Hello all!
« on: Mon, 08 February 2016, 23:21:54 »
I have been using mechanical keyboards for a few years, but have only recently taken them as a hobby, thanks to several group buys on Massdrop.

Sadly, my collection has not begun yet. Currently, I'm using a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 with Cherry MX Browns. I would love to get a Pok3r with Cherry MX Clears and a White Fox with Cherry MX Gray Linears. Eventually, I would like to make a project out of building a numpad.

Glad to be a part of the community!

Welcome to Geekhack!

So you are a fan of heavier switches?  I can understand your frustration with the Sidewinder :))

Pok3r is a good place to start, as I seem to have told a few people recently.  The WhiteFox is also an interesting keyboard, although you might not get every keycap set to fit it.

There's a few threads about numpads in - might give you some ideas :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hey man!
I've ordered a set of Granite for the White Fox. I've heard that will get another drop on Massdrop later this year for that board. For the Pok3r, I'm hoping MiTo drops the Sci-Fi set again, but anything is possible. One big reason I joined up here is for the marketplace. There's a lot of nice keysets on here.

I will definitely check it out, thanks! I feel like I'll want one, going from a 100% to a 65% and 60%. I like working with my hands, and I think building a numpad will be a little easier as a first project than a full keyboard.

There are certainly a lot of keysets around!  The problem is choosing which ones to get with the little money we have!

Hi. Welcome!  Can you please show pics of your modded Microsoft Sidewinder X4 with Cherry MX Browns? I can't find your handles on the other sites you listed.

Hey!
It isn't modded, it's all original. And I just checked, and I can't believe I've gone all of this time thinking they were Cherry switches.  :-[ I must have read they were like browns
Well that's embarrassing. I guess its good that I'm still new to knowing things about the keyboards versus just using them. Oh well, we'll move on. haha

I just joined all of these sites (minus Massdrop) all at once. For some reason, I've been much more active here. Not sure why.
