No love for the metals yourself? I would think that the girlshark would be interested, especially since this year a research group accidentally discovered that sharks are attracted to vibrations of death metal music played underwater.

I used to be very into metal. My brain just isn't functioning enough to post a good reply yet.
Metal fan since high school here, listened to a lot of metal sub genres from thrash, death, black, metalcore, power, etc. Discovered Alestorm this year and have been enjoying them.
Looking forward to see Cannibal Corpse and Cryptopsy this March at Orlando, FL!
Alestorm is great, that's true. I like a lot of bands, and if it is metal or not I don't care that much. I like Kyuss, Graveyard, Color Haze, in general stoner rock. And psychedelic rock!

limp bizkit is my favorite rock band
I've slipped out of the 'know' a bit over the last few years. Right now I find myself only listening to bands I've know for quite a while... I should fix that.
Some of these cross over into other generes other the straight metal, but w/e:
Cult of Luna - favorite band of all time. Whole back catalog is great. 'The Beyond' changed my whole view on heavy music
Isis - RIP, amazing live band.
Wolves in the Throne Room - one of the best live performances I've seen in the last few years
Baroness - new album is killer
High on Fire - unstoppable chugging
Clutch - drinking and rocking go hand in hand
3 Inches of Blood - not sure of their newer stuff, but about 8-9 years ago they were shredding
Animals as Leaders - best tech shred in the game
Between the Buried and Me - new ablums are good, but a while back they opened for Dillinger Escape plan and played 5 songs off 'Colors' in a row, flawless
The Ocean - these guys crashed at my place before :D
Mastodon - Pretty much all great stuff
The Black Dahlia Murder - my fave from the melodic death metal style
Pig Destroyer - sick, their later stuff is a lot easier to listen to and have some awesome grooves
Just heard Animals as Leaders, holy **** they are good.
So a listing of metal stuff I enjoy:
Generic Stuff:
- Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Godsmack, HammerFall, Holywood Undead, In Flames, KoRn, Limp Bizkit, M.Manson, Maximum The Hormone, P.O.D. , Pantera, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Static-X
Recent discovery:
- Five Finger Death Punch, Alestorm, From Autumn To Ashes, Lamb of God, Dark Tranquility, Disarmonia Mundi
Discovered some stoner rock like TruckFighters, Mastodon, weedeater this summer in a fest. Always liked this kind of stuff through Tool, A perfect Circle.
French Stuff :
- Dagoba, Black Bomb A, Eths
Harcore (and subgenre)
- Body count, Citizen, Code Orange, Comeback Kid, Defeater, Bring Me The Horizon, Madball, More Than A Thousand, Nasty, No Bragging Rights, Obey the Brave, Terror, Rise of The North Star , Stick To Your Guns
And ofc all the good old stuff like metallica, motörhead, slayer, ...
I'm mostly into Hardcore nowadays, Comeback Kid, Defeater, Bring Me The Horizon & Terror being bands I could listen all day long.
Also this summer can't come soon enough :Show Image(http://151.80.25.183/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/line-up-2016.png)

Is this all instrumental? Sounds like it could be a welcome addition to my work playlist.
You guys had time to listen to the new Fleshgod Apocalypse album that came out yesterday?
It's super solid.
Where do I even start :p
lets start with some soft stuff and move on to heavier afterwards

Yup, everything [Scale The Summit] make is instrumental
In Flames
In Flames
They used to be my end-all-be-all band. I'd see them every time they were in NJ/NY/PA. I could play all their songs on guitar, I'd sit and play along to an album front to back... But after their latest releases, especially the newest and them going full "KoRn" style, I can't even listen to them anymore. It's depressing. :(

Well many of my favorites have been mentioned (Maiden, The Black Dahlia Murder, Between the Buried and Me, Darkest Hour). But I don't see Allaegeon, Rivers of Nihil, Power Trip, Mindset, or No Warning :D. OH AND I FORGOT ABOUT REVOCATION.
I definitely consider myself a metalhead before anything else and I try to see as many concerts as I can get to. I only hit like 20 last year and I've passed up 4 already this year because of work :(.

Where do you usually go to see them? Do you travel far or wait for stuff to come to within a couple hour radius of you? I have seen a few in Detroit, a few in Grand Rapids, and a few in Chicago but none anywhere else.

God damn Revocation is awesome. When their album Deathless came out I think I listened to "Labyrinth of Eyes" on repeat for days straight.
So for whoever has signed up for Protest the Hero's bandcamp thing, how have you been liking the new music? I've absolutely loved all three songs so far, I think Ragged Tooth is still my favorite (but Cold Water is a close second). I also really love that they're doing different art for each release (all of which has been great).

I found the band sleep recently and I'm really enjoying them. Anyone here have any recommendations for stoner/doom metal bands. I know of Electric Wizards already but haven't had much time to check them out.
Thanks dude, I have found myself prefering slower music lately. Not metal but definetly an artist to check out is Steven Wilson, the album The raven that refused to sing (and other stories) is one of my favourite albums. The funny thing is that for a couple of year I went back to it and never understood why people liked this album, it was only recently that I came to enjoy his work. I currently own both The raven that refused to sing and Hand. Cannot. Erase on vinyl and will most likely get his other work in the future. I wish I had a better turntable *sigh*I found the band sleep recently and I'm really enjoying them. Anyone here have any recommendations for stoner/doom metal bands. And Conan.
Also, Bongzilla.
I used to have a friend in high school who listened to metal (Metallica and Slayer mostly). Hated his taste. I was into electronic music at the time, and firmly believed that guitars are obsolete and will die out within a decade.
Then, one night in 1996 or 1997, I was sitting alone in a dark room, gloomy and under the weather, to say the least. The TV was on, and a song started to play. It gave me the chills. The kind where you immerse yourself into the music like a lucid dream. The song was Hope from Anathema, and I've been a fan ever since.
This changed my taste in music a lot, and I opened up to pretty much all kinds of music: I listen to metal, classical music, electronic, and so on and so forth. But metal has a sweet spot in my heart. We even had some metal playing during the dinner at our wedding.
To name a few favourites: Anathema, My Dying Bride, Theatre of Tragedy, Therion, Thy Catafalque, Gire, Blind Guardian, Rotting Christ, Cradle of Filth - and I could continue for hours.

Also here is an idea to give this thread some traction. What are your favourite metal music videos?
Mine is Tool's Schism
there is just something weird about it that makes me love it. But to be honest all their videos are like this. They are all unique and interesting.
*Edit* I just watched the Parabola video for the first time and wow I don't know why I hadn't watched it.

Oh man, I saw Psyopus with The Acacia Strain, Job For A Cowboy, Daath, and I think See You Next Tuesday back in 06/07 in NYC. I remember almost NOT making it into the show cause I didn't bring my ID with me like an idiot. I figured I wouldn't need it for a 16+ show. Two tough black dudes checking IDs; I ask them to let me in and they shut me down. I saw some lady standing off to the side with a headset and ended up sweet talking her into letting me and my friend in. What a show.

Mariner is a collaborative studio album between the Swedish band Cult of Luna and the American vocalist Julie Christmas, formerly of the bands Made Out of Babies and Battle of Mice. Serving as Cult of Luna's seventh studio album and the first time Christmas has appeared on the entirety of a full-length album since her 2010 solo debut The Bad Wife, Mariner will be released on April 8, 2016 through Indie Recordings. Contrasting the industrial city themes of Cult of Luna's last studio efforts, Vertikal and Vertikal II from 2013, Mariner focuses its concept on space exploration.

Def interesting. Still not sure how I feel about Julie Christmas in general, haven't decided.
You like Isis (the band obviously) at all?
You lucky bastard. I've heard they are amazing live. If it was 2009 you might have heard them play this song? Probably one of my favorite songs regardless even outside of metal.Mariner - Cult of Luna

One my favorite bands. Interesting release.QuoteMariner is a collaborative studio album between the Swedish band Cult of Luna and the American vocalist Julie Christmas, formerly of the bands Made Out of Babies and Battle of Mice. Yeah, I think Julie does a cool job, I just prefer the bands normal sound :-\
Isis are great. Lucky enough to have seen them live in 2009(?).
Despised Icon is back with a new album on July 22nd!
Recently I've been more and more into SDBM cause its so chilled out, nice long growls and amazing guitar solos, my current favourite two of the genre/same sound is Thy Light and Foreresse
Also here is a playlist of some awesome music

anybody here into power metal?
I used to be pretty into power metal when me and my buddies all played WoW and other MMOs, something about it goes quite well with MMOs.

Yeah as I was posting I realized how many bands used that font. Skeletonwitch sprang to mind too :).
Not sure how I feel about this.... I mean it's Gojira, so I want to like it. But I dont know.I completely agree with you I can't make up my mind on this one either. On one side I rather kind of enjoyed it and felt it was a good gojira song. On the other hand: meh.
I think I've come to the conclusion that I don't really like it. I hope the album turns out better though...Not sure how I feel about this.... I mean it's Gojira, so I want to like it. They played a small venue and it was awesome. Always great to catch shows in small rooms. The vibe is always better.

Jamen halløjsovs,
They were pretty good live, although the show got sabotaged by some antifa-hippie sound-guy so it took a long time for them to get ready.
They pretty much left early out of annoyance of the revenue and because there was a gang of antifa members on their way to beat up the frontman of the band.
All in all it was a good show, a bit ****ed up, but good.
More new Revocation. So goooooood
And I just picked up Converge's Thousands of Miles Between Us. Because Converge is the ****.
Oh I'm feeling this for sure. Never heard of Revocation for some reason (I honestly have been lookin' for stuff just never come across them).

That Expire album is pretty good. I've given it a few spins. Haven't got a chance to listen to all of the new ETID, but from what I've heard, I dug it.
Been on quite the Ghost kick lately. Their new EP came out last week. I've been listening to them on and off for a few years but after finally being able to see them live last weekend, I have a new appreciation for them. So good!

Sweet Leaf, N.I.B, The Wizard, Children of the Grave, and Paranoid are all great songs but they have plenty more.
I left my band at the beginning of this year because I got bored of it. We were a sludge, stoner, heavy rock kind of thing. Did ok with it. Got to tour Canada last October. I basically have since filled my time with keyboard stuff (so rock n roll). Now I'm itching to start a new band again.
Here's a vid from my band if you're interested, the song is based on true life prostitution that goes on in my garden:
no activity in here really but thank god DEP added the third show date to their farewell shows. Managed to pick up a few tickets for the 27th :D :D :D
