[GB] Hadron V3 groupbuy a 72 keys ortholinear keyboard
« on: Sun, 27 January 2019, 06:35:26 »
Its finally here!

EU proxy through mykeyboard

After the last pilot run of hadron v2, I went back to the drawing board and took user feedbacks on what they wished could be improved upon. Hadron V3 has been redesigned from scratch to include some of the newest developments in the mechanical keyboard community.

There were a lot of interest in a "full sized" version of the hadron V2, which was cherry ML switches only with a 18x18 spacing. The original Hadron was designed to be the lowest profiled mechanical keyboard, and did not have room for MX switches. Since I was redesigning the V3 from the ground up, I set aside the space needed to allow for MX switch implementation without adding too much height to the overall design. The Hadron V3 is slightly taller than the V2 (at 17mm tall with choc switches and keycaps, only 2mm taller than the V2).

list of features:

mcu upgraded to STM32F303, an ARM cortex-M4 32 bit processor running at 72mhz with 256kb of flash

Multi-socket support, solderless installation for either MX (with an optional adapter plate) or choc (kailh low profile) switches.

    USB-C with ESD protection

    built-in speaker

    OLED display

CNC aluminum mid-profile (for choc) / low profile (with optional MX plate) case

    RGB underglow

Haptic feedback (yes that cellphone-like rumble can now let you know that you are at the actuation point)

lipo charging circuit (for future expansions

Optional MX switch plate set:

This set will include a bead-blasted stainless steel top plate, and a laser-cut brass spacer to add heft to the board for those who wants to use only MX switches. You may use MX switches without these plate, especially if you want to mix and match MX with choc switches, but they will only be mount to the PCB and will pull out easily. The switch plate set will be screwed in from the top and for conversion to a low profile MX board.

Pricing:

HadronV3 barebone kit (everything except switches and keycaps) - $255

    MX plate set - $25

Timeline:

This is a tentative timeline, but as the nature of group buys, there may be unforeseeable delays. I will do my best to ensure that we meet this goal.

    Group buy: 1/27 to 2/24

    Manufacturing: 2/27 to mid-May?

Sorting, testing and final assembly: mid-May - June

    Expected ship date: June 1st

Holy cow! This is the most featureful >50% ortholinear I have ever seen! Better processor, RGB, USB-C, OLED, speaker, HAPTIC FEEDBACK, DUAL-MX/CHOC HOTSWAP - all features I love to see. XD75re, eat your heart out.

Only improvement I can think of would be a Qwiic (I2C) JST-PH connector expansion like with newer OLKB PCBs have. That's currently my ticket for having a joystick mouse integrated with my Preonic.

Hopefully will have the $$$ by Feb 24 close.

I am incredibly excited for this GB :)
As soon as I saw the post, I ordered.

This has so many features and will definitely be my go-to ortho for the future.

The footprint for the jst-sh port does exist next to the USB:

don't exactly have a case planned around it yet though. I can always provide the case file if or even design it if there is enough interest

I would check out novelkeys.xyz that's where I got the switches and white set from in the photo

I like the idea, but the lack of a 2u  (or larger than 1u) space is a hard sell for me. I'll have to think on it for a while, since 2u POS-style keys can be awkward.
Oh god why did my wallet get so thin

Where can I get caps for the Kalih low profile switches to use on this board?

Are you going to do international shipping to Australia? I was going to put through an order, but your site only does US and mykeyboards only does EU.

Well boys, it seems Ishtob forgot to actually announce it, but they are shipping now. Mine arrives this Thursday.
I long for the day when I find a beamspring. (At a not insane price)

i just got mine, and this f*ing thing feels like the future!

it all comes together easy, i got the extra cherry plate (didnt even realize it came with the extra brass plate for spacer).  just a heads up, screws are Torx 6 star shape and not allen/hex!

T6, actually. Literally the only non-phillips head I've managed to strip.

ok, got mine together and flashed with my custom map, but that seems to have disabled the underglow?  i tried toggling them but they don't come on, and if i turn it on the the rules.mk i get a compile error.

is there a discord for ishtob?

No server I know of, but his discord is Ishtob#9791
From what I got from my interaction with him earlier getting mine to flash properly, RGB isn't fully working yet.

thanks.  the RGB came on out of the box (but the layout was too different from my normal one!), i saw some notes in the source but couldn't resolve that with it working the first time!

Yeah, it worked out of the box, but the commands didn't work for disabling it after I flashed it. I had to get the original bin from Ishtob himself, turn it off, and reflash my bin.

Will there be a v4? I got back into Geekhack a little too late for this one it seems. Looks like a really powerful and fun board!

Hey Ishtob, do you have any spare PCBs kicking around? I think I roasted by MCU when resetting the board between flashing. I cannot for the life of me get it to get the default firmware to work any longer (only one or two keys is detected). Definitely an issue with the MCU because everything else checks out.

If you have open sourced the PCB, send me a link and I'll order it from JLCPCB myself.

Alternately is it insane to try and self-solder my own?
