:O so clear switches have even heavier spring? I thought they have 65g peak force?
Korean springs are measured at bottom out force while Cherry springs are measured at actuation. There's a thread about this somewhere but I can never remember the name.

Basically a 60g-ish korean spring = same as springs in blues, reds, browns. If there were a 100g korean spring then it'd be about the same as a clear spring. Clears are 55g and greens are 80g so you'd be looking at a korean spring that's quite a lot over 100g (which doesn't exist).

So the clear switches actually have a bottom out force same as green switches (100g I think)?

No. They felt different to me when I tried them recently.

No.

Clear springs : Actuation = 55g, bottom out = around 100g.
Green springs : Actuation = 80g, bottom out = I don't know exactly but I know it'll be higher than 100g.

The bottom out force on Clears is supposedly really heavy. I forgot how heavy, the DT wiki or Cherry should have it. I'd recommend you just wait until the tour comes or getting your hands on some springs and testing them for yourself.

I would be looking forward to the tour! But the ergodox groupbuy has but 5 days left, so I need to decide around now :S

What would happen if you put green springs in clears witches?

And does anyone know if SmallFry is ever coming back? It's not the same around here without him. ;(

It's not like you'll be getting the parts anytime soon...does the buy even have those switches available? You can always order a switch you do like and then find other switches later. You have to assemble it anyways so I don't understand the rush.

1) What would happen if you put green springs in clears witches?

2) And does anyone know if SmallFry is ever coming back? It's not the same around here without him. ;(

1) Try it? I can test this when I get Clear springs. Should be coming soon.
2) I tried contacting him but he hasn't gotten back to me.

You'd get greys!

Greens = blues with 80g spring
Greys = clears with 80g spring
Dark greys  = reds/blacks with 80g spring

Hmm.. I will just wait until next round I think, need to get to know about more switches before my decision.

Can you? Yes. Should you? I don't know. It's a personal preference thing. You can read my thoughts on them if you look in my signature. I'm pretty sure the imsto caps have the proper supports underneath it. I don't know about other Thick PBT caps.

FWIW, I didn't use o-rings on my boards. I had soft-landing pads on my Leopold that I've since removed.

Are those landing pads reusable? Are they sticky? I haven't handled any yet.

Yes they're reusable. They're not sticky. I had a set in my Leopold for 5 months and they held up fine. Soft like the 40A o-rings but with less travel reduction.

I don't know why I had it in my mind that they were like a cross between switch stickers and o-rings. ;)

Thanks for the info!

There is no such thing as "PCB Mounted" Costar stabilizers. All Costar stabilizers attach to the plate.

Cherry "Plate Mounted" stabilizers are parts: G99-0224 (1x2, 1x2.25, 1x2.75), G99-0379 (1x7), and G99-0226 (1x8, 1x9, 1x10).

These Cherry part numbers are "without frame," and I'm not sure if that means "PCB Mounted" or what: G99-0742 (1x2, 1x2.25, 1x2.75), G99-0745 (1x7), and G99-0744 (1x8, 1x9, 1x10).

This is the link from Cherry: http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/switches/key/mx.htm

Could anyone point me to a discussion on various Korean springs, please?  I'm looking for some differences/similarities between various 55g springs on this image Jocelyn posted

There are 3 different 55g springs.  And also 2 different 62g springs (which ones does Originative stock  Are the Originative 45g springs 45g or 45(50)g?)  Thanks!

No other discussion for those? That's surprising, considering how many people use these springs for various mods.  I'll PM Sherry about that thread though.

Not sure if there is one. There was a bit of a discussion in my review thread but I've never seen an active thread talking about Korean/Custom springs. There was a rumor that the Originative springs were ordered special for Sherry and that the weights were different from the ones you posted. But I cannot confirm or deny that. I too want Sherry to replace his thread about spring weights. I do know that the number of coils affects how the spring feels. But I haven't had the chance to play with enough springs to properly weigh in with my opinion.

....this was not a Simple Answer lmao.

Thank you, JD and CPT!  Found that one.  Just wish there were more detail on 55g spring differences.  And how the number of coils affects the rebound time, if at all.

Try it in a few different switch housing bottoms.  I noticed that my Clears sometimes get more tactile or less tactile depending on the stem and housing combination.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Why do people flip their space bars around?

example:

Some find the normal 'edge' too sharp....you should try it....it's interesting ;)

For the record I've only flipped my space bar in two unique instances, on my FC660C I had just to try it that way, and when using DSA retro caps and a imsto thick pbt spacebar, that actually worked really well.

Why do people flip their space bars around?

example:

Some people can't be like Samuel Jackson and Bruce Willis all the time (by that I mean a bad-a**) and their thumbs start to hurt from hitting the space bar.  They say that flipping it makes it not hurt.  I've never had any issues with it, but some people say it cuts into their thumbs and flipping it stops that from happening.

Custom plate allows you to remove the top of the switches. This allows you to swap the springs & stems or lube the switch. On a stock plate you'd need to desolder the switch/es every time you want to swap anything.

Many of the custom plates people use let you do things like pop the switch tops without desoldering.  It allows you more freedom to play and experiment and fine tune your switches without having to use PCB mounted.

Custom plates are often heavier than the stock plates so the keyboard feels heavier and more solid overall. You can also change the layout from the standard. For example, my keyboard is currently 1.25x ANSI but with a custom plate, I could get like HHKB or 1.5x ANSI for example.

Edit: Photekq and nubbinator got that AWP out. So much sniping haha
