[IC] DSA Seafoam (Kits Added)
« on: Fri, 07 October 2016, 16:38:52 »
Hey guys,
With my work on DSA Borealis being officially over, I thought I should start a new IC for another keyset idea I've been working on...

DSA Seafoam

Inspired by the colors of breaking waves, the alphas of Seafoam are a light blue with dark blue legends, the mods are a dark blue with light blue legends.
Additionally, there are two optional "Sea Glass" color addon packs.
The first of these packs is Blue and Mint Sea Glass.
The second is Pink and 'Salmon' Sea Glass.

Kits (WIP)

Base:

Sea Glass Color Pack 1:

Sea Glass Color Pack 2:

Numpad:

Alternate Layout:

ISO:

Ergodox:

Planck:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extra Renders:

Thanks for checking this out  :thumb:

Really nice. I think if you had darker hint of blue for accents it would really pop

Thanks, I tried a darker blue for the mods, and it looked nice, but it made the color addons seem out of place. If that makes any sense

Looks good. Just needs more legible legends.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback.
Do you mean the whole set as a whole needs more legible legends? Or just the color addons?

I think the base should be legible enough, but I admit the addons could be tough to read.

If the whole thing should be more legible, I could replace the dark blue with an even darker, more full, blue, as suggested above.
That should fix any legibility issues, but might lose the faded colors of blue I was going for in the base

Base looks fine but can always be better.  Really depends on what you're going for and what you want to achieve. I shouldn't sway you one way; it's your set after all. Make it how you envisioned it.

Oh this is so nice! I'm sad double-shotted keycaps from SP will suffer fromthe bad typesetting of their default mould. I hate SP's typesetting  :'(

Loving the glass kits! I live right over the sea and have done so all my life, this is going to be a must have for sure even though I'm usually not a fan of blue on keyboards.

Something to look forward to once Borealis hits the (virtual) shelves!

Really nice, though I actually prefer the base Seafoam colourway more than the glass kits. There is so much cyan, turquoise, and similar going around right now that the base set palette are very refreshing.

Thanks,
One of my original versions of this actually had the mint colors as part of the base set, but I decided to make the color addons for this exact reason.
The base looks nice on its own, but for those that like sets with more than just two colors, the addons exist. Hopefully this is the best compromise

I'd like one... only if «CAPS LOCK» and left «CTRL» were respectively replaced by «CONTROL» and «FUN» (unix user here).

A swapping of caps lock and ctrl can definitely be done in one of the child kits

I've been too busy lately to do any more work on this, so I don't have any dates in mind. I do really like this design though so once I get some free time I'll do more work on it

Had a few free minutes to put together two new Sea Glass packs:

Pink Sea Glass:

Orange Sea Glass:

These use the colors RCR and RCU, respectively.

I really like these colors as well, but I'm worried having four different color packs might be too many. My original plan was just to have two different colors, but it's hard to pick which ones.
Let me know what you guys think.

Both right side colours are awesome, teal and salmon (ish?). Like the top right too, pink's alright, they're all cool but I feel the 2 right ones fit/look the best.

I feel like I'm the outlier here. I prefer the 3d render of the blue sea grass. An option could be to have cheap modifiers on top of the base set I guess.

Hey guys, I've been a bit too busy to get any more work on this done, but I think I am gonna go with the original two color packs, Blue and Mint.

The next thing I wanna do is novelties, but I'm not really sure what designs I should make. I'm thinking just general ocean/beach/sailing themed but I'm not too sure.

Can it be glow in the dark to match with Jelly Key's wrist rest https://www.jellykey.com/artisan-wrist-rest/navigator-of-sea-wrist-rest?

With a possible Icon Modifier? http://cdn6.bigcommerce.com/s-ktpi93fl/products/215/images/822/iconmodifier__42512.1475783087.1280.1280.jpg?c=2

I don't think glow in the dark fits this set very much.

Icon mods are a possibility, though I don't know how much of an interest there is.

Yeah I was definitely thinking a crashing wave would be perfect, but it might be hard to capture with just the legend color

Updated the OP with kits.
They are basically the same as Borealis, except for the Alternate Layout, in which I removed unnecessary keys.
Let me know if you have problems with the kits, they're still WIP.

I'm still struggling with novelties, and at this point I'm not sure if I'll even include some.
I tried making some on my own and they turned out okay, at best. Nothing that I was happy with.
