Artisan Cap of the Month (January) - Poll Closed
« on: Thu, 04 February 2016, 08:59:59 »
I am sorry, I forgot about this poll! Looks like Booper's Keywok took the limelight in this particular vote (after being forced into the running by some miscreants). I'd like to start taking nominations for this month, which will close some time in the first week of March. As I have mentioned before I would like to add some more categories to this and get some discussion going. We've seen at least three new makers join the playing field these first couple of months, and I know we're all looking to see what the established makers have in store for us.

Now I ask you, what else should we vote on for February's Artisan of the Month? Design detail, design innovation, etc. Essentially, why else do we like the artisan caps besides "looking pretty"?

January Information
More
Nominations are in and it's time to vote. Any maker that had more than one design up for nomination had the design chosen for polling via coin flip. Should there ever be more than two designs I'll use an online number generator or something of that nature to select one.

The poll shall be open until Friday, February 19th. There's still a lot more we can do with this sort of thing, and I'd like to have more categories and discussion in the future. The fact of the matter is it's hard to pick just one, especially when we consider everything that goes into the design, and eventually the sale, of these caps. So without further ado, vote away.  :D

Current poll list:
Binge/Hunger Works Studios - Polar Ice Keyng

Booper - Keywok

BroCaps - TR8-0R Reaper V2

Gloyz! - Zarkos (Fancy)

KeyKollectiv - Kill-Wala (full album here)

Suited Up Keycaps - Keybuto

Old information:
More
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Artisan Cap of the Month nominations!

After some discussion about this we've decided to go ahead and get this thread officially started. I'd like to keep things simple and civil, so try to avoid debating someone's decision. We all like what we like and this is a very opinion-heavy topic.

Rules:
1) The artisan cap to be nominated must have been created/put up for sale in January. If a cap was shown in December but not sold/raffled off until January, that's fine. If a cap was shipped in February but was sold in January, that's also fine.
2) We are nominating individual caps, so please make your nomination in the following format to keep it simple for me: Maker's name/brand - full keycap name. Example: BroCaps - TR8-0R Reaper V2, KeyKollectiv - Key-Wala, etc.
3) You may make as many nominations as you like. However, I will only be selecting one keycap per artisan maker for the final poll. I have not yet decided on how this decision will be made. Maybe via random number generator. I'll accept suggestions.
4) Please be civil. As I said before, this is all an opinion and being done for fun. Let's enjoy it.  :thumb:

I'll try to keep the following list in alphabetical order.

Current nomination list:
Binge/Hunger Works Studios - Polar Ice Keyng
Binge/Hunger Works Studios - Polar Ice Skullthulu
Booper - Enraged Bruce
Booper - Keywok
BroCaps - TR8-0R Reaper V2
Gloyz! - Zarkos (Fancy)
KeyKollectiv - Key-Wala
KeyKollectiv - Kill-Wala
Suited Up Keycaps - Duke
Suited Up Keycaps - Keybuto

Artisan Cap of the Month (January) - Nominations

Is this by sculpt or by "release"? For example, the Reaper V2 is not a new sculpt in January, but the Tr8-0r colorway is. Next month, could the next new colorway be nominated? Just looking for clarification.  :thumb:

Edit: the other implication of this clarification is that a nomination for Key-Wala would or would not require a colorway name to go along with it.  :)

Don't quote me on this, but my understanding is to keep it high level and vote on caps that were sold during that month. No specific colorways necessarily - it seems by design.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

In which case, I would like to nominate Suited Up Keycaps - Keybuto. Really sad I missed out on this cap and I think it's really unbelievable for a first sale, the design, functionality, how clean it looks.

Good point! I think we should go by release. So any old sculpt but in a new colorway will still count (otherwise we'd cut down on our pool by a bit). And you are correct, a Key-Wala nomination would not require a colorway name.

However, I do realize the implication this may have for some releases. For example, I've seen that previous BroCaps sales released multiple Reaper or BBv2 colorways in the same sale. In a situation like that I think I would just want the general sale name, such as "Easter sale" or something like that. So for the Key-Walas this would be the "Gummy" sale, or something like that.

It's so hard to choose! I'd have to vote for the Bruce, Keywok, or Keybuto. The Bruce is "cleaner" than the Keywok, but the Keywok seems to be a huge advance in keycap design. It's so detailed.

And so are the Keybuto and Duke, but I'm siding with the Keybuto this month.

Excellent idea! It's hard to pick one if you don't know what they look like. XD

I'll hunt down photos now.
