Whenever people talk about making a new SA-like keycap profile, I kind of hope they'll make a spherical fully profiled keycap system with some sort of internal stabilizer so that it would be solid as a rock when put on a MX switch. But I know that's just impossible...

Wobble with a switch isn't necessarily a bad thing. If helps with off-centered strikes and having them register when you type. It would feel much more awkward without the wobble. If you've tried Cherry ML, it'd be similar to that. Unfortunately not everyone has proper typing technique (including myself) so having wobble is helpful.

True enough, but I think you would get used to it, and in fact it might help your technique.

If you did the soldering and you suspect it's the solder joint, I'd first try resoldering yourself like was suggested in your post. I'm unaware of any USA based repairpeople or builders right now.

I like the look of the WhiteFox more, I absolutely love that keyboard and I really don't want to buy it used/prebuilt because I like building keyboards, but I don't know if the RedScarf will be worth it. I wont be getting keycaps since I already have nice thick PBT keycaps. The one thing that bothers me is how you can see the pcb plate gap under the keycaps on the RedScarf. Wanted to know if it will be noticeable.
** So at the end I want to see if it will be worth it to wait and maybe get the WhiteFox if it re-releases (or until something nicer comes on) or hop onto this right now since it released.

Um....that's not necessarily true. I'm not 100% on that LED type but I wouldn't automatically assume it's fine with keyboards. The issue isn't with the switch body if you're using MX, but really more with the caps. Some LEDs are a bit too thick and rub against the thicker caps like GMK or nice PBT caps. I will say if you are into those LEDs, buy a couple first to trial fit before buying 100+.

I'm not sure what gap you're referring to. And what is your criteria for a keyboard being "worth it"?
[/quote]

By being worth it I was trying to figure out if the WhiteFox will release anytime soon and if not would the RedScarf be a good option... or to just forget every thing there and wait for a jchan 65% release?

Hello, pretty new here.

I am looking at trading a CM Storm Quickfire TK with Cherry Browns and O-Rings for WoB Dark Lord and/or Evil Silence.

I'm really not sure if I can post in the classifieds yet. Any advice? Should I just wait until I can?

Thanks for any help.

Sincerely, Geekhack Newb.

I believe it's been done before but I'm not 100% sure how it was controlled. This thread seems to think it's not possible but I can't say either way.

Those user cherry ML switches and are not MX compatible. I believe the key printing is pad printing but they may also have a lasered version as well.

I was wondering if it was possible to replace costar stabilizers with cherry on a filco majestouch 2? If so, plate or pcb? It doesn't look like pcb would work but this is the fist time I've attempted any sort of modifications so I can't really tell just by looking. Thanks in advance

You can put plate mounted cherry stabilizers in a Filco if you buy a universal plate.

Don't know where you'd get one, I think mechanicalkeyboards.com used to sell them.

You'd have to desolder every switch and then reassemble using the new plate.

that's exactly what I was wondering, thanks. I was already planning on changing the switches to jailhouse blues and wanted to change up the stabilizers while I was at it but don't know if I can afford a new plate atm. It sucks they wont fit in the stock plate but whatevs.

it's a little big for that.  you could I guess, but might as well use the laptop keyboard since I think RF isn't that much better..  HHKB feels better but I'd rather use linears

so for you linears>45g topre> clunky realforce topre?

Has there been any keyboards that used discrete mechanical switches and a curved plate, excluding maltron and I believe the kenesis?   Wondering about standard layouts.

well Model F but not very standard haha.  If you mean curved in more than one direction, I believe those are the only two.  However, maltron has multiple models
But F doesn't use discrete switches.  Was thinking some sort of standard layout with something like MX, Alps, or even own branded switches, but had a curved plate and uniform profile caps.

oh I see.  misunderstanding.  you could probably model your own board and hand wire it.  Use a vacuum form with thick plastic and mold it against something else and cutout every switch.  Seems like a boat load of work.   I've seen multiple alps board at an angle that makes it appear curved, but it's just a flat plate.

Think that's something you'lll have to invent.

There was a sculpted microsoft to MX conversion on here somewhere
I was looking to do the multiple plate route, just wondering if it had been done with a single plate and curious how the PCB side was handled.  Mostly curious about mass produced versions.

They use flexible PCB's it looks like
Looks expensive to produce in small quantities.  I wonder what is out there for small solder in connectors that allow easy and secure wire connection while being low profile enough for all the columns for a switch matrix.

I wonder what is out there for small solder in connectors that allow easy and secure wire connection while being low profile enough for all the columns for a switch matrix.

there are solderable versions of the thin ribbon cable.  You could make some spacers and use that instead.  sounds like an interesting project
I was thinking something that would use normal hookup wire to offer flexible layouts with swapping just a single row.
