GMK Alexandria

Intro

“There is no wealth like knowledge, no poverty like ignorance.” Ali ibn Abi Talib

From us here at KeyLabs, an IC for a set we’ve been working on for some time now - GMK Alexandria.
This keyset takes its namesake from the Great Library of Alexandria - a tribute to the preservation of guiding principles like truth, knowledge, and wisdom.
The color palette evokes imagery of texts from a bygone era, with yellowed pages and worn leather bindings - yet standing the test of time.

Alexandria is an homage to great GMK sets of yore - and by that I mean actually fairly recently in the grand scheme of things, but let’s go with it.
What we determine to be “true” evolves over time, and the human pursuit of knowledge is ongoing.
Alexandria will mirror that concept. Nothing you see here is final, this is an interest check after all.

Fixes have been applied to the base kit render. A more finalized version with row labeling will be coming at some point, with the next batch of kit / on keeb renders  :thumb:

Thanks! Tab is also text & icon, but you're largely right. Given the theming of the set, I didn't feel that a fully minimal approach to mod text would be suitable (even though that's my personal preference), the current iteration is an attempt to meet somewhere in the middle of the minimal look & full text / icons. Happy to hear out other opinions and refine it as necessary though!

Interesting idea, but I would recommend swapping the mods to brown and the accepts to be the burnt orange colour. It will be easier to pair with more boards.

I like it, reminds me GMK - Plum. Nice novelties. Couple comments

- Addition of  greek legend kit?
- Inconsistency in mods, icon + text is kind of odd.
- Some mods are one liner and some others aren't. eg: Pg Dn / Pause Break
- Not sure about the real benefit of 2 x 1u R4 Ctrl/Alt. 1 of each is enough.
- If you're going of minimal kitting i'd add spacebars : 2.75U 2.25U 2U too.

Thanks for writing this up! To reply to a couple points, Greek alphas (either mono or sublegends) is planned as long as there is enough interest. Will be doing a sweep through the mod text to refine these, I like the verbosity of some of the mod texts for the theme (like Pause Break), but I agree that it's visually jarring.

Extra 1u Ctrl/Alt will likely come off the base kit when/if we add a 40s kit. Extra spacebars will likely be in their own kit!

Greek legends are planned first as we felt they match the theming of the set the best, but happy to consider Arabic sublegends as well pending interest, I do love the look of those too!

Base kit is being reworked with a few changes based on internal discussions and poll feedback, see main post for details  ;)

Happy Thanksgiving folks! Thread updated with a new base kit render that fixes a lot of issues, as well as some more keyboard renders. Currently working on developing the child kits and hoping to update again with additional renders soon. Thank you for all the feedback so far!
