I've been trying to get this guy converted without any luck.  Planning on getting a Leeku PCB to get it up and running and use it as my new work daily.

Those vintage blues are clicky as hell.

You'll love it.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

What is the best way to go about paint matching a colour to paint a standard beige g80-1800 case? Painting a cheapo 1800 case matched to the colour of the g80-1800 H2099 (the green sailors model) would be an interesting project, depending on whether I could get a sample or paint code for the H2099  :p

They definitely need to be lubricated and I have switched spring to 72g Sprit. Quieter than usual, yes. They hiss a little but nothing that bother me.

Lubricated? So this means that not all silent switches are smooth...

Even a smooth switch can benefit from lube.

Really like the old style sticker for NCS-indicators. Also, spring swap, lube your silent blacks and PCB-mount them! Awesome. My fav-keeb for now. Anyone willing to sell me their Goupil 1800 or even only the case, let me know.

Here is my Dolch PAC64  / Cherry G80-1813 Keyboard.

I got this Dolch Pac 64 from Ebay and it was missing a keycap, so I added a "bug" from the Signature Plastics DSA Alps/Matias "Granite" keyset giving a "theme" to the whole PC.

Being a "bug", the key is different from all the other keys, shape included.

I upgraded the Dolch Pac 64 to Intel Core i7-3770T plus  Nvidia GTX 1060 and  replaced the LCD display.

The specs are:

LCD: 12.1" ChiMei G121X1-L04 LCD Screen Display
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770T 3.70 Ghz Quad-Core Processor
COOLER: AKASA AK-CC7124EP01 Low Profile
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
MOTHERBOARD: Axiomtech SHB120 PICMG 1.3 Full-size CPU Card
STORAGE: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive 1.44 Mb Floppy Disk Drive LG GTC0N R/W CD/DVD drive
VIDEO CARD: AsusTURBO GTX 1060 6GB POWER SUPPLY: Silverstone SFX ST45Sf-G 80 Plus GOLD 450W

The upgrade is not that easy nor cheap,  here is my  build log https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BgUoO9gYjU

I did not modify the keyboard that is perfectly PS/2 compatible.

The machine is a pleasure to use  :D

Okay, this is AWESOME.  Really nice work on that build, I think this is the first time I've seen someone smash a modern computer into a Dolch PAC.  :thumb:  Do you foresee yourself using the computer in a semi-mobile fashion?  Would make a really great LAN party machine.  :D

Yes, being able to change video cards or processors at will makes this build very versatile. This is perfect for Lan Parties, as well as hooking it up to Your HD tv for gaming or a VR google set. Its' compact and you can still enjoy the feel of a mechanical keyboard in a vintage machine that You can use every day.

Using a stripped off Dolch keyboard is not the same experience as using it on the original chassis!

Quote
very cool, im sure that took some time.

It took 6 months more or less with most of the time spent studing pictures and diagrams of the new parts against the chassis non standard dimensions.
Every new part I tried to fit, I had new mechanical interference problems to solve and, using mostly special parts, I also had to wait for them to go back an forth from China, US, Germany and so forth.

Some parts had to be  hand made such as the lcd fixing brackets for example, but there is nothing that and average skilled builder can't make in this build.
It's just a matter of having a lot of patience.

The bug ruins the keyboard's look. I am afraid, so. But if you like the theme, well, let's be it.

I also have a G80-1838HPU. To me, the key caps resemble GMK Pristine (L9) more than GMK Stormtrooper (CP). The alphas are a creamy white rather than off-white.

I agree with the sentiment that they are close to the alpha color of OG Cherry beige.

And sorry to be that person, but is cerakote an option with plastics ;)

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
You can't cerekote plastics unless it can withstand 300c temps for multiple hours and even then you might have a tough time

Actually it's 300F, not 300C, but that's for quick cure.  You do 250F for 2 hrs.  If the case is ABS, it'll be a pile of goop, but PBT would take it like champ.  There are some photos and blog posts out there of people cerakoting a model M case.  Looks sweet.

I stumbled across this stack of Cherry G80 1800LPCEU-2 at work.

Did you tell them they're no good and you need them for a recycling project?  I'll take one, please  :p
I am offering new slick and shiny dell keyboards in exchange for these bulky old fashioned ones :)

@T0mb3ry
How did you add the back light to the second keyboard posted there ?  Or did the keyboard come with it ?

I am also interested in 1x1 size windows key replacement. I am a FreeBSD user and would like to get that logo on my newly found Cherry G80-1800.

Back light? None of these keyboards has back light. The plate on the second board is red and its pretty visible. Maybe you mixed it with back light.

Yes, I did confuse the red plate as a back light. It looks pretty real to me. Since I do a bit of typing at night, I would appreciate a bit of back light for the keyboard, even though it does not shine through the key caps.

I dreamed about 1800 since I found HASRO and googled more about Cherry keyboards and their keycaps. And found - two months later. Data code is 1995. Black with a large logo, very similar to vintage. Smooth. The cap is almost mint! I'm afraid to use it and wipe it to shine. And a little sad - the seller said that there were several more, but they were sent to the scrap.

How rare do you think the H2099 in black colour?
the seller asks from 50 dollars

What a beauty!  Seriously though, can we start a go-fund-me to raise money for a PSA begging people to not throw away vintage boards?  Think how many are trashed daily.  :(
