Title: FF is 26 watts
Post by: tp4tissue on Sun, 28 November 2021, 21:50:40
Just noticed, if I open firefox,  just the homepage,  +26 watts.

Whuddup with that ? GPU ?   hidden miner ?

Old version 47.x.x  doesn't do that.

Yeah something happened with a FF update a month or so ago, everyone has noticed and the FF team isn't doing **** about it.
I am almost certain there's some spyware or reporting software in this version, because you don't just sit on an inactive blank home page and use 40% RAM, 20% CPU, and 12% GPU doing nothing at all. Something is up for sure.

isn't it the version that introduced the vpn? i am mainly using ff and had noticed that every new update is a downgrade since quantum pretty much, but then i disable all the crap they add on top too so still somewhat ok, and as long as chrome keeps on wanting to load all the tabs at once it will be useless to me, so keeping on FF.
although how did you measure the power consumption of FF?
