i put a new mesh band on my 'nicer' watch:

it's not as nice as the original and it's a bit slimmer but it was only $10. we'll see how long it lasts.

Besides, it's not too expensive in comparison to other Rolex's, and it's being bought as a milestone birthday present/ last a lifetime piece.

Anyway, just be glad I'm not getting an iced out 18ct gold Daytona or DD President.

As a person who has owned a Rolex and a Jaeger LeCoultre reverso for some time, I can honestly say that although they cost a lot of money (relative to my income at least) I haven't had a single day where I have regretted the purchases yet. In fact, I don't even think I can point towards one other thing that I've spent a similar amount of money on which gave me as much pleasure over time. - Maybe my first car, since it held up forever without any maintenance, but that was a necessity purchase of an ugly beater car. Anyways, I digress..

i dont like cloth bands. i ordered a couple of stainless bands on ebay to try out... will post pics when everything is delivered.

i dont like cloth bands. i ordered a couple of stainless bands on ebay to try out... will post pics when everything is delivered.

I have that watch on a black leather band. I think it looks great.

It was actually a gift, so not sure. The green dots are leds. They are on when the winding is active. the knobs change the direction of the winding (or turn it off).

Thanks. As you might have suspected, I didn't know what a watch winder was. Very cool! I have a swatch collection but no automatic as of yet. I did buy one once, but it came with the wrong strap so I returned it

Nothing beats the oldschool Casio Illuminator for me. It's cheaper to just replace it every few years than buy a new strap and battery!

Maybe you guys can advise. I'm looking for an analog quartz watch, trying to cheap out on it big time. I don't want to pay for complications or anything. Slim, low-key, not necessarily formal but maybe something I could get away with in any given situation; i.e., no wannabe Epic Explorer gear. I'm really gunning for something that doesn't have numbers, like this:

I'm eyeballing the Timex Weekender but it would be the most I could spend, if that. I've done my scouring but maybe I've overlooked the perfect match. Any suggestions?

I wonder if that uses the same pin system as usual. Could just get a decent nylon strap for it. This might be what I'm looking for except I don't usually go for metal straps.

Now this last one is kind of sexy. It turns me on so much that I may be willing to ignore certain design elements, like numbers. I find numbers on a watch patronizing but that's a me problem. And I know what I said about complications but I do space out and forget what day it is. I just can't shake the feeling that I'm going to find the perfect thing too late.

Like several GHer obviously, I do have a Submariner:

(it's a 14060M from 2005 which is non-COSC: it only has two lines of text instead of four on later models)

I do also have a very nice Orient Star which I'll post once I get my hands on a picture of it.
