Space65 is inspired by two great feats of my mind in 1977: Apple II Computer and Voyager 1.

In appearance, I want to design an ancient and modern keyboard.At the same time, it must be very distinctive.

I am a little worried the overall effect is not perfect, so I quickly completed the proofing to test the effect of SPACE 65(Especially the effect of RGB).
But after receiving the sample, I found a very obvious mistake.
Its about logo，I want is the concave effect by laser（reference render）.
Then I got the keyboard，I found its the white mark of laser carving.

However, the overall effect seemed to be good enough...
So，now it deeply troubled me, I am struggling which looks better(about the white mark of laser carving or Depth of carving).
In a few days, I will proofread again,then compare the two effects.

What do you suggest for SPACE65? So hope you could provide it to me, and then we can better finish the design of SPACE 65.

I think depth carving will look better overall. The white interrupts the aesthetic a bit too much, in my opinion. Either way, this is a sweet looking board!Ah, in a few days, I'll go proofing depth carving version, and I will update the photos.

I really like the idea of playing up the golden record theme a bit with a brass plate on the back (I bet black or etched lettering would look sweet if you did that). The wave symbol from the record is killer, and I’d love to see it featured somewhere more visible on the case. Putting it on the bottom instead of inside would probably look cool. Might be interesting to see what it looks like with that printed that and then etching in the space65/gray studio lettering instead of having them in white (or perhaps vice versa).
My opinions may be somewhat biased given that I’m literally wearing a Voyager 1 record hoodie right now.

Given some high profile challenges around some GBs recently, would you mind telling us at some stage a little about your experience running GBs, the QA process, manufacturer, financial ability to cove unexpected events, etc? not needed at this stage of course, but something to consider if this moves towards a GB.
Either OP is really good with rendering and graphic arts or the prototype already exists. The board is shown with referenced Nantucket, Toxic (from China GB), 1965, and Chocaltier keysets. OP already has a GB for HB85 running through Z Frontier so there's that too.
It would be interesting to note what firmware the OP plans for the PCB.

For my preference, I'd like to see plate & pcb that support split space 2.75-1.25-2.25.
I'd also prefer a qmk pcb. I hope there's a way to make those happen. I'd certainly buy!
For your proofing/testing, there is a spelling error on the red name plate. It says SPACC instead of SPACE :D

Yea same! I would prefer not to have side LED. Makes it look like a toy and not a premium board. However I think the name tag looks nice and fits with the overall design quite nicely!

This person was in fact expressing their positive response to your keyboard project. In colloquial English, the word 'sick' can mean something is extremely favourable.

In fact, space65 is strictly the fourth keyboard I designed. Before that, I designed COD67，Obilivion and HB85. (COD67' GB is end in April，HB85 is GBing,OB I need to continue to improve design.)
CNC is finished in my cousin's factory. Anodizing is my own supplier.

I am also a fan of Voyager 1. I also want to copy the brass plate.
But because the bottom area of the keyboard itself is not large enough, if I copy them, I am afraid the line inside will not be obvious.
But I'm still trying this (after CNC, laser radium carving pattern, and then blackening and aging treatment),
I will update the project after the completion of proofing.
As for the white laser radium carving texture, I will try a new scheme to compare it and see which one works better.

I like this a lot. The branding is definitely too prominent for me with the white engravings, but if you can get them to look like the renders I think it would be acceptable. I'm thinking having both an LED indicator and cutout next to each other on the left hand side makes things a little busy and would prefer to see just one or the other.Ah, thank you very much for the space65! Solid color version of the shell, I will complete the proofing as soon as possible. With regard to the indicator light, I would like to send out a form to ask geeks’ advice. Now, caps has a separate lamp, but it doesn't show up.
ISO and splitting space I will update it as soon as possible. For firmware, my partner insists on bootmapper, so I need some time to convince him.

Actually, the inspiration of sidelights comes from the meaning of Voyager 1 to me.
It shines like a lighthouse.
So, although I will produce a version without side lights, but I really hope you like the version with side lights.

But I think the feedback from IC form does not seem to like split spaces very much. But in the end, we still need to see the final vote.

I don't know if the distinction is getting lost in translation, but for extra clarity:
In the IC form you ask about split space, as in spacebar. I did answer 'no' to that because it's not something I'd use, though I would be quite happy for the option to exist so maybe that was a mistake.
Most people are asking for split backspace (in the hhkb style), which is definitely something that should be included and honestly ought to be considered an almost mandatory layout option for custom keyboards.

When talking about this board, the light would simply be in a mirrored position on the opposite side, mitigating the relatively poor position on the Canoe.

The boards I've seen usually allowed both 2.25/1.25/2.75 and 2.75/1.25/2.25. I personally would prefer 2.25/2.75/1.25 :)
Frankly I think it's fine if you choose whatever layout is easier for you to implement.

Hi, everyone.
I'll show a new design of 65% keyboards：SPACE65 ;D.

Space65 is inspired by two great feats of my mind in 1977: Apple II Computer and Voyager 1.

In appearance, I want to design an ancient and modern keyboard.At the same time, it must be very distinctive.

On the top side of space65, I followed the wide sides and the concave design of Apple II`s keyboard (Details on the left and right sides).

I am a little worried the overall effect is not perfect, so I quickly completed the proofing to test the effect of SPACE 65(Especially the effect of RGB).
But after receiving the sample, I found a very obvious mistake.
Its about logo，I want is the concave effect by laser（reference render）.
Then I got the keyboard，I found its the white mark of laser carving.

However, the overall effect seemed to be good enough...
So，now it deeply troubled me, I am struggling which looks better(about the white mark of laser carving or Depth of carving).
In a few days, I will proofread again,then compare the two effects.
Other details：
Case material：Anodized Aluminum 6061
Plate：Carbon fibre.
Angle：5 degrees
PCB：Bootmapper；two RGB LED light bars；Switch LED Position：South
Colors: Black , Silver, Gray, Blue, Red（Up to now）
What do you suggest for SPACE65? So hope you could provide it to me, and then we can better finish the design of SPACE 65.

I think it has 4/4 of those things are on this PCB. I could be wrong but that looks like a USB C footprint. It's got south LEDs. It has a standard layout. SMD LEDs for the top and side cut outs.
I doubt we will see hot swap as that limits the layout which in turn limits the amount of participants. Hot swap hybrid is definitely possible but have yet to see it be done. What I mean by hybrid is hot swap alphas and numbers and layout locked keys: tab, right shift, arrow keys, column 16 (far right column). This gives the majority of the board hot swap ability but still allows for every layout to be done on one PCB and one plate. Just reduces the overall amount of soldering.

Ah，its south facing，but not hot swap.Because if have hotswap, there is no way to make compatible keys.
It is the usb-c interface；smd LED &standard layout all ok.

Any confirmation on the pricing?On page 2, OP states original price around $225 without PayPal and express charges (shipping?). Hopefully it stays around there but I would wager that the hand polished will cost a premium.

I've been a lurker on GH for a long time. I made this account just now only to say this: PLEASE have a pink case for Laser! This case would be an excellent option for me if there could be a pink option which would be ideal for Laser. Similar to that of Laser ALT Dawn. This is a wonderful minimalistic but still very modern design perfect for those who feel that the 60%-66% range is their sweet-spot. The price is not bad either, very reasonable compared to some over the other releases recently and upcoming. Thank you!
