LOL, I've been worried about the same thing but I think it will be fine as it's linked to my Google account. So how have you been faring? I feel like a Team Rocket Grunt, all I'm seeing usually are Ekans, Pidgey, Meowth, Zubat, etc. My office is infested with Ratata's, I keep getting one every other hour, just sitting at my desk. I've been distancing myself from the Pokemon franchise since the games have been more and more repetitive. Yellow and Crystal are my all time favorite Pokemon games, and seeing that this game (so far) only has 1st gen Pokemon, I'm thinking of trying it out.

Well you can battle for land grabs at gyms. attacking is active, and defending is passive.
But you can't just battle a dude walking down the street.

I walked around on my lunch break, found a zubat which took like 6 tries to catch. About 100 feet away, I see a bunch of teenage guys with their phones out. I asked them if they were playing Pokemon too, they all laugh their asses off and as I'm walking away I hear one guy say "I TOLD you he was playing pokemon go" hahaha

This reminds me of Ingress. Which means..I won't really be playing much if at all . Around my residence, heck even walking around out at work there's nothing but random blips of landmarks, no pokemon or anything. It's a great idea, just not good for me in a medium sized and sprawled out city :(
It's fun to try and catch people in the act who are very obviously playing Pokemon GO. I saw two people glued to their phones about to run into the walls at my local post office :))

So I'm about to go to sleep, I'm in bed and I see this gym nearby turned Valor.
I literally get out of bed, put clothes on and go out to go stomp some noobs tryna creep up in my hood.
I get there, kick this Zubat's ass but it stays at 1 hp and still kills my Pokemon. So I leave, it must be bugged or something. I go and challenge it again, and when it counts down and reaches "GO!", it kicks me out to the gym screen where it shows all the leaders. So I try again and every single time no matter what I do it kicks me out at GO. So I can't neutralize this gym that has some weak ass Pokemon, because I couldn't actually kill it because some immortal bug.
Bull **** ****ing got out of bed walked over there wasted my time. I even reset the app and relogged in and all that.

I get there, kick this Zubat's ass but it stays at 1 hp and still kills my Pokemon. So I leave, it must be bugged or something. I go and challenge it again, and when it counts down and reaches "GO!", it kicks me out to the gym screen where it shows all the leaders. So I try again and every single time no matter what I do it kicks me out at GO. So I can't neutralize this gym that has some weak ass Pokemon, because I couldn't actually kill it because some immortal bug.

Ive battled more than 10 gyms, and every one, I beat all three defenses, and the final pokemon gets down to 1 hp, and wont die.
I did the same exact thing, where at 11pm I walk down the road to server issues.

AR is cool but its too stressful.
I think that's also where the Pokemon will actively run away from the camera.

Yesterday was a good day, I walked around 50Km. Got a 1k+ Arcanine and a couple of Dragonair's. Still need to catch ~60 Magikarps and ~20 Dratini/Dragonair. Not a bad day, went from Level 10 to 15, have 10 Pokemon allocated to gyms.
God damn, you are putting in some work moz!
I just dont get that type of variety, and haven't seen anything in the wild over 300 cp.

I've been playing since yesterday and have been having quite a bit of fun. One thing I am really missing is battles.
I'm also not to sure about having to catch the same pokemon over and over to evolve one of them. There seems to be no actual training going on.
Other than those, pretty major, things it's kinda a game I've always wanted.
I like that you have to travel across the land, search far and wide.
It really helps you understand each pokemon and the power that's inside.
For some reason I feel like it is my destiny to catch them all.

GPS spoofing and car use was a huge issue in ingress (the developers former game). Trust me, they know a lot about the issues.

The driver is ok. My nosey coworker just walked back in to the office with an update. The cops "released" the driver, a coworker came and picked them up so I guess you can rule out drugs/alcohol, but not Pokemon.

all you can do at this point is farm pidgeys, caterpies, and weedles (12 candy to evolve) and pop lucky eggs to evolve them
you can see how absurd the xp requirements for levels get eventually

levelling from 22-23 is like levelling from 1-15
was super fun walking around with buddies making quick progression and finding exciting new pokemon early on, but that fun seems to fade

Popped an egg and incense, server immediately dies on me. Managed to get back on once to evolve all my ****, caught like 1 pokemon and hatched 2 eggs... sigh
Not too bad, I used a Lucky Egg, had 35 buggers lined up to evolve, only got through ten, that too with repeated logins. Usually I won't use any items after 4PM GMT, but today the servers started acting up an extra 3 hours early. Must be the Saturday and Europe release.

I think I'm just going to quit playing (for now) to stop depressing myself from seeing everyone else having so much fun while I live in the middle of no where without a car. I spent cash on Pokéballs just to get to level 17 and I know there are people 10 above that in the city. Like, what I wish is that I could just go out and walk, but the first Pokéstop is 12 km up the road, and then there's like 8 km more before the next one and the first gym.
You just have to accept you aren't in the city. Got FOMO because you not level 27? Sounds unhealthy.

I am lucky enough to find Pokémon here, and I've even found some fairly rare or uncommon ones, with Ivysaur being my favorite catch so far (found a Snorlax here too, but meh). It's just that there are no stops or gyms. There are a lot of places that could or should be stops but haven't been marked in the game (churches, a fire dept, etc).
You're right though, it was a heavy case of FOMO. I've always been pretty okay living out here. It's quiet and chill despite being out of the way, but PoGo came out and really just sent some nasty kind of existential vibes at me. I've since accepted that there's pretty much nothing I can do in the short term and it's just how things are. Just going at my own pace and not really paying much mind to the game now, especially with the server issues. Yep, taking a step back from the hype and recalibrating my focus has helped a lot.
Come to think of it, fomo hit me really hard when I first jumped into mechanical keyboards too, haha. It's easy to get overwhelmed, but then you just take a step back and realize it's best to do your own thing.

Okay. Now you are making sense. GO has just been an amplifier to an already existing feeling of isolation. I'm sorry you feel that way, and it seems you already cleared your head quite a bit. Keepin' on catching, but don't let yourself get caught up in the internet hype over how crazy far people are into this game already.
I know I have two baseball fields in my neighborhood that are both gyms. The pokemon there are already out of control. To hit stops I actually have to walk through a congested part of historic town. It works both ways, so I feel like the population makes a very casual player like myself unable to really "compete". I'm fine with it as I've enjoyed just catching stuff and asking questions to people on GH through PMs and chats about what is good and what I should do next. GO is a great bonding tool for me, and that is all it is.

I'm slightly (only slightly) surprised at the variety of people who are playing - middle-aged women surprised me the most. I was totally surprised by the middle-age men playing (NOT).

Just going at my own pace and not really paying much mind to the game now, especially with the server issues. Yep, taking a step back from the hype and recalibrating my focus has helped a lot.
Come to think of it, fomo hit me really hard when I first jumped into mechanical keyboards too, haha. It's easy to get overwhelmed, but then you just take a step back and realize it's best to do your own thing.
Okay. Now you are making sense. GO has just been an amplifier to an already existing feeling of isolation. I'm sorry you feel that way, and it seems you already cleared your head quite a bit. Keepin' on catching, but don't let yourself get caught up in the internet hype over how crazy far people are into this game already.
I know I have two baseball fields in my neighborhood that are both gyms. The pokemon there are already out of control. To hit stops I actually have to walk through a congested part of historic town. It works both ways, so I feel like the population makes a very casual player like myself unable to really "compete". I'm fine with it as I've enjoyed just catching stuff and asking questions to people on GH through PMs and chats about what is good and what I should do next. GO is a great bonding tool for me, and that is all it is.
Yeah, it was just creating a longing to be back where I used to be and to just be able to walk out and explore like so many people are doing, haha. The feelings of isolation were something I had pretty much coped with up until that point. Quiet neighborhood, out of the way, safe--though the drive is something no one likes.
The game just blew the lid open on all of that for me. Definitely got hit with the fomo hard there. Level 17 might seem like a lot, but I have already seen, like, level 24s and such at the first gym out from here. I've just learned that I -will- have to take it at my own pace; I can let myself get too mixed up in trying to compete when the area isn't the best for it and such.
Pokémon Go is still a really sick game though, especially for those that grew up with Pokémon. It's insane how it just came in and took everyone by storm. It's a fun way to explore one's own town or city too if it's got landmarks that are noted in PoGo. That's something I noticed and really liked, that more than just catching Pokémon, having these landmarks being gyms and stops is a great way to learn more about the history there and spark interest.
It's definitely a great social tool and good for exercise too.

I think I'm just going to quit playing (for now) to stop depressing myself from seeing everyone else having so much fun while I live in the middle of no where without a car. I spent cash on Pokéballs just to get to level 17 and I know there are people 10 above that in the city. Like, what I wish is that I could just go out and walk, but the first Pokéstop is 12 km up the road, and then there's like 8 km more before the next one and the first gym.Thats rough. I have 3 pokestops and a gym within 15 minutes walking distance from me. I walked atleast 15k yesterday, which is very abnormal for me. This is the most exercise ive gotten in forever! :))

Been really enjoying GO. Met a lot of random people in the main park downtown yesterday and ran into some old friends who were also playing. Can't wait to go back out again today. Trying to stack as many Pidgeys and Pidgey candies as I can before popping a lucky egg.

Yup, same. Unfortunately due to the game clock on Silver and Gold, the internal batteries ran out really quickly, so my original save on my silver cartridge was wiped about five or six years ago :(

You have to go in the shop and hit collect. You can do it immediately after you take over a gym, you just have to wait 21 hours before you can do it again.

i'm only level 22 and i'm just about fed up with this game. they nerfed pokeball success rates and increased the dodginess of the pokemon, so now i'm wasting upwards of 6-7 pokeballs sometimes on frickin ~100 CP weedles and pidgeys
not to mention now that pokevision is dead I can't find anything that's near me anymore, I could have gotten a lapras at work this morning if it was still up

I've been playing since Day 1, level 30 now, caught 144 Pokes, however now that I've had to relocate again (!), there aren't as many Pokestops or Gyms near where I live, compound that with the recent "updates", I will start slowing down and takes things easy from here on.

I spent an hour trying to catch Articuno in Red last week. Forgot how tough they were in the older games.
Didn't catch it; fainted it and moved on.
Man, I ended up looking up catching ratios to see what I could do to make it easier. Apparently there is a glitch in the 2nd generation where only sleep affects your ability to catch a pokemon, burn, freeze and paralysis don't affect them as they should.
Also the wiggle method with the buttons I believed as a kid is completely bogus hah.

I hit level 17 within the first week and then stopped playing. My first pokestop is 12 km away and gym is like 20 km. Nothing in walking distance and the game is too grindy to play alone over here, so it's like, eh. I don't even bother now.
If I lived closer to some areas, for sure.
And yeah, I was hooked like crazy at first. I spent $46 in the shop to get to that level, more or less. Though if I could do it again, I'd have just bought Lucky Eggs and a lot of Pokeballs and used them from the beginning. No incense.

Yeah for now it's capped at 30. It definitely is a grind. I'm in permanent egg and incense mode cause where I live there's not many stops around.

The reason that the name change is in there is it was in the old games and the show (or movie? idr). It's not something that they would patch, that just doesn't make sense.It's from the show and I agree it just doesn't make any sense to put it there in the first place if they planned to take it out.

I actually had all my purchases refunded on GO due to the massive changes and bugs, i only asked apple for one refund instead they refunded every single purchase which was like $40 in total.

Sweet! I pretty much only catch pokemon while I'm picking up my son from school or my wife from work ;)
I get a few walking to the station in the morning, and again home from the station in the afternoon, hence my egg-hatching exploits.
I can also get a few from the back window at work where there are two Pokestops that are usually accessible after a few seconds of standing at the back window.
It's starting to get a bit slow progressing through the levels - I think you really have to start going to gyms after a certain point, otherwise it is starting to become a balancing act of catching Pokemon and dropping potions so I can collect more Poke balls.

I should have known that. I was being lazy and didn't check before posting. It's tricky sometimes. It took me a while to figure out 'Magikarp' is pronounced 'Use-less-until-evolved'.

Just don't download the newest update (0.37). The one before, 0.35, still works. Unfortunately I didn't know that until I updated so I had to find an APK.
It's definitely because of location spoofing, but that's just dumb. Most botters and spoofers play on the computer through Bluestacks or Nox. Not only that, you can location spoof without rooting your phone. What they've done is just shut out quite a large userbase in a scorched earth policy to try and prevent cheaters. It's asinine.

I love that PoGo actively makes me combat my laziness. I needed to run errands, which I've easily could've done by car, but that way I couldn't put Paras as my buddy out and get that last candy I needed. I love that a game is making me exercise.

We went to Cook's Cottage in Fitzroy Gardens one day during these school holidays (and during my convalescence), and just outside there were three Poke Stops, all with lures, and about 100 random people all sitting around on their smartphones.
Coincidence?
I think not :))
That was a good day, but I had to keep looking at the cottage.

But speaking of pokemon, I fixed a pokemon Gold game today, I had saved from being throw in a ex-neighbours bin about 10 years ago, just found it out again after tidying up some stuff, and tried to play it and it was all jumbled mess when loading (I somewhat remember the my friend saying it was being throw because it was broken) but after cracking it open and reading up a bit people said the MBC chip might have a few iffy connections, cracked out the soldering iron, reflowed the joint and everythings working again perfectly :D pretty good to say I saved it from being binned 10 years ago lol, just needs a new battery is all

Also using a lucky egg and the double XP, I managed to get 60,000 XP in 15 minutes. Lots of evolving into new pokemon and other evolutions too.

On even better news Amazon Spain restocked the Pokemon go Plus last week and I managed to snag one, already been shipped, then the day after Nintendo UK had them on order again and managed to snag one of those too, now to see which turns up first

Yeah, it was a seriously frantic 15 minutes. It was during the double XP event though, and I had saved up about 300 Rattata and Pidgey candies. Also had a Venonat, Paras, Horsea, Meowth and some other first time evolutions so got the XP for new pokemon as well.
I've been using the new app for the Apple Watch which is pretty cool. I use it when I'm at work to just add a little distance to my buddy and egg hatches.

While there have been a lot of improvements since 2016, the main things holding the game back are still a mediocre battle and gym system, even after the rework, and the lack of strategy due to how Niantic got rid of Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense by merging them, which left many Pokemon without a use. As it stands, you can just use 6 Mewtwo if you want, which is silly.
Could've been one of the best games of all time with original Pokemon stats and turn-based battle system, but alas.
