Places to buy good high quality SA profile keycaps
« on: Fri, 03 July 2020, 02:33:02 »
Hello,
I am starting a new build very soon and I plan on incorporating a walnut chassis I am dead set on using SA profile keycaps but cant find anywhere to buy them any links or suggestions on a good SA set that would complement a walnut chassis would be much appreciated. Here is a link to the chassis I plan on using https://kbdfans.com/collections/all/products/60-walnut-case

You will be hard-pressed to find good quality SA keycap sets, let alone SA sets that are regularly stocked or widely available.

My first recommendation will be that you peruse what is available at https://pimpmykeyboard.com/ - this is Signature Plastic's website. These are the OG creators and makers of the SA profile and its sibling profiles (SA-P, DSA to name a couple). I can tell you that Signature Plastic tooling and ABS is top-notch quality in my personal SA Bliss set. Super thick and thocky.

Secondly, you can check out https://www.originativeco.com/
They carry a few SA and DSA keysets, but primarily focus on GMK and BSP.

For the rest, you can check out the SA keysets on MechanicalKeyboards.com, KBDfans, Aliexpress, and KRepublic; join a groupbuy of an SA set; or find the SA kit of your desire (at a premium) either at r/mechmarket or here in the Classifieds.

NOTE: Outside of Signature Plastics and Keyreative SA sets, the rest are on the thinner side, but do come at a range of colors that are readily available.

Filco SA R3 keycaps are often in-stock at various retailers.

The white Filco keycaps might go well with a wooden case:

Maybe even green:

I have the 'black' Filco SA R3 keycaps, and they are astonishingly good quality, especially for the price ~100 and being in-stock when I bought them. I don't like SA R3 though. But they are actually a dark rich Brown in colour, and might go well with a wooden case. Maybe I should sell them to you.

I find it interesting that they use off-centered legends usually seen on Cherry profile sets. Looks super clean on that white set, though.

I found some decent and unique SA keycaps on aliexpress, but it will take a while before you get them since they will ship from china. I just ordered a set of keys like 2 weeks ago so I cannot speak on the quality tho.

Also I was wondering if people know of any good SA keycaps that are not curved (AKA R3 set). I know the current SA Mizu group buy is all R3 but I wanted to see other options too. R3 SA keycap sets seem to be pretty rare and hard to find

The previously mentioned Filco sets are all R3, and those are going to be the most readily available ones.  They're also made by Signature Plastics, so the quality should be very good.  I just bought a set of SP's "Industrial" SA keycaps, which are made with their new PBT tooling.  They're very nice, but so thick that I've had to trim down the insides of them to clear some of the switch housings on my Realforce RGB.  The PBT sets do have a sculpted profile, though, so they're not uniform R3.
