2. Structural mid-piece – creates a nice floating feel
why?whole else happy to see a r3 happen?
nah
Excited! Hope the esd protection for the side LEDs is improved. Mine on r2 died.
Loving how space 65 is evolving and iterating over time. Now, when is Potter going to do a Space 75? 75% needs some love from Potter.
A 45% Would be awesome, just saying.Loving how space 65 is evolving and iterating over time. Now, when is Potter going to do a Space 75? 75% needs some love from Potter.
Not sure about 75%, thank you so much for the kind words for Space65 iterations!

Did you try soldering on the spare ones potter put in package?
A full view of the keyboard would be appreciated. Less of an IC and more of a teaser.
Hotswap option?Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/MHypyee.jpg)
curious how many would want a hotswap option?
I am a huge fan of space 65 and own both r1 and 2. So this gets me excited. Since it is a screwless design I would highly suggest to remove the screw engravings on the weight.

I don't think hotswap is that important, at least to me. Specially with the chip shortage, if you manage to go hotswap is just a nice plus
Screwless design but there’s a CNC’d slotted-head screw on the weight on the bottom. What’s the point?
I have skimmed through the thread I am not sure if this has been asked before, but here we go: would a hotswap PCB from R3 fit into a R1 or R2 case? You can see the build video, the pcb has change quite a bit. The side LEDs are now on the main pcb, not on a separate vertical board. While that might still work. the usb port is also different. It now connects to a daughter board unlike previous run. I guess you might be able to jam the daughter board into the USB hole of the R2 with hot glue or something and have it work but its clearly not intended to be compatible.
My biggest problem with the space 65 design is the fact that it only had leds on the left side. Will the r3 have an led on both sides this time?100. Would gladly pay extra if this happens.

There is no weight measuring in the video, it looks too light to me. It looks alright but it's probably going to be like $400 for international? That's a bit much. If it's in $350 ish I might get one. This looks like to be same price as something like Mr.Suit from OwLab but doesnt look that nice, OwLab Spring is cheaper than this for example. They have lots of fans so I dont think they have a problem selling this either way.
is this GB live yet?
HOT SWAP YASSSSSSS When will the GB open?never :(
Really looking forward to R3's international group buy. Is there any chance of the mid pieces being sold separately? Deep Ocean is beautiful, but the wine red mid plate limits what you can put on the board in my opinion.I don't think that potter will do that since it would decrease the amount of work, stress and increase shipping time. The Space will for sure get ordered a lot I would even say in the high 4 digit to 5 digit area. By dont having the option to select the mid part he can fullfill this GB faster. You can easily order 2 boards swap one midpart out and just sell it. There will be ppl who'll still miss the GB and would happily take it from you even for a small 30% increase in reatail price.
Just received email notification that international GB will resume shipping after Chinese new year =) Can't wait!Fake news since international GB hasnt even started yet. You mean the international GB for Apollo, but R3 hasnt been in the GB phase
I'd really like to have a solder option available. I've had too many HS pads pop off on me, and I genuinely enjoy the security that a soldered joint provides.easy way to prevent it from happening is to support the socket with ur finger when pressing the switch in if you do that the socket will never pop btw hotswap is just an option doesnt mean that it is the only option
Plus Solder PCBs let you decide if you want split spacebars, split backspace, and other minor changes that HS PCBs can't.

Translucent PCB (possibility for hotswap option) - anyone wants hotswap?
Count me in!
But the screwless design seems pointless to me.
Nothing like having everything securely fastened with screws, as opposed to all sorts of plastic clips and edges that can break.
Looking forward to the GB

+1 for hotswap, I skipped the first 2 rounds because they were solder-only lolimagione missing out on amazing boards because you didnt want to spend 10minutes into learning a usefull and easy skill like soldering. It isnt hard at all.

As people mentioned above already, but I want to elaborate more on this point as person only using hotswap boards till recently:+1 for hotswap, I skipped the first 2 rounds because they were solder-only lolimagione missing out on amazing boards because you didnt want to spend 10minutes into learning a usefull and easy skill like soldering. 1. Most people build the board and probably wont touch anymore for a long time.As people mentioned above already, but I want to elaborate more on this point as person only using hotswap boards till recently:+1 for hotswap, I skipped the first 2 rounds because they were solder-only lolimagione missing out on amazing boards because you didnt want to spend 10minutes into learning a usefull and easy skill like soldering. 1. Budget: I plan to have 2-3 soldered keebs maximum, and the rest are hotswaps because I want to play around with switches. So I can just ask for a solder service for 2-3 times and still cheaper than spending money on all the tools (ofc I'm not using cheap tools on my 500$ keyboard lmao). Unless you buy like 10+ solder kits then yes, soldering by yourself should be more economical. But I (and many ppl) just want a few amount of keyboards, and the investment for soldering tools is just not worth.
2. Safety: What would you prefer, having a 500$ keyboard soldered by you after watching a 30-min video on how to soldering, or by a pro that solder hundreds of kits? I know solder is easy to learn, but there is a different between be able to solder vs be able to solder well. Even with customer service, they sometimes make mistakes too. I'm not even talking about buying a kit with desoldered pcb where the solder skill is even more important. With hotswap I just need to plug and play without worrying anything.
3. Convenience: Guess I don't need to say the advantages of hotswap over non-hotswap. And yes millmaxed is a thing, but then we will getting back to point 1 and 2, also switch compatibility is not that good.
In addition, I think lubing is the only skill worth learning when u join this hobby for everyone, from newbie to hobbyist. Cheaper tools, no electricity danger so no harm at all (unless you want to eat lube lol), no long-term consequences if u doing bad (just clean the overlubed switches). Soldering should be learned only when u really love the process to build the keyboard from scratch. For me, the building steps are just waste of time honestly, the thing I enjoy is the typing experience and keyboard itself. So yeah I just spend some bucks and let the pro do their job while I enjoy their product.
As already mentioned, Milmax sockets are expensive and hard to install. Now why does it have to be one or the other? Can't the GB have both hot-swap and solder PCBs?who are you reffering to? most likely not botty since he is only telling us that learning soldering isnt hard and that there is always a option to millmax it and therefore making the decision to miss out on GB's because they dont offer HS a bad one
I plan to add 0305 Milmax sockets to a Space80 PCB, but I really do not look forward to the experience, not to mention that each single (and you need two) 0305 Milmax is 5 Euro-cents more expensive than a Kailh hotswap socket.
5. Translucent PCB (possibility for hotswap option) - anyone wants hotswap?
Yesssssss!
I have several Kailh hot-swap KBs, sadly only one with 5 pin support. Just saying that after soldering several boards, Milmaxing a Space65 R2 board and making preparations to Milmax a Space80 board I really wish GBs would come with a hot-swap option as it is both cheaper and easier to install, not to mention that the switches are left intact and can be reused. If you want big Enter or some split bottom row that either requires rotated sockets or a solder PCB, sure, go for the solder PCB. All I am asking is to leave the hot-swap PCB option open.As already mentioned, Milmax sockets are expensive and hard to install. Now why does it have to be one or the other? Looking through the Discord, it looks like E-yellow wasn't an option for the China GB.Then wait for a extremly unlikely R4 or get R2 aftermarket since this is probably the last run of this board
Well, my piece of feedback is going to be:
Please bring back the E-Yellow.
The prior runs looked absolutely stunning in that colorway, and it's a shame to see it not returning.
Is there a date for this GB yet? Got into the hobby too late to get either of the previous rounds and super excited to be a part of R3!soldering takes like 2s per switch and you dont have time for that? Better dont join GBs then
I also cast a vote for a hotswap pcb as it’s just much more practical for me due to having very little time to do things like soldering a board (any solderable boards I have remain unbuilt for that main reason).

or you can stop moaning about things that have no influence on you. dude is ok with hotswap and hotswap is being offered, what even is your problem?

That's a big understatement. How much time does it take to completely finish soldering a board?
You need to prep, clear the desk, set up the board, solder it, then test each switch then put the whole thing together again, pack up all equipment. Thats assuming it's all working, if it doesn't work you're desoldering.
With hotswap, the preping is halved. You don't need to get out the soldering tools.
You're probably going to say ... yeah I have my soldering tools ready so I don't need to prep.
That's cool. But there are people with families, dogs, cats, kids ... and you wouldn't want soldering tools lying around.
... hence Hotswap.
soldering take like 45minutes while hs take around 20 minutes. I assumed that if someone is too bussy to take like 30min more for a build he wont be able to wait several months for a board which lead to me telling him not to join GB'sIs there a date for this GB yet? Yeah it's like the conservatives that claim gay marriage affects their straight marriage, or vegetarians that want Mcdonalds to offer vegetarian food even though they'll never show up to Mcdonalds.
If they offer hotswap, why stop it when it doesn't affect those that don't want hotswap?
you will never get my "attempt" to shame him for going the hs route, since it never was my intention to do so and soldering doesnt need some jedi like power to do so.Is there a date for this GB yet? I don't understand your attempt at shaming those who don't want to wield a soldering iron like a trained Jedi with a light saber. The hobby is about keyboards, not a soldering club. Pick your flavor of pcb and let others do the same. Let's enjoy the keyboard, not the headache inducing smell of lead in the air yeah?

building a solder board only takes like 20-30 minutes more compared to hs.
Since he said that he has a lot of solder boards laying around unbuild, I assumed that he is a very imaptient person, which lead to me telling him not to join GB's since they always tend to take longer than what the manufacturer/brand estimates.
I assumed stuff based on his information and tried to prevent him from getting stressed/annoyed by delays which comes with GB's.
I admit that I should have chosen my words better to prevent confusion and maybe explained why I said what I said.
Now back to my original question of is there a tentative expected date for when this GB will begin??? Just want to make sure I don’t miss the chance to buy it this time. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows and answers!its best to join the mentioned discord server. You might take a few hours or minuted to get the hang out of it if you have no experience with the application but its basically a tool we use to communicate with each other and maybe get updates from the designer himself.

if you decide to join the server its best to assume that your question probably already has been asked several times and should maybe do a little research on the server before asking stuff. Most info can be found using the search tool (search for keywords) or looking through several chanels.
If you log in every now and then you most likely wont miss the news. I recommend checking in everyday and look at the news chanel of the server to see if there is any updates, to be on the save side.
Be nice and people will return the kindness/will help you and if something comes of as rude they most likely dont mean it and may be a result of their bad choose of words. There are rarely any people here with bad intentions it's just a combination of misinterpretation of people intention and them not beeing able to write out what they try to convey
Again I recommend you checking out the discord linked in the post and good luck with your business
PCB r3 won’t be compatible with an R2 case. They have completely redesign the interior. It’s not a top mount anymore but a gasket mount with a daughter board

Wasn't R2's "terminal" color scheme essentially all black? One might have to get a few parts added on, but pretty sure an all-black scheme could have been made in R2. I have both a rear badge and LED badge in black ano for my Robocop board.

Looking at the thread for the Cybervoyager, the closest would be the black gold colorway and then change the LED badge and the Aluminum Badge both to black. This would have only added $30 to the total. So definitely configurable for all black, and I wouldn't doubt if it was possible for R3.
Really hoping for iso hotswap, especially on such a well known board, but I assume this will be another fixed ANSI layout
I would love to see a bluetooth PCB that would be compatible with R2 :)

I'd prefer to have a solderable PCB, or at least have hotswap just be an option. Would be great if there was any ISO support at all.
Am I too late for this IC ?Nope, the group buy has not started yet. There is no certain date yet, but it is thought (at least from what I've seen in the graystudio discord) the group buy might start in the first or second week of April.

Is the design final? would prefer it to not have fake screw design on the under side also.
Anyone know why the Space65 r3 is on sale? I feel like the first time I looked it was the full $459 for Soya but now it's $405. Is the GB not going well? Anyone have any detail? I was on the verge of buying the Soya version but then I thought I'd pose the question before I pull the trigger.

It's the price for the whole duration of the GB. The not-on-sale price is for the extras (or at least that's how it was with their previous boards).
So hot! Any R4 in future?
