strum4h, ever listened to DJ Spooky's Optometry? It's a way more liberal approach to jazzy sounds, but you might enjoy it.

It's really interesting, what kinds of music the geekhackers are listening to. Currently I'm enjoying a little harder stuff. Don't know why.

As far as I heard, this is pretty popular in the US. Here it isn't but I still like it:

And sometimes I just need this (skip to 0:45, it's where the real music begins. Anything from the beginning until there is just stupid bass without any melody):

Yeah, that's right. It's based on Georg Friedrich Händel's famous Sarabande of the Harpsichord Suite No. 4. Here is the original (the Sarabande begins at 4:24, but this time the beginning is worth listening too. And the Gigue at the end is just incredible!):

By the way, the other Harpsichord Suites by Händel are fantastic too:

Yeah, I know. My musical preferences are a little strange. But hey, I like all of this!

RC

p.s. Hm, now I'm into classical again... well... time for some Beethoven!

While it was the Chordettes who first came out with Mr. Sandman, their version of Lollipop, it turns out, was a cover version - although this is little realized because the original performers were obscure. Their failure to make a success of it, however, was due to the unfortunate nature of the times:

And, speaking of following things to their sources,

what better highway for a minivan than the Autobahn?

When I listened to this song

by a modern artist recently in the news for dumping her even more famous boyfriend, I thought at first it was a cover of

And here's an interesting cover version done by a famous popular singer at a later point in her career:

If you're not familiar with this performer's oeuvre, here's one of her hits from the peak of her career -

Oh, and here's something much more obscure that may actually be worth sharing:

I don't know about "creepy", and maybe a small girl can hit high notes more naturally... but O Mio Babbino Caro is the song that wrecked Maria Callas' voice. So I am... disturbed... but "creepy" is perhaps not the right word.

Oh, here's some more Janet Seidel:

The gentleman with her just happens to be named Tom Baker. There are videos of the Tom Baker singing on YouTube, but I forebear to inflict them on you.

But if you don't know which Tom Baker I'm thinking of, here's the nice music that introduces the TV show for which he was most famous:

Oh, and here's this cute piano performance...

Instead, I'll inflict this:

But instead of being silly, here's some real music, at the risk of presenting something I've shown here before:

Here's another nice version

and another song by Enya - from a movie soundtrack - performed by them:

Oh, and here's some John Williams:

Here, it's noted that they prepend the 20th Century Fox fanfare to the music... but they didn't mention that even before that, they played the THX intro...

and something else different:

Of course, if I'm going to go with music from space movies, why not go to a real space movie, even at the risk of the ultimate cliche:

And here's another nice version,

Yes the newer dubstep tracks are horrific and I to enjoy the older more grime influenced tracks over them, but that doesn't mean that the 'new wave' of dubstep isn't actually dubstep.

Probably one of the only decent sounding 'new' dubstep tracks.

Signal to noise in dubstep seems to be much lower than other genres.  I really love maybe 5% of what I've heard, and hate the rest.

Wait a microsecond... the description for that one says "This particuliar mix was released on Sire Records in 1988 and remixed by Emilio Pasquez aka Pascal Gabriel." Could that be the same Pascal Gabriel who also worked on the debuts of Ladyhawke and Marina and the Diamonds? That would explain a lot. On the latter, I couldn't shake the feeling that whoever came up with the arrangements loved his Alice (Italian singer) records... as does yours truly.

Here's a band I got into lately:

(I could only find the music vid squashed to 16:9, so here's a version without moving images.)
My music collection normally isn't heavy on west coast bands at all (and if so, Portland, OR would be more likely than LA), but this one is an exception.
