GitHub has been contacted about the icons and logo appearing on the keys. However it appears that the novelties kit is gone from the group buy.

... doesnt give you free reign to mimic it, the fact is, he is in breach of our community unregistered design rights ...
... You picked 4 colors out of a ring of 150, no?  Would you take all the paint at the paint store as well, because, hey, it's your design?  This seems petty, and a little immature ...

Pretty much this.

Really, start a pissing match just because the color scheme is similar ?

no, but ill start a pissing match because someone has copied my original IP and run around the internet talking about how they designed it, as well as using copyright protected images that it explicitly says they cant use or even change the colour of if they even had permission

what it comes down to, is we are a small community and things tend to be done on a level of respect, or with a wink  and a handshake, with the understanding that although we may not legally protect ourselves, we dont just rip each other off, huge amounts of time and money goes in to this stuff

Respect goes both ways. I would take it up with the person themselves in private instead of derailing someones thread.

Hmm. I had no idea this set was causing so much controversy over here. I have been pining for a legended DSA set suitable for my home dox for months now and this set looked like just the thing (especially with these colors). Too bad about the github key - I would have really liked one of those. If the gb fails I guess I will have to wait for another legended DSA set to come around.

"...but the hyperfuse set just isn't readily available anymore..."

this happening, legitimately hurts [CTRL]ALTS future plans, we are about to launch hyperfuse with gmk as well as having plans to do another round of hyperfuse with sp shortly...

Yeah but was this announced previously? Seems as though it was made as a type of tribute since they weren't being made anymore.

well, plenty of poeple have been aware im rerunning hyperfuse for a long time, basically anybody who has contacted me about it i let know it was coming again soon, it was also officially announced prior to this thread, also i dont feel i should have to announce my work just so somebody else wont rip it off, as stated before, this community is based on trust and respect, and as this person showed zero respect, he shouldnt be trusted

at no point did he contact me to ask about purchasing hyperfuse, rerunning hyperfuse or using our design

You're taking this awfully personal.

Ever heard the phrase: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

I bought this.
I own multiple sets of granite.
I own Hyperfuse.
I'm buying every DSA cause I like them, and I like having different color combinations.
IMO there should be MORE similar keysets to make mixing and matching easier,
leaving us with more pretty, diverse, and personal keyboards.

This should be right up some people's alley here ( ;))Interest check for a set that's a "variant of Decked Out"

A mixture of Hyperfuse, Raindrop, Dolch, and Decked Out.

That's not the geekhack way!  You have to be butthurt about le reddit because it only make sense to get upset over nothing, especially over something like a keyset in a niche hobby like mechanical keyboards.

I think some people have a right to take things seriously when they invest 10's of thousands of dollars and countless hours of their time to run their own group buys versus just simply picking some cute colors and submitting mockups to signature plastics to run.

When you invest 10's of thousands of $$$ you are running a business and not a hobby/passion (nobody is a saint, and does that for non profit, be it financial or other type, yes even fame is profit), in that case copyright your effen work, protect it, don't expect others not to use when there is no legal obligation not to do it.
Anyway I'm only ******** on others work so I'm a neglectable quantity that will be forgotten soon, so what do I care.

I'm sorry that the guy running this GB raised the MOQ  when he was so close to have a successful GB, too bad, now his chances are smaller... Wish him luck :thumb:

And one more thing, even if they don't invest shed loads of money people still work hard for designs, there were more than just a few sets which involved a lot of hard work and time spent for an original design and for no profit more than a free set.... Running a GB on PMK is not just picking colors, and if we are at picking colors I could name 3 famous sets outside PMK that are just colorways of the same set plus some novelty keys.
If a colorway becomes a patent then it is a sad world.....with this attitude we should not have any Dolch, Olivette and so on....

Just a caveat : I'm not finger pointing nobody here....

Granite is hard work but when (not Decked Out case) someone just mix 2 colors and don't even know what a Tsangan set is...

But that is why the more experienced people are here, to teach them and help them to improve the design. One example is the Green Tea set that now evolved to an amazing set, just 2 colors mixed but what colors  :thumb: This is the role of a community.

For ****ty designs there is natural selection, it works so good there is no need to worry about them, just having a look at the PMK site proves that natural selection works without any effort.
But, if you have marketing skills ..... in that case you can induce mass hysteria and sell anything and get the seal of aproval of the masses as ultimate master, people will not even notice that they buy the same thing over and over again but in different shades

Too many GBs running at the same time means less GBs tipping even the good ones.

Idk. Literally every set that is a doubleshot inverse set [mods one color, alphas other, and legends inverted] is uncreative.
Does that mean they look bad? No, not at all.
Off the top of my head, Raindrop, Toxic,  and Miami all done by Bunny.
Green Tea was just mentioned as well.
And I thought of Nostalgia while typing this.
Nearly any two colors would look good in this way.
It's simply capturing the mood of the keyboard market.
I believe timing with other GBs plays less of a role than people think.

I personally won't be ordering a set, as I'm saving up for the GMK HyperFuse set, but the entire point of PMK seems to be to facilitate that type of buy, removing the vast majority of the difficulties that previous group buys may have experienced. This doesn't take away from the quality and reputation that CTRLALT's buys seem to be known for though.

They certainly have a right to take it seriously, but to bring it to a point of IP legality seems a bit much. It's obvious that the set is heavily influenced by HyperFuse, but has enough variation as far as coloring and typesetting to be a derivative and not purely a clone.

Strong words (or actions) for someone with only one post.

I though having two accounts was forbidden by ToS?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
