Only Debian?

Could do a set of Linux logos ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

For the moment it will be only Debian. AlinH and I didn't want to make a big set that would become also expensive, also we are still learning about organizing this kind of things.
There is also the copyright issue, not all the logos are free for use.

I never knew that Logos were copyrighted on a FREE distribution operating system?

Often they are released under Creative Commons, which usually means you can use the logo but you have to include a link back to their web page.  Kinda difficult with keycaps.

Perfect! Buy more guys !
The SA was intended for people who bought the SA Vim and also 7bit Honeywell Round5.
I'm taking the DSA version also, after I tested SA profile realised it's not my cup of tea, will have to sell all or almost all of my Round 5 stuff and that's almost 1kg of caps  I don't know what I was thinking of...

Updated the OP with the link, sorry, it's still early morning here :D
One note: At least for the red on white swirl I will male sure it tips, depending on how many are ordered I will try also for the black on gray. So go ahead and order, let's try and hit the cheaper tiers ;)

Looking good so far.
For Debian we are at 8 for each.
DSA Vim at 15
SA 1.75 Vim at 5
Plenty of time to order, and nice prices waiting in the next tiers.

For the previous SA Vim GB we reached 0.75$ per cap, that is cheap for novelty.

A quick update on the current status.

20 Days to go and:
:-[ Debian Red on White  | 8 pcs
:( Debian Black on Grey | 8 pcs
 :thumb: Vim 1u DSA                 | 21 pcs
 >:D Vim 1.75u DSA            | 14 pcs
 :( Vim 1.75u SA               | 6 pcs

Vim 1u DSA is close to the tipping point.
Buy more    The Vim cap might turn into a collectible item :P and show more love for Debian

Why buy more you wonder ?  :p Here we go :

Warning  PR $#/~   >:D

  • You bough a BEAUTIFUL Granite PBT DSA key set and want to add more fluff to it ? Buy some Debian PBT Caps with a swirl on top to go with!!!!
  • You bought a DOLCH DSA and are craving for a green geeky touch ? Buy the Vim DS 1u and 1.75u Caps Lock Replacement caps!!!
  • You ordered and ordered more and more in Round 5 ? You can order one more key, the 1.75u Row 3 Vim Caps Lock Replacement, it will be in your hands before Round 5 :P

It's only fair to say that for the above mentioned Key Sets credits go to:

Round 5: 7bit and mechanical keyboards community
Dolch DSA: mechanical keyboards community

If the Debian key turns out to be a success we can show some love for DCS. For Vim it didn't make any sense to do it as long as you can buy one in DCS profile from techkeys.
For the moment let's see Debian tip, at least one of them.

The main issue here is copyright, with SP we have to take that into consideration. On the other hand a multiple key set is more expensive, for a one key GB the hard part is to go pass the first and second tiers, after that it's so cheap that people buy a handful  :thumb:

And Debian is one the oldest distro's, OK it doesn't have the fluff of Ubuntu or bleeding edge of Arch, but is one cool OS that made it back when nobody trusted Linux to go mainstream, what the hell, they did not trust Linux period ! This GB is a tribute to that  >:D

Some movement on Red/White Debian, nothing spectacular.
In the end it doesn't make a difference, we will buy the rest of them. The debian cap will be a rare item owned only by few :D

I want to pick these up but even after 50, the price is 3.75 a cap and then $9 shipping to Canada.
Really a pretty penny. Can't say no to DSA PBT though, so I'll grab a couple before the buy ends.

It's funny when guys from US or Canada complain about shipping :D
Us Europeans get screwed real nice, we pay the stuff, pay big money on shipping and at least for my country customs will make me pay 24% VAT for the whole sum (shipping included) plus customs handling tax.  But what the hell, it's a Debian DSA PBT cap and I'm not going to buy that every day :D

My main concern is

Subtotal   $27.00
Calculated Shipping   $39.00*
Total   $66.00

When the key prices go down, the shipping will not.
Because these buys are not child buys, shipping cost is calculated separately.
Will these be produced and shipped completely separately or is there any way to have shipping combined?
I just bought Granite for $500 and had no problem paying another $70 taxes,
when I get charged duty I don't complain; but I shouldn't have to pay $40 shipping on $10 of caps.
Even if they shipped all four in separate bubble mailers [the caps lock actually is a child buy]
it wouldn't cost that much to ship.

Don't worry about shipping, you will be charged only once, the rest will be refunded at the end of the GB, all the stuff will be mailed in a single envelope :).
If you want to be on the safe side just e-mail Melissa and she will combine the orders, but I tell you from my own experience, with the SA Vim cap we bought stuff in 2 phases, the shipping money got reserved 2 times but at the end was refunded. Also for Galaxy it was the same.
The PMK system has some limitations but thankfully Melissa is there and takes care of all the glitches.
So go ahead and buy the stuff, it will be shipped together and will pay only once shipping ;)

I guess in time PMK will sort this kind of things better, the system is not yet mature :(

When you have a single deal with multiple child deals PMK has another issue, only the main deal has shipping included, and when you want to buy only a child you can not checkout, this was one of the big issues on Galaxy Class. So having multiple deals is a workaround to this problem, the shipping reservation is a PITA but in the end you get a refund, and pay only once.

Anyway I'm glad you pointed out to this issue. I guess many other noticed that but no one bothered to ask, and this is wrong. In life when something doesn't seem right you just don't stay and do nothing, with that kind of attitude people might just as well lay down and wait to die.
It's always worth asking and trying to clear things out.
So thanks again  :thumb: maybe now more will join the GB ;)

Thanks a lot for your answer!
I'm glad we get to save on shipping. Hopefully SP will add a feature to automatically cancel estimated shipping on buys that are linked together.
I will definitely be picking up more keys now that the initial cost of buying in will be less. :)

Edit: Just upped my order to 5 of each 1u and 3 capslock.

SA Vim is not doing well, I hoped that after buying so many SA 1u Vim caps people would go also for the Caps Lock replacement Vim. Maybe to the end of the GB will start moving.
I'm happy that at least the DSA is doing well.
For the Debian we will try our best to help both of them to make it.

The Vim cap will be awesome, I have the SA profile and it looks great, and it's something as geeky as it can get  :p

Melissa said :

"At this point we cannot apply a shipping charge to a 'cart' of items, but only to a group buy. The only way around this would be to add a note having people contact me with their invoice number if they buy into more than one   group buy and we will refund the shipping after each group buy has closed..."

Maybe a bit late, but I asked Melissa to add the explanation to each group buy, which she did :

"FOR SHIPPING: EACH GROUP BUY IS CHARGED A FLAT RATE, IF YOU BUY INTO MORE THAN ONE INDIVIDUAL KEYCAP GROUP BUY AND PAY DUPLICATE SHIPPING, PLEASE CONTACT MELISSA @ MPETERSEN(AT)SOLUTIONSINPLASTIC(DOT)COM WITH YOUR ORDER NUMBER(S) AND WE WILL REFUND THE SHIPPING COST WHEN THE GROUP BUY CLOSES."

so "BUY MORE!"

Daily update:
;) Debian Red on White | 20 pcs
;) Debian Black on Grey | 14 pcs
 >:D Vim 1u DSA | 58 pcs Tipped and now only 3.50$!
  Vim 1.75u DSA | 30 pcsTipped !

The 1u DSA Vim is close to 75 pcs tier that would unlock the 2.50$ price ;) The 1.75 is getting close to 50 pcs tier that would unlock the 3.75$ price per cap.

Interested fellows may add to their signatures a link to the GB to communicate the offer to the community. You should be aware that as the GB thread is not in the group buy forum many may not notice it until it is too late.  :thumb:

I know that.. I'm fairly new to the keyboard community, especially on GH, and as an experienced forum user I know better than posting just for publicity in popular threads, that's just not me  :-[
But... If anyone who loved this GB and jumped aboard is willing to add the link to this GB in the signature we can only say Thank You! you will not regret it  :thumb:
The Vim will be awesome, we know for sure as it was done before in other profiles. For the Debian we will make sure that it will be perfect even if just a handful will be produced in the end.

Add this code to your signature to have this little banner I made show up there.
I know it doesn't promote the SA vim keys, but I wanted to focus on the 3 DSA.

Thank you for the code and the nice banner, however, it is a little too much for my liking, I'd prefer the simple text line that it is already in my sig. In a side note, if you are not already into it, there is someone selling her Granite in the classifieds now.

Cool banner :) I updated my signature  :thumb:

Daily update:
 >:D Debian Red on White | 28 pcs Tipped !
;) Debian Black on Grey | 14 pcs
 >:D Vim 1u DSA | 67 pcs Tipped and now only 3.50$!
  Vim 1.75u DSA | 30 pcsTipped !
:( Vim 1.75u SA | 9 pcs

I think for the Vim DSA we will reach the other tiers, and in the end we will have the lower prices ;)
Debian Red on White tipped, that is awesome, hope it will reach the other tiers, at least the 50 units one.

Let's try and make this GB a success like the SA Vim was with over 700 units sold:
"BUY MORE!!!"  :thumb: it can only get cheaper ;)

Not a fan of apt and I like my rolling release.  ;)
If you ever do an ArchLinux logo I'm in https://www.archlinux.org/art/

I don't know if we will ever run a GB for Arch, the logo is really nice, and is a popular distro and I think this should be done. I use Solaris, Debian and Slackware.
To run such a GB is easy with SP, just get a fine SVG with the logo, contact SP and launch it.
But, with Arch there is a trademark issue and I quote from their site:

Restricted use that requires a trademark license

Explicit permission from the Arch Linux Project Lead is necessary to use any of the Trademarks under any circumstances other than those specifically permitted above. These include:

    Any commercial use.
Use on or in relation to a software product that includes or is built on top of a product supplied by us, if there is any commercial intent associated with that product.
Use for merchandising purposes, e.g. on t-shirts and the like.
Services relating to any of the above.

Signature Plastics will not use a logo that would infringe any trademark or copyright, so whoever wants to run the GB will have to take care and get permission from Arch Linux.

For Debian was easy, the logo used is free, no restrictions, but still we had to prove SP that there is no copyright issue.
Behind of a even simple GB like this one there is a lot of work, email exchanges with SP, planning of the images that are used, pricing. And in the end all the PR to make people aware of the GB and motivate them to buy.
And there is no profit for Alin and I, Alin as the GB organizer on PMK will get only one key cap from each kit that tips, that is nothing, in the end we buy our own stuff too. In the SA Vim GB we bought 20 caps + 1 free.
If you run a full set maybe there is some gain because you get a set for free, but in single cap GB's there is a lot of commitment for no gain, just the satisfaction that you can buy a custom cap of your own design  :thumb:

So BUY MORE!!!

I think that the 1.75u key makes a great replacement for the caps lock key to use it as control. It has a very different color that makes it to stand out.

Yep, on all my keyboards I have Control instead of Caps Lock.
Also, talking today with Alin we realized that the 1.75u Vim can replace also the 1.75u Shift, and you can have 1u Vim as Fn and 1.75u Vim as Shift HHKB style :D

Missed it by about 12 hours. Guess I should have checked yesterday. :<
[saw it was sold last night] thanks for the heads up though.
