
And most likely the reason for PCB becoming brick is the same: simultaneous RGB and in switch LEDs ultimately killing something with overcurrent.
Now upon plugging it some random RGB led just flashes briefly and that's it.
Any way to fix it, or I can just trash entire thing?
If it "died" while connected through USB then it should be fixable, the pcb has a resetable fuse for over current protection. Is anything detected by the pc when plugged in?

Nope, nothing is detected at all. Tried several times, holding reset as well -- no new devices.
Could be that the bootloader got messed up, you could try and reflash the chip via isp. If you PM me I could try and help you through the steps.

Alright, so I have what is likely a dumb question. I'm just now getting around to putting my board together, and I noticed on the PCB that the backslash/pipe key for ANSI layout has a stabilizer cutout right where a pin of my switch would go. Niiice. Makes me wish mine wasn't bricked. I enjoyed it the ten minutes I got to use it. I was going to attempt desoldering it yesterday so I could get to the ISP connectors but I quickly learned that I totally suck at desoldering. YouTube vids make the solder sucker look so easy but boy does it not work for me.
I'm gonna pick up something like the Tenma 21-8240 in hopes that it'll work better for me. If not I'm screwed. Not sure if it would be better to get someone on r/mechmarket to desolder it for me or for me to buy a whole new PCB and switches.

I've got mine bricked as well, I assume by using both underglow and in-switch LEDs.
I guess I should have said "soft bricked". The keyboard is usually detected when it's in DFU mode. When I try to flash I get an error about the memory not being blank at 0x1. I believe the culprit was a corrupted .hex. All of my problems happened immediately after I tried to flash a new one.
Funny enough I have some in-switch LEDs too. I don't think they're my problem but I won't be including them again the next time I put my board together.

Gotcha. Well you can count me in if the price is right. There's a list of the people who purchased one in the post at the beginning of this thread; not sure if it would be rude or not to PM them all and ask if they're interested. The first image below shows a sanded edge diffuser with 1.7mm washers above it, simulating a 4.7mm piece of acrylic. The second image shows the original 3mm diffuser without sanded edges with the exact same underglow settings.

I think I may have found the issue with QMK too, I had bootmagic turned on by default which could have been causing an issue https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/70gzhh/help_gui_keys_in_qmk_no_longer_opening_windows/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/70gzhh/help_gui_keys_in_qmk_no_longer_opening_windows/).I recently flashed a customized layout and without the bootmagic, it seems the board stays in DFU mode when plugged in. sending a 'reset' thru dfu-programmer or FLIP seems to be enough to get it working but its not something i would want to do every time i replug the board

After some troubleshooting i found that turning bootmagic back on fixed this, tho i'm not entirely sure why it was removed and if there is a preferred way to ensure it boots correctly.

Anyone have an extra PCB for sale? I recently built my UK78 and the “I” switch does not work. Replaced the switch and it still doesn’t work. Checked my soldering and it all looks in order. Anything else I should try? I do have a volt meter maybe I could check it someway if it really is the PCB.

Check the diode, check the keymap if you are using custom firmware, check the switch pads by shorting them together that will let you know if its the switch. If it still doesn't work message me and i will try to help troubleshoot futher.

You just missed the NYM96 Barebones on massdrop. I'm sure that drop will be back in a few months time, seen it a few times. It was $99+ shipping. I think it will still be cheaper than a UK78 with import VAT considered. But I can't speak for the quality comparison, but the reviews seem very promising.

LOL, I have a NYM96 too. It's ok, the build quality is nothing special. It was definitely cheaper than what I paid for my UK78, but it doesn't have the underglow and it has the F row which I really don't need at all. I actually have 3 96 key boards now and I wish I had bought another UK78 instead.

If there is a Round 2, it might be a good idea to revise the PCB quite a bit. Maybe mine was just a dud, but I had several issues with power delivery when using in-switch LEDs. I soft-bricked my board a few times and had to reprogram it with an Arduino.
What made things significantly harder though is that the microcontroller pinouts are directly underneath the switch plate, so you either have to carefully cut through the plate or desolder the entire board. I guess carefully sliding wires between the plate and the PCB might work too, but I imagine getting a good connection would be very difficult.
Pcb has already been revised more times than i can count, there did seem to be a higher issue rate with the at90 chips in the original pcbs than usual. The new pcb would most likely use the at32u4. ISP pinout has also changed so its accessible from the bottom.

Also, i replied 250-300GBP, but i would totally pay more or less depending on the final design or material used. E.g consider brass please, maybe that glass/pc/acrylic bottom with brass feets? :D

Just seeing this -- I've been wanting a new PCB for my board for a while now. Mine was bricked in the middle of use from static! I've been wondering what I can do about it since it's one of my favorite boards, especially build all nicely with alps orange.I had a similar situation, a bit of static shock to the case and the board was no longer responsive. I was able to re-program it with QMK but some of the underglow rgb LEDs no longer work. I tried replacing the first failing one in the chain but it didnt seem to help. At any rate, its worrying enough that i've decided not to use it as my daily driver, which is unfortunate.

I wanna use this thing again!
Prior to the shock, i noticed the same LEDs would rapidly flash between random colors while the system was asleep. Didnt happen every time but worrying nonetheless.
I don't know how much such a shock would affect a keyboard. perhaps its not got enough grounding thru the USB or the fact that the case is essentially a ring makes it impart a lot of EMF to the internals (theorycrafting here). I do know that at the same time i've delivered similar shocks to a macbook with no effect so far as i can tell. I realize that its not good for any electronic components, but the office I was in at the time was very prone to static.

I've static shocked many, many aluminum cases and never had anything like this happen. I had just chalked it up to bad luck.

Apologies for such a delay in responses, it has been quite the busy and disruptive year, as many of you I'm sure will also know!
My plan going forward is to focus on those of you who need PCBs for your UK78s. I aim to setup that group buy this summer. I am not looking to make money of it but just help out those who are unable to currently use their keyboards for whatever reason.
Once everyone from R1 is dealt with I will start research on the best solution to provide a R2 of the UK78. I don't have the time to solo run the group buy like last time.

After searching for months, I've finally found my dream layout - and it's the UK78! Absolutely 100% in for a round 2.
Yup! Can't believe I haven't seen this till now
I'm in for a R2! Also in for a PCB. I might make an acrylic case for it =)
