OK, gamers. in Left 4 Dead (#1 if it matters),

  • Is there a way to get computer-controlled survivors to pick up and use molotov's and pipe bombs?
  • What is the purpose of the T target decal?
  • Do all four personalities offer the human player the same experience? Are any faster or more robust, or are they just commodities?
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

I've never seen the AI use throwing weapons or the grenade launcher. I assume that they could not get the AI working in a satisfactory way, and given that it's mainly a multiplayer game, they obviously didn't think it worth their time...

1.) The AI does what it will. It will pick up and use grenades, sometimes, but not often, and you can't tell them when.

2.) ?

3.) All characters play the same, you just get slightly different weapons animations, and different dialog (like when you look at a weapon and your character says "Weapons over here!")

Wait, maybe I've seen them use grenades, probably just rarely. It's that they never seen to pick up the grenade launcher, or, IIRC, other special weapons like the M60.

No, they never use special weapons.

Speaking of, is this L4D or L4D2?

T
When I press T a grey bulls eye appears on the object in my crosshairs. I expected it to change the attack target of the computer AI survivors, but it didn't appear to do that.

T is "tag" or spraypaint, which sprays an image of your choice onto any non-dynamic surface (so that excludes doors and the like). I'm looking up how to implement your own images now.

Hated this game, the ai is horrid.  Either the zombies are nearly impossible to fight or they're too easy.  Still haven't tried the second one.  Do want to fight zombies.  Really loving the new anime High School of the Dead. lol  There needs to be a High School of the Dead game.

I'll play versus with you if this is L4D2. Don't bother with single player because Valve thinks the definition of good AI is giving them aimbot.

  • Nope, they use them as they will.
  • You can change the spray under the game options although it can be picky about the files it takes (sometimes it gets fussy and won't import an image you can view in other applications)
  • For the player, no. For the computer, yes, there are slight behavioral differences. Zoey will take a hunting rifle when tier 2 weapons appear, for instance.

I figured as much.  In the future, you must have built a time machine, and you went back to the 90's, but your time machine broke and you can never get back.  That's why you only like games from the 90's.

As for me, I don't play games on my computer much, mostly on my iPod Touch and on my Nintendo Wii.  However, I will say that this Left 4 Dead game looks pretty interesting.

Heh, he can build another time machine from all of his old computers. The "gateway 1990" time machine, lol.

Any time machine made from such obsolete hardware could only send you back in time.

Cool! I'd love to walk into a store where the shelves are all lined with boxes of DOS games... all the ultima series... imagine. That would be amazing.
Pity when I was a kid I never paid attention to games until later on at around 2000. 1997/1998 was excellent for games.

There's a difference between obsolete and quality. A lot of the old stuff can still contend with the newer equipment -- I get some kind of sadistic pleasure to see how well my old hardware can outperform new stuff.

Come on you 5150! Load that windows 7! If only...

I tried installing Windows 7 onto my old Compaq Presario 4764, but apparently 80mb of RAM isn't enough to load Windows Setup.

Nah, took a walk around my area of the city (vBulletin says I made that post 5 hours ago, it is now going on 2AM). Had some KFC (which was part of my arrangement with SKCheng...is he still around?).

Alright fine, Windows Live Messenger.

Finally made the shift to 14 (newest full release) and I'm not enjoying it. I had previously been using a modified copy of an older version to trick the service into letting it connect, but I was slowly losing features and stability as time passed.

Check out Emesene for Windows. It's an open source clone of WLM, and it's actually a good bit better than the official one. For one, it doesn't crash alot.

If you use a webcam, you may have issues though. MS ****s around with the camera protocol so often that the 3rd party clients never quite have perfect support.
