Is there any way we could get them not in 1.25 size, but 1.0? I have a POS kb I'd use it on. I'd order 8.

From the mother thread:

Hi folks!

I got a response from SP that the following SGV-files need to be modified to meet production requirements:

TUXKEY4.svg: feet must be 0.020" away from the body (currently only 0.010") which is 0.25mm instead of the required 0.5mm!

lotus.svg: leaves are too close to each other. The closest distances between them must be 0.5mm.

Can somebody look at that SVG?

I am confused, from the SVG guide it says:

"gaps between lines must be at least 0.5mm"
"all lines must be at least 0.2mm thick"

In the linux key, the white space is what is considered the lines. As a result, the space between the body and feet should follow the "at least 0.2mm thick" rule, which it does.

I did notice in the SVG, that the white part is white, and the background is transparent. In the instructions, it says it says the shapes (lines) should be black and the background transparent. Maybe this caused the confusion?

I'm also confused.

I asked for a clarification...

...

I just looked a bit closer. I found some lines to be around 0.17mm .

Is it possible to make them around 0.35 mm?

I increased the gaps between the feet and the body. Is that where you found the 0.17mm gap?

I also changed the shapes (lines) to black instead of white.

I think itb is OK for the 1.25 units key. But is has to be smaller blown on a 1 units key:

How about these?  I widened the left outline and removed the fine points from the eyes. TuxKey7 has reduced eyeballs in case eyeballs on TuxKey6 are too narrow.

I'm not sure what to do about your comment on the bottom edge. On my system the circle is not cut off. Can you explain the problem in more detail?

In both graphics, the eyes are are wrong and still the visible section is not large enough on the bottom and top and too large at the sides!

If the eyes are any wider, the spacing between the eyes and distance from the side of the head will be greater than 0.5mm.

Did you ever here from SP about if they were mistaken in the spacing? Ie reversing what was a line and what was transparent that results in the spacing requirement being 0.5mm for the gap between the feet and body.

Also, I too don't see the cutoff circle at the bottom.

Yes, this is exactly the problem with increasing size of the eyes. I think I fixed the problem where the ends of the eyes were "too tiny."

Also, I did notice where the sides of the SVG were too wide. I trimmed the document size to fit the circle exactly.  Please check TuxKey8.  Thanks.

But I see it!

I'm quite sure that the original version 4 is OK for the 1.25 units key. But on a 1 units key it will come out smaller!

Can you please take version 4 and make the tux in the circle as large as possible, without changing the relations of the parts of the tux?

Or maybe even a version where the tux sticks out of the circle with his feet and top section of his head.

How about these. I created one that fits in the 1.0 width keys so they have a 9.04x10.84mm page size. And this svg will be used for both keys, unscaled just centered on both.

The 1.0 key (TUX):

The 1.25 key (LINUX):

And the svg is attached.

I'm nerves killing you!

Sorry for that.

I think the version 9 is suitable for dopuble shot, except for the bottom area between the legs. The height must be around 0.5mm (currently only 0.4mm)

All other sections are OK.

You could even make the gape between body and feet a bit closer (0.25mm) when you blow the tux up within the circle, such that it is 0.25mm away from the circle (feet and head).

The only thinbg I don't like are the eyes, I love the version 4 eyes best!

PS: when we finished this, it will be the best tux key ever!

We had this version at the beginning. It sucks, because the tux looks like a ghost!

The only way out without that circle would be to have him on a white key.

I went back to the SVG keycap howto instructions and tried getting all the measurements right. The eyes are hard to get right, because the left eye (from our point of view) is too close to the side of Tux's head. So I gave Tux some goggles so he wouldn't look like one eye was cut off. When shrunk down to the size of a key cap, the problem will be less noticeable.

OK, we are very close to the final solution:

Eyes in yiur version are a bit smaller than those from Fwiffo!

I prefer the larger eyes!

Maybe it is possible to take those and, if necessary, enlarge the head a slight bit, such that dists are 0.5!

I am not going to have any time to do more edits for the next couple of days.

My favorite version is TuxKey9-1, I have played with head size, eye size and tons of other proportions and this I think is the best solution. It looks a little cross-eyed, but I printed this version out at actual size and you don't notice it.

Also, TuxKey4 is my favorite if we are just talking about a 1.25 width key.

In fact we just do an intermediate shipping and continue with the 2nd half of keys right away ...

Here is what I will send to SP now:

There will be a tux on a white key in Round 4. And if you like, the ghost tux as well ...

wuzle.
i like the LINUXGHOST too.  especially if it was in a black circle on a white or yellow key.
i'd get some if available in round 4.

The problem with putting it in a circle is that you have to make the head bigger and the eyes smaller like the current version (7bit's version above). ie, for doubleshots, the key part (black in LINUXGHOST) must be at least 0.5mm, and the doubleshot part (white in LINUXGHOST) must be 0.2mm. So with LINUXGHOST it works out better because you are using the smaller dimension for a lot of the intricate parts of the shape. When you put it in a circle, this is reversed and you lose some of the detail.

Yes, but the Tux looks strange when it has not the correct color. It would be better to put it onto a white key.

Oooh I want a few of those! Also a Tux escape key :D

You know what would be awesome? Keys for popular websites like Phoronix, Slashdot, Reddit, [strike]Facebook[/strike], etc.

Those might make me go back to using a full sized keyboard as a daily driver so I could put those on the F-row and bind them to open the specific websites.

Holy smokes that would ROCK!:dance::roll:

Then again for all I know you guys had that already in group buy 1 or 2 where I did not participate :P
