A lot of questions regarding novelties, 40s, icon kits etc -
This is all within the realm of possibilities (novelties least likely, as I am not a fan of them). I am also considering a NorDeUK kit if there's enough interest.

I started small with just two kits with the base necesseties, since I wasn't sure of the reception. It could've been a flop and have barely any interest, so I didn't bother constructing more kits.
SO - if you want specific kits to be made, please voice it here in the thread, I am listening and open to your feedback!

The philosophy behind it is to accentuate keys without being "in your face" about it. It is a subtle change in hue, all the while adding character and charm to the set.

It would be great to have a novelties kit with the firefly theme, since it's all kind of summer-y feeling. If there is more accents using that peach, light blue and purple colors, I would totally buy it as well. Great looking set overall.

I agree, I think it'd be better if the spacebars were included in the base kit. It's already pretty sparse, and there are keys that need to be moved from it to the numpad kit anyway (the 1800 compat I previously mentioned).

noted your philosophy on the design, but i suspect it would also look really nice if all the mods had blue font and the purple was saved for more traditional accents (i.e. purple esc & enter keys)!

As for novelties and artisans, I likely won't be adding any - sorry! I am personally not a fan, and by GMK Nines I learned that I can't deliver on something I have no interest in. It wouldn't turn out good.

NorDeUK, 40s and other kits are still a possibility down the line! If you want these, please voice it here (No google form for feedback as many entries are not serious, and many do not take time to fill it out properly).

I just realized that R1 Del should be kept in the base kit for 65% compat, so keep that in mind. But the order two keys are still useless without a numpad.

Very interesting concept, although I find the choice of keys to (subtly) accent to be quite unusual. We'll all OF COURSE have differing opinions on this, but if Caps Lock and Tab are accented, then an accented ISO Enter key would be practically screaming to be added. I think, similarly to PvtSkittles, that accenting F5 to F8 would also be visually interesting. Again: IMHO, YMMV, WDIKAA.


I do have one observation that is not strictly subjective, though: for full US ISO(/ANSISO/ISANSI) support, an R4 \| keycap should be added (or, if necessary, have the R4 <>| key replaced with it... but hopefully both can stay).

I completely understand you not liking artisan caps. If you decide to change your mind, I think I might have some ideas for you.
Take GMK Cafe for example, on of the caps is a little coffee bean, not the RAMA caps.
I think a tiny fire fly outline the same color as the legends would be nice?

Thank you! You don't have to worry about contrast issues at all, the colors are on the opposite sides of the contrast scale (and pass several contrast algorithms). A dark and a light color rarely has legibility issues. Here are the colors converted to grayscale:


While not crisp like pure white on black, it won't be having any contrast issues.

As for the ISO-UK, unfortunately due to the idea of having a minimized base, you'll have to get the UK ISO keys through the NorDeUK kit.

Me and Macsurfy were playing around with some accents for fun, but I decided at the time that it goes against the general aesthetic that I am aiming for. Here's a test render for fun:


Imo it's too "in your face", and doesn't match the general design idea of a calm set. (I also played around with the purple and lighter blue as well).

I might play around with accents more, but it's not in my immediate plans to offer it.

The soft purple might end up working well. I'm not really pushing for accent keys like that, but its a thought.

I actually really really like the accents kit. If the accents were offered in the esc, spacebar and enter, it would be an immediate buy for me and a great option to add more color and you can still keep the base kit as you visioned it but I understand if it goes against your idea for the kit. I prefer the subtle purple texted accents you have in the original pitch in comparison to changing the base color of the caps. However, I think I also prefer having those purple accent texts on the more typical accented keys (esc/caps/enter/backspace/arrows) over the ctrl,alt and the \, tab.

Alright, so I tinkered with the kits - and in order to offer 40s, I decided to remove the spacebar kit. Please offer some feedback on the final kits:

Basekit:
Changes: Swapped out ISO R3 key for ISO Nordic '* in order to remove a key from the nordeuk kit.


Numpad kit:
Changes: removed the spacebar kit and moved the split spacebars + alice B to the 40s kit


Nordeuk kit:


Accent kit:
Concious decision to keep the purple accents in the base, it's "THE ARTISTIC VISION" for firefly. Sorry for being stubborn


40s kit:
I know nothing about 40s, this kit is made through research from other 40s kits like peaches n cream

I have ordered RAL samples to confirm the colors prior to moving into the GB. I want to confirm the colors in person as well, to avoid any unecessary delays once GB hits.

Lovely set. As some others have pointed out, I'd also like to have standard colors for the \ | key and `~ key.
Accent keys look fine to me, but I'd love to see the spacebar in pink as well if that doesn't add too much cost to the kit :>

Thank you! I hope it is great in person too, still waiting on the RALs I ordered. They were available only as "back order", which means they order it on demand to themselves, and then it is shipped to me (not in stock ccontinuously). We'll see!

Received the RAL samples. In some lighting they look good and close, but in normal warm temperature lighting indoors it's a shade or so off from what I want it to be.

Sun had already set when I looked, so I'll have a better look tomorrow in some more lighting conditions. I will also ask my colleague to take some properly white balanced shots for me in indirect outdoors lighting and we'll see.

In any case, the end result will be close to the renders, even though looking at something at a screen and IRL will always be different. I won't accept  colors which are off.

Yes, sorry. It was part of the process and I did consider it, but ultimately it would result in too many keys. It means I'd have to have duplicates in the NorDeUK-kit as well as pipeslash.

RAL samples, outdoors and in an office setting:




5011-p and the peach will need some tweaking together with GMK. They are not quite like I had expected, but there are no closer RALs as I ordered multiple shades of the same color just in case.

Set will look close to the renders, regardless of what the RAL code might be in the end.

I mean, it's a second run.  Except for not having the Norde kit, this is all as it previously was in the original run best I can tell.  Can't help but wonder if the Norde set didn't sell well originally or perhaps simply didn't even hit MOQ.  Perhaps we have different expectations for additional runs of keycaps, but for me, I expect at most small tweaks to kits vs any meaningful overhaul to the kitting or design.  Changes to novelties or available artisans fall within that spectrum.  Wholesale changes to support new kits less so.

Curious what's giving you pause as it likely would have been originally an issue (unless of course it's the lack of Nordes)?

GMK is swamped with orders, there are a couple dozen sets they need to finish before they can even think of starting to manufacture this, a handful of new GBs run every month, plus the pandemic didn't help either.

Also, I'm not sure if this has been resolved yet (or I might be misinformed), they had alot of employees that took paid leave for whatever reason.

More or less a triple whammy:

- Huge backlog of sets ahead of it, dating back a year now.  Did a quick search and the sets that I have had pending the longest date back to almost 16 months ago, let alone all the sets that have gone through GB since then.
- Resin shortage, unsure if impacting just GMK or others to some degree as well.  Have noticed other manufacturers starting to have longish lead times as well-- not GMK long, but noticeable.
- General covid related logistics ****ery-- e.g. shortages of shipping containers, loading docks having minimal crew due to illness, etc.
